The main venue: BOZAR

HENRY LE BOEUF HALLConsidered as one of the top five music halls in the world thanks to its acoustic qualities, the Henry le Boeuf Hall was fully restored in the year 2000. For the first time at Nuits sonores Brussels 2018, the room was used ‘upside-down’ : with djs in the seats & audience on stage.

Center for Fine Arts Brussels Immense but almost invisible, overlooking the city but built into the ground, complex but coherent, prestigious but open to all… These were the contra-dictions that Victor Horta had to address when he dreamt up Europe’s first ever palace of culture: the Center for Fine Arts in Brussels.

His ambitious architectural project presented many challenges: urbanistic, an attempt to connect the upper and lower sectors of the city; architectural, the creation of a building that responded to the needs of different disciplines yet that remained architecturally coherent; artistic, a home for all forms of art, of the highest quality and in the best conditions; cultural, making art accessible to as many people as possible – no elitism, no concessions.

M HALLM Hall can host up to 480 spectators for chamber music concerts, in a comfortable setting that creates an intimate and high quality sonic expe-rience.

TERARKEN ROOMThis hall is one of the best-preserved features of the BOZAR complex. Equipped with white walls and flooring, it is the venue’s most versatile and minimalist hall and boasts a capacity of 700 people. Perfect for an intimate dancefloor expe-rience.

STUDIO Opened in 1928, Studio underwent extensive renovations in the 1980s. With viewer positions calculated down to the last inch, this is the perfect arena for a sit-down concert.

Afterparty Thursday 3 October 2019 / C12

Opening Thursday 3 October 2019 / BOZAR

OR:LA (Hotflush Recordings-Deep Sea Frequency / Liverpool-England) Dj setPart of a new wave of DJs in England, Or:la has breathed fresh life into Liverpool’s electronic scene. As both the organiser of the Meine Nacht nights on Merseyside and the co-founder of the Deep Sea Frequency label (her 2017 two-track Kyoto Dance was its debut release), to say that Orlagh Dooley has more than one string to her bow would be an understatement. Drawing from an immensely broad musical spectrum taking in UK bass, tribal house, deep, breakbeat, acid and 90s techno, in addition to an impressive range of technical skills, Or:la became an omnipresent fixture in 2018 and is set to remain one in 2019.

To open Nuits sonores & European Lab Brus-sels, the team will offer a small teasing of what’s to come & what will make the next days so special: conferences, screenings, dj sets in different BOZAR spaces. Full line-up announcement to come.

European Lab BrusselsFounded in 2011 with the support of the European Union, the European Lab Forum aims to assist, mo-nitor and promote the evolutions of the cultural and creative sector in France and Europe that are being fuelled by the digital transformation, the new economy of the creative industries and the media, the re-newal of public policies, the emergence of young generations, the promotion of urban cultures, and the independence of artists and cultural enterprises.

Through a programme of conferences, debates, documentary screenings and presentations highlighting citizen initiatives, inspiring projects and hybrid innovations, each forum serves to shed light on the major political, economic, social and urban developments of our times by inviting a new generation of thinkers and citizens to join the debate.

BOZAR Takeover / Friday 4 October 2019 Henry Le Bœuf Hall

CHRIS FERREIRA (Deep In House / Brussels- Belgium)Chris Ferreira is so much more than a resident at C12 and Deep In House. A musicologist, sound engineer, record collector and (of course) DJ, his exploratory approach to music knows no bounds. Equally inspired by ambient, jazz, deep house and synth-pop, as well as any other expe-rimental genre you might name, Chris Ferreira is not a man who cares for labels. Instead, all that this virtuoso artist really cares about is dedica-ting his life to sharing the music he loves.

PAULA TEMPLE (R&S - Noise Manifesto / Berlin - Germany) Hybrid liveAs a self-confessed noisician living in Berlin, she specialises in a noisy, phantasmagoric techno sound, where the dial is rarely turned below 200% and every moment of silence seems deafening. Ne-ver one to shy away from her political convictions, she wrote the Noise Manifesto in 2012, a clear sta-tement challenging the oppressive norms of society and the music industry, from which Noise Manifesto operates as a platform to support likeminded artists and collaborations.

OCTAVE ONE (Tresor / Detroit - USA) LiveOctave One is an American techno group made up of Lenny and Lawrence Burden, and sometimes accompanied by their three other brothers, Lorne, Lynell and Lance. In the early 1990s, they created the label 430 West, which is at the origin of the second wave of Detroit tech-no. Mainly known for their techno pieces, the Burden brothers have also produced numerous deep house and garage records under pseudo-nyms such as Random Noise Generation, Metro D (with Terrell Langston) and Never On Sunday.

ONIPA (Mawimbi & Wormfood / London-England) LiveONIPA means ‘human’ in Akan, the ancient language of the Ashanti people of Ghana. It’s a message of connection through collaboration: from Ghana to London, Onipa brings energy, groove, electronics, afrofuturism, dance and fire!

GLITTER ٥٥ (Rinse / Paris-France) Dj setBorn in Rabat, Morocco, Glitter٥٥ arrived in Lille, with her Chaabi roots and honed electronic selections. These days she lives in Paris and her sound is a mix of her North-African influences, ethereal techno and cosmic disco, in particular during her residencies at Rinse France.

JAZAR CREW (Haifa) Dj setJazar Crew is a cultural and artistic collective of activists based in Haifa and active in Galilee, Ramallah, Jerusalem, Jaffa and Europe. Formed by a group of Palestinians set on building an underground scene in their country, Jazar evolves through music, art and culture, and educational activities. Resumed by their motto «There’s a life underground», the collective counts amongst its most recent displays of prowess the first Boiler Room in Ramallah in June 2018. It also features in the documentary «Palestine Underground» produced by Boiler Room and recently released.

BOZAR Takeover / Friday 4 October 2019 Studio

ZULI (UIQ / Cairo-Egypt) Live

A Z E R T Y KLAVIERWERKE (Brussels- Belgium) LiveBrussels composer and producer A z e r t y klavierwerke gives us an insight in how and why he senses a collective melancholy in our constructed human world, using sounds of syn-ths, samples, MIDI and piano to create a music that is equal parts raw, smooth & disruptive.

→ Friday 4 October: 20.00—04.004 stages in BOZAR / €15

M HallDASHA RUSH: TERRITOIRES EPHEMERES (Raster Noton / Berlin-Germany) LiveDasha Rush is known to push the boundaries, whether from dark & atmospheric techno or from contemporary art. With her new trans-disciplinary piece, ‘Les Territoires Ephemeres’ (The Ephemeral Territories), she unifies various artistic platforms, such as audio-visual art, dance, real-time genera-tive visuals, electronic music and abstract poetry with theatrical elements into one ephemeral in-teraction. Rush’ work has a dreamy, ambient cha-racter and is mostly focused away from the dance floor; sometimes even from the music itself.

ANDY STOTT (Modern Love / Manchester - London) LiveWho still actually dares to produce dub music in 2019?! Andy. Stott. The genius. Mixed with noise techno, IDM and experimental ambient, this Manchester producer’s sound is like no dub you’ve ever heard. But the sub-bass samples and traditional rhythms serve as a constant reminder of his music’s roots. For over 10 years, Andy has taken us on a sonic journey, with five albums that are as phantasmagoric as they are pleasing on the ears.

BJARKI (Tрип / Island) LiveWhen DJ Deeon expressed his displeasure at Bjarki’s use of a sample of his track “2 B Free” in his hit “I Wanna Go Bang”, the young Icelander willingly signed over 100% of the royalties. Proof, if ever it was needed, of this young artist’s romanticism, a pure love for music production and the party spirit. Now 28 years of age, Bjarki has become a veritable UFO: impossible to pin down and as gifted as he is mysterious. He continues to tear up the rulebook, and chooses a path that belongs to him alone.

LEON VYNEHALL (Running Back - Aus - 3024 / Brighton-England) Dj set

MONO JUNK (Dum Records / Turku-Finland) Dj setReal underground veteran, Mono Junk has produced some of the first techno & electro tracks in Finland, inspired early by Derrick May & Juan Atkins. Founder of Dum Records, his music can be described as raw, analogue, minimal, dark & icy - probably under the influence of his Finland environment.

LOTIC: ENDLESS POWER (Tri-Angle / Berlin- Germany) Live a/vLotic aka Kerian Morgan is profoundly enigma-tic. Anticonformist, multifaceted, genderfluid, she created her own aesthetic movement, and will present her new audiovisual performance Endless Power (in collaboration with video artist Emmanuel Biard) for the first time in Brussels.

AZF (Rinse France / Paris-France) Dj setIf there’s only space in your brain to recall one name on the French industrial techno scene in the last few years, make sure that it contains the following three letters: A-Z-F. It’s almost impossible to gauge the level of excitement surrounding Audrey Carcassonne, such is the international acclaim that has come her way since the last 24 months. Veritable musical icon, artistic director of Jeudi Minuit at Java, high priestess of the Qui Embrouille Qui events, radio resident on Rinse France, peerless DJ… the list goes on. It’s easy to see why so many people around the world have fallen under the spell of this prodigiously ta-lented artist. Full line-up announcement to come.

LAURENT GARNIER (F Communications / Lour-marin-France) Dj setDoes he really need an introduction? After 30 irrepressible years, Laurent Garnier continues to deliver music to the world with unbridled energy. But while he may have become a land-mark on the electronic music landscape, he is also a chameleon who changes shape with eve-ry new season and possesses an insatiable pas-sion for innovation. What will Laurent Garnier have up his sleeve for us this time?

PRINCE OFF (Leftorium / Brussels-Belgium) Dj setPrince Off aka Pierre Pevée is one of the es-sential cornerstones of the Brussels nightlife. Behind the third place LaVallée, he also created the legendary P3P nights & Leftorium events. More than that, Prince Off is an expert in exhili-rating dj sets.

Creativity, quality, and artistic diversity have been at the heart of the Centre’s mission since its foundation. But for art not to be something abstract and distant, for it to be truly part of the “culture” of a society – and particularly in a city as variegated and international as Brus-sels – the public must be able to experience it in a way that is both natural and lively. Art and people must find and recognise each other, must interact with and enrich each other. For the greater happiness of all.

Our commitment, accordingly, is not only to the provision of a range of artistic activities, but also to achieving a “total experience”. Whether with friends, as a family, alone, as a couple, in a group, or with a class, whether young or old, fans of video or of string quar-tets, you are all invited to feel, to breathe, to view and to check out the atmosphere of the Centre for Fine Arts. To let yourselves be se-duced by the strange beauty of a building that is at once imposing and intimate. To appre-ciate, day after day, the remarkable quality of the events programmed here. To discover that, when it comes to art, “total experiences” are the most intense and the most precious, that they cannot be repeated, that they represent, each time, a unique experience.

BOZAR Arty FartyEstablished in 1999, Arty Farty is a not-for-pro-fit association, governed by the 1901 French Association Law. 100% European and 100% independent, Arty Farty places itself at the service of young people, innovative cultures, democratic renewal and the general interest.

Socially engaged and active, Arty Farty is a melting pot for ideas, debates and artistic initiatives, locally and on both a European and international level. It champions the renewal of public strategy in the fields of culture, en-trepreneurship and democratic practices. Arty Farty campaigns for a greater understanding of the role that can be played by cultural, artistic and creative vision in redefining Euro-pean integration and bridging today’s social, territorial and generational divides.

In 2017, Arty Farty creates the non-profit orga-nization Arty Farty Brussels, a strong symbol of its desire and willingness to join the Euro-pean landscape and create bridges between Lyon and Brussels in the long term.
