Toronto’s annual all-night celebration of contemporary art is just around the corner; next Saturday will mark the 9th edition of Nuit BlancheToronto since its inauguration in 2006. This year’s event will feature four curated exhibitions with art projects commissioned by the City ofToronto and over 80 independent projects from Toronto's diverse art community. Four women make up the 2014 curatorial team, each of whomhas planned an exhibition specific to a location in the city: The Possibility of Everything, The Night Circus, Before Daybreak, and PerformanceAnxiety. With such an abundance of exciting options spread over different neighborhoods, it can be difficult to choose where to go and what tosee. Here are ADONE’s top picks from the four exhibitions:
THE POSSIBILITY OF EVERYTHING
Location: Chinatown/Queen West
Curator: Dominique Fontaine, independent curator and Founding Director of aposteriori, a non-profit curatorial platform.

Conga Irreversible, Lost Carpinteros, 2012
Conga Irreversible, 2012
Location: 100 Garrison Road
In a video installation from the renowned Havana-based collective Los Carpinteros (The Carpenters), 100 professional Cuban dancers wearingflamboyant black costumes do the conga in reverse. The dancers move to a score composed for the piece by Cuban jazz artist Yosvany Terry, which is played in reverse, doubling the subversion of the dance. This new backwards ‘comparsa’ (a traditional conga typically performed duringCarnival) is a direct critique to Cuba's socio-political reality.
Chic Point, 2005

Sharif Waker, a Nazareth born artist, imagines “fashion for Israeli checkpoints” in this video installation. A reflection on encounters betweenforces of power and the everyday, the video is especially relevant in considering contemporary conflict across the globe.
Melting Point, 2014
Location: 100 Garrison Road
LeuWebb Projects transforms the Fort York historical site through converting the cannons into fountains of light and sound. The piece mergeshistorical monuments with ephemeral aesthetics, which reflects the combination of cultural narratives and historic events that have shaped FortYork itself.
