Our Parish Mission — Nuestra Senora de La Luz(Our Lady of the Light) is a community that comes together to model Jesus to all peoples by addressing physical concerns and spiritual matters, and to do as Jesus did, giving everything to bring people into a closer relationship with God, in celebration. 32ND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME OF THE YEAR C (2 Macc. 7: 1-2, 9-14): The Maccabee brothers refuse to violate the dietary laws of their ancestors, which marked for them a symbol of their traditional belief. They declare their hope in personal immortality. (2 Thess. 2: 16; 3:5): Paul asks the Thessalonians to pray that his proclaiming of the gospel may continue to flourish despite hostility. He prays that the God of hope may strengthen the Thessalonians in everything good that they do or say. (Gospel of Luke 20: 27-28): In reply to a question posed by Sadducees who do not believe in resurrection. Jesus states that those who are worthy will be transformed after death. REFLECTION: We must defend our faith to the point of death Todays readings place the fact of death firmly before us. The Maccabee brothers were ready to die for their beliefs. They continued in their love of God and suffered all kinds temptation with Christian fortitude. As Jesus says in the Gospel, all (people) are alive to the father. He raised the same Jesus from dead to give us hope. We are confident that death is but a gate-way to eternal life if we continue to believe in him who is the way, the truth and the life”, and follow his directives anywhere we are and in whatever we do. We must be ready always to defend our faith even to the point of death. Faith in God who gives life and death, faith in God of the living and the saints, faith in God who overcomes death is a great value. It requires the courage of saints, the conviction of the prophets and seeming foolishness/radicalism to defend our faith among our brothers and sisters in the midst of difficulties where truth (Jesus) is denied and crucified the second time. Jesus loves you, and so do I. -- Rev. Marcel Okonkwo A Veterans Day Prayer God of peace, we pray for those who have served our nation and have laid down their lives to protect and defend our freedom. We pray for those who have fought, whose spirits and bodies are scarred by war, whose nights are haunted by memories too painful for the light of day. We pray for those who serve us now, especially for those in harms way. Shield them from danger and bring them home. Turn the hearts and minds of our leaders and our enemies to the work of justice and a harvest of peace. Spare the poor, Lord, spare the poor! May the peace you left us, the peace you gave us, be the peace that sustains, the peace that saves us. Christ Jesus, hear us!
