Premier intermediate Hurling League

On Saturday evening last our Premier Intermediate Hurlers faced Tracton in their final league game in Brinny. Valleys raced into a nice lead after fifteen minutes leading on a score line of 1.06 to 0.05 with Chris O’Leary to the fore scoring 1.01 from play and another point from a free, two points from Colm Butler and one each from Rory O’Sullivan & Jack Walsh. Further points from Chris O’Leary (2), John Cottrell, Sean O’Regan, Aaron Lyons and another from Jack Walsh had the score 1.12 to 0.06 to the Rovers at the break. The second half continued in the same vein with the Rovers powering ahead with three goals, two from Kevin Canty and one from Richie Butler in the final minute. Points continued with Chris O’Leary (3), Kevin Canty, Rory O’Sullivan (2), John Cottrell & Colm Butler all adding to the tally leaving a final score of Valley Rovers 4.20 to Tracton’s 0.12. An excellent result which leaves Valleys top of the league. Also a word of thanks to our own Paul Hoey who stepped in to referee this match in the absence of the appointed official. SE Junior A Hurling Championship Valley Rovers Junior Hurlers took on Kinsale last

Tuesday in the Round 1 of the Junior A Hurling

Championship.

The Rovers were ahead for most of the first half, with

both teams missing score able chances but Kinsale

pulling back to make it 5 points apiece at the break.

In the second half Kinsale got an early goal to put

them 4 points up, with Valley Rovers responding

really well getting the next 5 points without reply.

Both teams exchanged points in the next five minutes

but the Rovers scoring a Darragh Looney free & a

superb point from full back Shane O’Leary with time

U14 P2 Hurling League

Our U14’s hurlers played Kilta Og on Sunday morning

in the P2 hurling league at Castlemartyr .

Valleys got off to a great start putting 1-4 on the

scoreboard before Kilta Og registered their first point.

The sides then exchanged a number of points before

Kilta Og broke through for a goal to leave the half

time score at Valley Rovers 1-9 Kilta Og 1-4.

The start of the second half was closely contested

with each side registering one point each in the

opening 10 minutes. Valleys then took the upper

hand scoring a number of points and then a well

taken goal. Kilta Og came back with two goals in the

last 5 minutes of play but at that stage Valleys had a

sufficient gap built up to hold on for a well deserved

victory on a final score of Valley Rovers 2-17 Kilta Og

3-7.

Senior Summer League The senior team travelled to Fr O’Neills on Monday

night last to play the next round of their summer

league. A slow showing from Valleys in the opening 15

minutes let Fr O’Neills go into a four point lead, but

with some positional changes enforced things started

to swing more in the Rovers favor & allowed them to

get into the flow of the game. A well taken point from

Laura Brew on the wing & two converted frees from

Susan O’Leary getting them back into the game before

they unfortunately conceived a soft goal towards the

end of the first half to bring the halftime score to Valley

Rovers 0-3 Fr O’Neills 1-7.

The Rovers were much more competitive in the

second half & were rewarded with an opportunist goal

from Eileen Foley when she got a flick on a long range

free delivery. Another converted free from Susan

O’Leary & one from Laura Brew brought the score back

to two points & all to play for. Fr O’Neills went one

more ahead again before valleys finished with Laura

Brew taking another well taken point & Ena Coughlan

converting to bring the game to a point between the

sides. Unfortunately time ran out for the Rovers at this

stage & the final score finished Valley Rovers 1-7 Fr

O’Neills 1-8.

This was a good team performance, showing heart &

determination & being unlucky not to have more

scores returned for the possession held. This teams

next game will be their senior championship debut

against Killeagh next Monday night in Castle road at

7.30pm. We wish them the best of luck.

the cork ‘black’ team which was successful in the shield

final, while Fiona Twohig and Grace O'Dwyer featured

on the cork ‘Red’ team which narrowly lost out in Laois

in the Semi-finals. Well done to all 3 girls & we look

forward to seeing them in the cork shirt again.
