X’s & O’s  

Valen'ne's  Day  gree'ngs  o/en  include  a  string  of  XXX  or  XO.  So,  what  does  XO  actually  mean?    The  common  custom  of  placing  X's  on  envelopes,  notes  and  at  the  boCom  of  leCers  to  mean  kisses  dates  back  to  the  Middle  Ages,  when  a  Chris'an  cross   was   drawn   on   documents   or   leCers   to  mean  sincerity,  faith,  and  honesty.  Since  most  of  the  common  people  could  not  read  or  write,  the  'X'  was   placed   on   documents,   and   a   kiss   placed  upon  it  as  a  show  of  their  sincerity.      The   'O'   is   of   North   American   decent;   no   one  really   seems   to   know  how   it  was   started.   It   has  been   said   that   when   arriving   to   the   US,   Jewish  immigrants  would  use  an   'O'  on  documents,  not  using  the  sign  of  the  cross.  Perhaps  now  it  is  used  as   the   'O'   being   rounded   represents   arms  encircling  another,  as  in  an  embrace.    Now,  'X'  is  used  to  signify  a  kiss  and  'O'  means  a   hug.   People   use   it   to   express   love,  affec'on,  passion  or   just  good  friendship,  something   to   stay   warm   and   share   our  warmth   with   others   and   show   our  feelings.  

Love   is   in   the  air,   love   is   everywhere…Cold  February   and   upcoming   St.   Valen'ne’s   Day  reminds   us   how   important   it   is   to   feel  warmth  and   love.  XO’s   are   the  best  way   to  express  it!  Hugs  keep  us  alive;  kisses  keep  us  happy   -­‐   so   make   other   people   happy.   This  LOVEly   session   won’t   leave   anyone  indifferent.   Express   your   emo'ons,   feel   the  EYP   spirit,   get   free   hugs   and   warm   kisses  from   your   dear  misters   and  misses!   All   we  need  is  love!  

That’s  interes0ng!    Abbreviated   signoffs   including  X's   and   O's   are   o/en   used   in  chat   rooms   and   instant  messaging.   Below   is   an  amu s i n g   l i s t   o f   t h e s e  abbrevia'ons:  OOO  =  big  hugs    XXX  =  big  kisses    oo   =   hugs   for   everybody   but  you    OO!  =  big,  excited  hugs    CCC   =   hugs   for   people   you  can't  quite  reach  around    OOQ  =  hugging  with  tongue  

Hate  being  lonely  at  the  party?    We   have   awesome   news   for   you   –   this   'me  everyone  will  have  a  soulmate,  companion,  pair  –   and   not   somewhere,   but   in   the   very   same  hall!   Dress   up   like   a   movie   star,   singer,  poli'cian,  historical  character  or  even  a  cartoon  hero,   express   yourself   and   find   the   perfect  partner   for   the   evening!   Please   note   that   you  should   be   very   aCen've   to   find   a   person   that  suits  you  best,  though  your  Mr  or  Mrs  Right  will  be  always  somewhere  nearby.  We  grant   that  each  Brad  will   find  his  Angelina  in  the  end  ;)

Eurovi l lage   i s   a   p lace   to  experience   how   many   different  na'onali'es   and   regions   of  Ukraine   and   other   countries   are  r e p r e s e n t e d   amo n g   t h e  par'cipants.   Each   country   and  region   presents   its   na'onal   or  regional   culture   and  way   of   life,  and   introduces   the   special'es  of  their   na'onal   cuisine,   which  makes  the  event  a  real    favourite  one  among  genera'ons  of  EYP  par'cipants.    

*Dress  code:  na'onal  costumes.    

*Note   for   Ukrainian   par0cipants:   You  will   receive   a   personal   email   saying  which   region   you’ve   been   assigned   to  and  the  list  of  the  people  to  contact  for  your  presenta'on.    

For  example:  Swedish  bring  delicious  meatballs   with   strawberry   sauce,  Belgian  -­‐   lots  of  chocolate  and  good  beer,   Italian   -­‐   pasta   and   nutella.  Georgians   will   definitely   impress   us  with   passionate   dancing,   Ukrainians  will  wear  vyshyvanka  and  treat  their  foreign  guests  with   varenyky,  uzvar,  kvas   or   any   special'es   to   represent  par'cular  region.  Apart   from   cuisine,   we   also   expect  each  region  to  prepare  and  perform  a  short  5-­‐minute  presenta'on  where  all  the  performers  would  be  dressed  up  in  their  na'onal  costumes!

Tradi'onal   Euroconcerts   involve   gi/ed   performers   to  surprise  us  with  their  talents.  However,  our  stars  used  to  get  only  rounds  of  applause  and  no  comments  or  awards.  That’s  why   this  'me   the  Euroconcert  will   be  held   in   the  format  of  "EYP’s  Got  Talent"  show!  Take  this  opportunity  to  let  the  Jury  tell  how  awesome  you  are!  *Note:  If  you  are  willing  to  par'cipate,  drop  us  a  line  with  an   example   of   your   performance   to   get   through   the  selec'on.

 Following  a  good  tradi0on  of  2012,  this  session…    …will  be  an  eco-­‐friendly  one,  having  a  number  of  eco-­‐'ps   in   the   programme.   In   par'cular,   the  transfers   will   be   on   foot   –   to   reduce   the   carbon  footprint,   the   session   papers   will   be   printed   on  recycled  paper,  and  –  the  most  exci'ng  innova'on  –   a   new   design   of   branded   EYP   eco-­‐cups   will   be  presented   to   the  par'cipants!  The  eco-­‐cups  2013  will  be  handmade  and  decorated  with  eco-­‐friendly  paint  and  will  be  distributed  to  all  the  par'cipants  for   the   session’s  'me!  Moreover,   you  will   have  a  chance   to   bring   one  of   this   cups   back   home  as   a  bright  piece  of  memory  from  the  session  –  for  this  you’ll  just  have  to  pay  a  small  deposit  fee!    …   will   give   you   an   opportunity   to   send   beau'ful  valen'ne  cards  and  we’ll  help  you  to  express  your  feelings  via  our  Valen'ne  Post.  Do  not  hesitate  to  share  your  love!    …will   help   to   become   more   EYP-­‐ish   by   ordering  branded  EYP  hoodies!
