17-Eleven: A convenience store known for its grab-and-go snack items, Slurpee drinks and, particularly in its
home market of Japan, a selection of private label ready-to-eat foods, such as bento boxes, noodle dishes and rice balls.
2Lawson: Although this C-store concept got its start in Ohio, it has thrived in its new home base of Japan, where
it sells a number of prepared foods.
3FamilyMart: Popular Japanese convenience store of-fering groceries, alcoholic beverages like sake and food
such as onigiri, or rice balls.
4JD Wetherspoon: A pub chain with a focus on val-ue, known for early moves into the breakfast daypart,
included expanded coffee offerings.
5Paris Baguette: With major penetration in South Ko-rea, this bakery brand focuses on quality, freshness and
customer service.
6Costa Coffee: With its focus on handmade Ital-ian-style coffee, Costa was the first U.K. coffee shop to
commit to sourcing Rainforest Alliance Certified coffee.
7Dicos: Chinese quick-service chain that specializes in Western-style food like fried chicken, burgers and fries.
8Sukiya: This concept specializes in gyudon and donbu-ri, which are rice-bowl dishes, as well as curry.
9IKEA: Cafeterias in this home-goods store offer tradi-tional Swedish food, with some variations, in the 40-plus
countries IKEA serves.
10Quick: A quick-service burger chain that aims to adapt American fast-food for a European audience.
11Hotto Motto: A takeaway bento chain specializing in freshly prepared food. It opened its first overseas
unit in China in 2010.
12Yoshinoya: A quick-service chain specializing in low-priced gyudon, or rice-and-beef bowls.
13Nando’s: Offering a unique and relaxed atmo-sphere, this South African and Portuguese-fusion

19Saizeriya: A Japanese chain specializing in fami-ly-style Italian cuisine.
20Greggs: This bakery chain offers a wide variety of sandwiches, meat pies, hot dogs, pastries and coffee.
21Gusto: Family chain that serves both Japanese and Western foods. Steaks and hamburgers are some of
the concept’s most popular dishes.
22Enterprise Inns: A leased and tenanted pub company that collects rent from its pub operators.
Tenants purchase alcohol and other products from Enterprise.
23Tank & Rast: This business focused solely on concessions along the German Autobahn serves
items such as coffee, schnitzel, cake and pasta.
24Marston’s: One of the UK’s largest managed pub groups, operating, leasing, or franchising more than
2,000 units. Marston’s also operates five breweries.
25Gyoza no Ohsho: Japanese chain known for its dumplings, large portions and a reputation for being
fast and affordable.
