The FaithWorks congregations of the ELCA in Racine are preparing to take the next steps in our process of living into profound partner-ship. It has been nearly a year since St. Andrew began this journey with Emmaus/Emaus, Atonement, Our Savior's, and Redeemer. We have taken some risks this year to invest in our relationship with one another, and those risks have borne fruit. The Fall Festival was a

gratifying success -- a grace-filled surprise, as well as the reward of much hard work. In the midst of on-going challenges and many live questions, those who have been working on the FaithWorks leadership team sense that God is at work in this. So where is the Spirit leading us next?

The FaithWorks Mission Council has set a day aside for retreat, to give us the space and time to listen, dream and plan together. Our goal is to clarify our vi-sion for this partnership and see the concrete actions that will become our next steps in 2013. I invite you prayerfully to consider taking part in this important day together. We hope to gather over 100 leaders from the FaithWorks congre-gations. With God's help and guidance, we are the ones who will help shape the future of the ELCA in Racine.

The day will be led by David Daubert, who brings experience as an agricultural engineer, nonprofit board member, parish pastor, and denominational executive to his work in faith-based organizational renewal. He has published several books and articles, including Seeing Through New Eyes; The Future Starts Now; Living Lutheran: Renewing Your Congregation; and Reclaiming the V Word: Re-newing Life At Its Vocational Core.

"FaithWorks: Imagining Our Future Together" has been scheduled for Satur-day, December 1, 8:30-3:00 pm, on the Northwestern Campus of Holy Com-munion Lutheran Church (the former Good Shepherd Lutheran Church). Will you consider saying “yes” to this day of listening, relationship building and entering into important dialogue with our ELCA partners in ministry as we consider the next steps to be taken? Join Us at The Magnificent Mile Lights Festival

The Magnificent Mile Lights Festival Downtown Parades > The Magnificent Mile Lights Festival

For over 50 years now, The Magnificent Mile Lights Festival presented by BMO Harris Bank has kicked off the holiday season in Chicago. Over a million lights on trees up and down North Michigan Avenue will be illuminated at this magical holiday celebration hosted by Mickey, Minnie and their friends from Disney Parks. Witness the spectacle as Mickey flips the switch at 5:30 pm (parade step-off at 6:oopm) on Saturday, November 17, and enjoy exciting marching bands, gigantic balloons, celebrity appearances and more, culminating in a spectacular fireworks show over the Chicago River.

WHEN: November 17, 2012

WHERE: Pick-up at St. Andrew Lutheran Church (Racine) and Grace Lutheran Church (Kenosha).

TIME: Bus leaves St. Andrew at 10:00am and will return to St. Andrew approximately 9:30pm

COST: $20.00 per adult - $10.00 per child 12 and under (Checks payable to: St. Andrew Lutheran Church)

Meals and shopping are on your own….the bus will stay downtown and you can feel free to warm up, nap, or bring a cooler and enjoy lunch with family and friends on the bus. For more details, please con-tact Pam Robers (681-6213), or the church office between 9 a.m. -to 12 p.m. (639-2072).

On Thanksgiving Eve, November 21, Thanksgiving Eve, November 21, Thanksgiving Eve, November 21, we will gather at St. Andrew for a time of worship, thanksgiving and celebration. In the midst of changing times, we still find ourselves living on the graced edge of things. Light still shines in darkness. When we watch for it, the signs of God's presence - life, hope, compassion, creativity - are evident, sometimes in abundance. And as we say regularly whenever we gather at the Table: it is right, our duty and our joy, that we give thanks to God at all times and in all places. So we gather.

Worship will begin at 7:00 p.m. Worship will begin at 7:00 p.m. Worship will begin at 7:00 p.m. The Shekinah Glory and Refuge Church communities, who are close partners with us in the Racine Interfaith Coalition, have been invited to join us. After worship all are invited to mingle and enjoy pie and conversation in the Fellowship Hall.

Thanksgiving Eve Service, November 21

Those who would like to make an offering of a pie or two for the occasion will be blessed with our gratitude.

All who were baking through the summer for the Farmer’s Market are encouraged to take a break and just come and receive the goodness of others.

After six busy months of Thursday Farmers Market, we have wrapped up the outdoor season. We still have soups, jams, and jel-lies; pickled beets; tomato sauce salsa; and winter squash for sale in the St. Andrew Fellowship Hall.

St Andrew’s dedicated staff and our out-door sellers have wrapped up their sales pitches, and have enjoyed a vendor pot luck dinner. There they planned for next year’s goals and objectives. New next year will be a weekly petting zoo for the little people. One of our vendors will provide the creatures for the zoo. A miniature goat

named Andrew will be the star; but, rumor has it he is not a saint.

Our church members demonstrated never-ending gener-osity with their weekly pledging of baked goods for the market.

Early in the season before homegrown veggies were ready, the bakery kept our booth open. Repeat custom-ers requested certain baked items; and, our faithful bak-ers provided them them with their special requests. Fruit pies, lemon bars, sweet rolls, apple squares, and pump-kin squares seemed to be real favorites.

Our soup sales doubled from last year’s soup sales in spite of the hot summer season. We tried to provide the favorites which included Chicken Noodle, Splitpea and Ham, Lemon Chicken (Mayor Dickert seemed to favor the Lemon Chicken), Harvest Squash, and Stuffed Green Pepper. Our very dry summer required us to hire ex-tra workers to help with the watering and weeding. These workers we paid from the Farmers Market proceeds.

Regular guests for our market often commented about the friendly, helpful atmosphere our ven-dors provided. I have nothing but loud praise for our own five women sales people. These women worked for six months of the summer helping to make the St. Andrew Farmer’s Market a happy destination for our guests. However, we also would not have had a successful market if our weekly bakers had not relig-iously provided the baked goods that make St Andrew famous in the community. Still other members gave cash, sugar, flour, canning jars, Sure-Jell, gas money, and garden supplies to help defray the cost of operating our market. There will be a gathering at church to honor and thank all our members who generously contributed to the success of the Farmers Market. This gathering will occur when our kitchen stove issues have been recti-fied. Thanks to all of you for your help! The Northside Food Pan-try will receive $1,327.00 which is 15% of the proceeds of the market. The balance of $7,524.00 will be utilized for the Kitchen Project. Enjoy the garden pic-tures. Rummage Boutique Recap

The fall Rummage/Boutique netted $1,299.50. Approximately $260 of that amount were sales from the Boutique. Thank You to everyone who helped in any way. It was a busy week marking and setting up for the sale, along with baking for the Farmer’s Market. Many asked, “What do you do with items that don’t sell?” We told our own church members Shekinah Glory, AA Groups and the RUSD Transi-tion Class to take anything they could use. On Monday (clean-up day), Jude Burton took clothing to Love and Charity. Toys went to Toys for Tots. Dress clothing went to Dress for Success. Books went to the library and hospital book carts and both Lutheran High Thrift Stores. Bethesda Lutheran Thrift Store on Durand Avenue came and took all the rest. This is the first time we have given to them since they only opened this past year. Their home base is located in Watertown, Wisconsin. They have 300 program sites of which three group homes are in Sturtevant serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. All the places appreciated our donations with several saying, “Tell St. Andrew members ‘thank you!’.”

The annual public meeting this year will center on the 11X15 Prison Re-form campaign, which seeks to reduce state prison population by increas-ing mental health and substance abuse treatment alternatives for nonvio-lent offenders. We will hear from those who are involved in the system here in Racine County and learn how we can make a difference. The 22 congregations of the Racine Interfaith Coalition have the opportunity to make a big impact in our community. We will celebrate our accomplish-ments this year and anticipate new actions in 2013. The Racine Interfaith Coalition is you! Come and discover what we can accomplish together.
