Nov. 19 or Nov. 29, 2010 November Book Report A Diorama (Cardboard Box Scene)

This month, as you read Tall Tales, Fables, and Legends, select one of your favorite and make a cardboard box scene of a setting in the book. The scene must include the main character/ s and be an important part of the story. Your box can be no smaller than a shoe box, but can be larger. Here are the criteria:

1. The selection you make must be a NEW story to you. 2. The story may have been read from:

internet websites on the BLOG books in the room personal books that you have

Your challenge:

Be creative, detailed, and colorful. Imagine that you are in charge of creating a set or scene from your story for a stage

production, but you must do this in miniature. Be sure that you cover all sides of the box, inside and out. You can do this by

covering the outside of the box with wrapping paper, if you wish. Included with the box scene, glued to the outside, needs to be:

Your name. The title of your story. The author’s name and culture of origin. If there is no author, say Unknown. A list of the main characters and a description of them. (Adjective words) A statement, (several sentences in length), describing your scene and its importance

to the story. In other words, what happened in this scene and how did it impact the story?

A paragraph telling the story. (This is the plot.) A paragraph telling the reason you think this story was written.

o Was it to teach a lesson, to entertain, or to explain an event or fact in nature? Whatever choice you make, support your opinion with examples. (Think: How might this story have originated or begun?)

In class, you will be writing a paragraph which identifies your story selection as a Tall Tale, Fable, or Legend. This will be your response to literature.
