to pledge their donation to the modular classroom addition

in place and ready to use.
With over 400 families in the parish, that’s about $175 per
family. Please be generous with your pledges so we can
finish this project soon.

Weekly Message from Deacon Rob on the Sunday Readings
SAINT OF THE WEEK:
St Leo the Great November 10th
Saint Leo is known as one of the best administrative popes of the early church during the fifth century. He worked hard to control the heresies of Pelagianism and Manichaeism (deviating extremes). He gave spirit-ually inspired sermons that reached the everyday needs and interests of the people. He used his talents in areas where spirit and structure are inseparably combined providing clear doctrine, peace and pasto-ral care. He played the peacemaker when barbarians were invading, convincing Attila the Hun not to attack Rome. “Virtue is nothing without trial.”

As we approach the end of the Church year, it is highly praised to perform a scrutinization of the relationship that exists between man and God. Today’s liturgy prompts a refocus of that special relationship that exists between the Creator and man. All three readings, reveal that this unique relationship is intimate in nature and not domineering. Rather, despite the dependency of one part (man) on the other and the omnipotence of one (God), there is a symbiotic and intimate union of the two. It is this union that creates the uniqueness for those who accept it. In order to bridge the gap that exists between God and man, a mediator is required.
In the first reading from the Book of Deuteronomy, the Divine status in relationship to man is related. Today, we are told and warned to “fear” the Lord and keep all His laws and commandments. In doing this, we are informed that our lives will be long and prosperous. However, this fear and obedience must not be blindly given; instead, it must be done through agape love. This last factor is of utmost importance and cannot lightly be given. It is the focus and prime ingredient of the uniqueness of the relationship. It is this “love” that God has to reveal in order for man to comprehend and complete the relationship. Through the Divine Word and action, the exact meaning of the word “love” will be exemplified. Due to Original Sin, mankind is flawed and will require an in-termediator to complete, reveal and affirm the relationship. For the Chosen People, this intermediator is the High Priest whose position has to be repeatedly filled. This Divine Intermediator will permanently fulfill that role.
Our second reading invokes this intermediator, too. In the Letter to the Hebrews, the author reminds us that the priests came from the Levites and because of death were constantly being replaced.
Now, there is an eternal High Priest found in Christ. Due to the Divine interaction, mankind, now, has an eternal advocate for those who approach God through his intercession. Christ, the new High Priest, is unblemished and, therefore, fit to approach God on man’s behalf. It is through Jesus that God and Man can
be united together and paradise restored.
In today’s Gospel by Mark, Jesus emphasizes the two elements needed for man to regain his status and relationship with God. When approached by an unnamed scribe and asked which commandment is first, Jesus responds with “…love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength…”. He, then, quickly adds the second, “…You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”. The scribe affirms Christ’s answer causing Jesus to proclaim the scribe is not far from the kingdom of God. This exchange clearly reveals the importance of love in maintaining properly the intimate and symbiotic relationship created by God with man through agape love. It will be on the cross that
Christ demonstrates the depth of the love that is needed to complete the relationship.
Today, the Church reminds her members of the role over which they will be judged. She takes the time to assert the importance of agape love. This love is sacrificial in nature that requires a total and unreserved commitment from both members. It is this type of love that creates the intimate and symbiotic union of God and Man. Holy Mother the Church desires us to reflect upon our personal relationship with God over the past year in order that we may discern our level of commitment. She asks us to strengthen our resolve and display to our world the agape love that is needed for true happiness.
