Immigration, Immigrants & Refugees

THANK YOU FROM THE ST. VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY

On the evening of Wednesday, August 1st, the Lower Church Hall was filled to capacity and brimming over with the enthusiastic and smiling faces of all of our students and their parents. It was time for the

Annual St. Vincent De Paul Back to School Distribution, and the evening was a huge success. Backpacks, stuffed with notebooks, paper, pens, pencils, thumb drives, cleaning supplies, crayons,

rulers and all the other school necessities that the kids would need, went flying out the doors accompanied by the happy faces of our students.

Thank you to all of the St. Turibius Parishioners for your consistent generous donations to the St. Vincent DePaul Society -- it is only because of your generosity that we are able to purchase all of

the school supplies that were give away this year, thereby enabling all of our students to attend school and be well equipped to deal with the challenges of getting an education.

As we purchase these supplies, they are shipped to the convent, where they are stored until the evening of the Distribution. A special thank you to Mr. Braulio Alvardo and Mr. Enrique Velasquez for all their hard work in bringing all the stored school supplies from the convent to the church basement that evening. That was truly a lot of heavy lifting, and we couldn't have done it without Braulio and Enrique.

Last, but certainly not least, a very special thank you is forthcoming to the following group of young people in our parish. This successful evening would not have been possible without the dedication and hard work of the St. Turibius Parish Youth Group, and their Leader, Mr. Edgar Quintero. These young

people were responsible for the set up of the Hall and the setup of all the supplies, the actual distribution to the students, and the clean up of the Felician Hall at the end of the evening. Once again,

we could never have done it without them. They are truly a dedicated group of teen-agers and a blessing from God for all of us. Thank you again, St. Turibius Youth Group and Mr. Edgar Quintero.

A final Thank You to all of the families and students who came to participate in our Annual Distribution . We sincerely appreciate your being there, and we are hopeful for a blessed and successful school year

for all of our students. Work hard, study hard, and make us all proud.St. Vincent de Paul Society

This weekend of September 8–9 across the Archdiocese of Chicago, we will reflect as a people of faith on immigration and the plight of immigrants and refugees arriving in our nation. Government officials and our elected representatives have the responsibility to

develop sound and humane policies and regulations that reflect the values of our great nation. Beyond policies for immigration, however, there are immigrants and refugees, real people like us who deserve our attention, concern, and care. They are men, women, and

children, many of whom are desperately fleeing the violence of their home countries. What does this mean? And, practically speaking, what can we do? These are the questions will

take up as we listen to the word of God and pray for enlightenment.

In our own city of Chicago, Saint Frances Xavier Cabrini (d. 1917) walked our streets and cared for immigrant people. With deep faith,

great compassion, and creative initiatives, she responded to immigrants in need. In this challenging moment in our history, let us pray through

her intercession that God will enlighten and empower us to be true brothers and sisters of one another.

God our Father, who called Saint Frances Xavier Cabrini from Italy to serve the immigrants

of America, by her example, teach us to have concern for the stranger, the sick, and all those in need, and by her prayers help us to see Christ in all the men

and women we meet.

Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

one God, for ever and ever. Amen

National Rosary Rally Coming to America

October 7, 2018

Last October, in Poland more than a million Catholics gathered along the borders of their nation praying to Our Lady for their country. Later Ireland, Britain and Australia prayed for their Nations.

Now, WE, in the U.S., are asking for help for the soul of our nation which is wracked by moral decay and spiritual decline.

On the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary which is October 7, Catholics in the U.S. will gather along the coasts, in Washington D.C., at State Capitols, at Churches and in individual homes to beg Our Lady of the Rosary to turn the tide of what is going on in our nation (millions of unborn babies

slaughtered, drug use, countless children growing up in broken homes, sexual abuse, etc.). The question of HOW can this turn around happen? Our Lady has given us the answer at Fatima

and La Salette, France, at Quito, Ecuador and Akita, Japan. PRAY THE ROSARY!!!

We have heard this solution throughout history, but the real question is “WHAT ARE YOU DOING?”

Well, one thing YOU CAN DO is join the St. Turibius Parish Family on October 7, 2018 at 3PM (the Hour of Mercy), in church, to pray for OUR NATION to combat the evil in today’s society.

Please mark your calendar, invite your family and neighbors to “PRAY THE ROSARY!!”

"...As a Family of Faith that has an Attitude of Gratitude for the gifs God has given to us...."

Immediately after reading this, the donors at our weekly Bingo come to mind. YOU are amongst the gifts God has given to our Parish. In addition to supporting us by playing the games, purchasing pull tabs, buying food

items, some of you even bring bakery, kitchen supplies, etc.

And then there are OUR parishioners, who are extremely generous every time we ask for help with kitchen supplies. Again, our cabinets are filled by YOU and we say a great big THANK YOU!! Whether it was a cash

donation, napkins, cups, etc.with an ATTITUDE of GRATITUDE, we pray God will Bless you and your loved ones with much health and happiness.

Dziekuje Barzdo, Mucha Gracias, THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!!

We Are One Family, Encircled by God’s Love!

Saint Turibius Parish

Parish Mission Statement

We Believe that God is Love, and when we live in love we live in God and God lives in

us! Therefore we, the Parish Family of Saint Turibius, dedicate ourselves to living out

Christ’s Great Commandment: we will love the Lord our God with all our heart, with all our soul, with all our mind, and with all our strength, and we will show our love for God

by the way we love and care for one another. To this end, we will respond to our baptismal

call, strengthened by the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ and empowered by

the Holy Spirit. As a Family of Faith that has an Attitude of Gratitude for the gifts God has given to us, we will share our time, our talent

and our treasure with each other. We welcome into our parish family all people, because we

believe that together we are the Body of Christ and together we can bring the love, peace,

forgiveness, healing, and joy of Christ into our community in ways we never could have if we were to remain apart. May all who meet us, who worship with us, who work and play with

us, know we are Christians by our love!
