The dates for the Baptism of children and for the Pre-Baptismal instruction of parents should be arranged in the rectory ONE MONTH IN ADVANCE. In addition to English, and Spanish this Sacrament may also be in Italian.

•WEDDINGS/ MATRIMONIO Pre–marital instruction is a requirement for all engaged couples. Consequently, arrangements for weddings should be made SIX MONTHS in advance.

“You know the time in which we are living. It is now the hour for you to wake from sleep, for our salvation is closer than when we first accepted the faith… Let us cast off the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. Put on the Lord Jesus Christ and make no provision for the desires of the flesh.” For twenty centuries, faithful Christians have listened to and read Saint Paul’s exhortation. No one can deny that his inspired word is not true.

Because of the long time span though, we may have fallen asleep. We are encouraged to begin this new period of advent with an eager enthusiasm, seeking ways to discover the presence of the Christ of history, as well as the Christ who is and is coming. Advent summons us to look with a new set of eyes at what the coming of Christ means for us in 2016. He comes in the gift of friends. He comes in the gift of prayer. He comes from those in need who ask us to be light to overcome their darkness. As daylight grows short, may we be light for others to see that the coming of the Lord is even more important now than advent 2015. We pray the words of Revelation ‘Come Lord Jesus.’

“Ustedes saben en qué tiempo vivimos y que ya es hora de despertarse, porque la salvación está ahora más cerca de nosotros que cuando abrazamos la fe… Abandonemos las obras propias de la noche y vistámonos con la armadura de la luz. Por el contrario, revístanse del Señor Jesucristo, y no se preocupen por satisfacer los deseos de la carne.” Por veinte siglos, fieles cristianos han escuchado y leído los llamados de San Pablo. Nadie puede negar que sus inspiradas palabras son la verdad. Puede que nos hallamos quedado dormidos ya que fueron dichas hace tanto tiempo. Se nos alienta a comenzar este Nuevo período de adviento con gran entusiasmo, buscando formas de descubrir la presencia de Cristo o la historia, así como al Cristo que es y que viene. El adviento nos llama a ver con nuevos ojos a lo que la venida de Cristo significa para nosotros en 2016. Viene en el don de los amigos. Viene en el don de la oración. Viene en aquellos necesitados que nos piden ser la luz que vence su obscuridad. A medida de que los días se vuelven más cortos, ojalá que seamos la luz para que otros puedan ver que la venida de nuestro Señor es aún más importante ahora que el adviento de 2015. Oremos las palabras del Apocalipsis: ‘Ven Señor Jesús’.

Questo testo non fa parte di quelli che si scelgono deliberatamente per trovarvi un conforto e risollevarsi il morale. Eppure la Chiesa mette un tale ostacolo all’inizio dell’anno liturgico. Si tratta di abbandonare il trantran, le abitudini, le usanze, di convertirsi e ripartire da zero. Al di là della gioiosa novella del Vangelo che annuncia la venuta redentrice di Dio, si dimentica e si respinge facilmente l’eventualità del giudizio, anche se non la si contesta assolutamente “in teoria”. È il pericolo che corrono i discepoli di tutte le

epoche. Se non si aspetta ogni giorno la sentenza di Dio, non si tarda a vivere come se non esistesse giudizio. Di fronte ad una tale minaccia, nessuno può prendere come scusa lo stile di vita “degli altri”: nessuno può trincerarsi dietro agli altri per sottrarsi al pericolo di essere dimenticato dal Signore. Salvezza e giudizio sono affini uno all’altro, ci scuotono nel bel mezzo della nostra vita: sia nel momento delle grandi catastrofi (la grande inondazione è qui evocata) sia nel corso del lavoro quotidiano nei campi o in casa. Uno è preso, trova scampo, è salvato; un altro è abbandonato. Ma non essere tratti d’impiccio non dipende chiaramente dal beneplacito degli altri. È l’uomo stesso che ha nelle sue mani la propria salvezza o la propria perdizione. Ecco perché, come spesso nel Vangelo, questo brano si conclude con un appello alla vigilanza.

2017 MASS BOOK

The 2017 Mass book is now available for your intentions from

Monday to Friday 10am - 6pm & Saturday from 10am to 4pm

We ask that you please fill out the forms located on the tables of the church entrances with the possi-ble dates and times you wish to reserve a mass.

This form will help us facilitate the process. The stipend for the mass is $15.00

Only exact change and checks are accepted.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWS We remind parents that

Religious Education Instruction will resume on Tuesday, November 29th

& Wednesday, November 30th

Calling all men In conjunction with the Knights of

Columbus, the parish is again offering an evening of prayer, recollection and a social gathering for the men of the parish. As was done

las year during Lent, the evening begins with Mass at 6:30pm, a talk giving by Father Steven Reilly at

7:15pm entitled “St. Joseph, Advent Hero”. This will be followed by a social and dinner at 8pm.

The date is Wednesday, December 14th, in the Chapel and parish center. Confession will also be available. All the men of the parish are invited.

Virgin of Caacupe All are invited to the Novena and Rosary in

honor of Our Lady of Caacupe. In the Church at 7:30PM beginning on Friday, November 25th

through December 3rd, 2016. The Central Mass (Feast) will be held on Sunday, December 4th at

3:00PMReception to follow at the school gymnasium.

Our Lady of Guadalupe We would also like to invite you to the Novena,

Rosary and Mass in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe at 7:30pm in the Church beginning

on Sunday, December 4th through Sunday, December 11th, 2016. On December 12th we

will be singing Las Mañanitas at 5:00am in the Church. The CENTRAL MASS will be celebrated at 8:00 pm.
