•BAPTISMS / BAUTIZOS/ BATTESIMO Baptism are celebrated once a month on a Sunday after the 12:30 Mass in Spanish and 2:00pm in English. The dates for the Baptism of children and for the Pre-Baptismal instruction of parents should be arranged in the rectory ONE MONTH IN ADVANCE. In addition to English, and Spanish this Sacrament may also be in Italian.

•WEDDINGS/ MATRIMONIO Pre–marital instruction is a requirement for all engaged couples. Consequently, arrangements for weddings should be made SIX MONTHS in advance.

“Brothers, select from among you seven reputable men, filled with the Holy Spirit and wisdom, whom we shall appoint to this task, whereas we shall devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word… They presented these men to the apostles who prayed and laid hands on them.” The needs of the early church were not different from those of our day. The text from the Acts of the Apostles informs us of the call by the apostles and the acceptance of the deacons to

respond and serve at table. In many parts of our country men will be ordained to the diaconate and the priesthood as they are called to Holy Orders. The mission is the same, to serve and preach the word. The mandate is no different, but in the words of Pope Francis they are to go out to the marginalized and bring the word of Jesus to others. How many of us just accept our ordained ministers, but how few of us promote vocations to the service of the church. How many of us affirm those who are in ministry and how few consider the call of the Lord, whether in ordained or ministry of service. Jesus, the way, and the truth and the life calls us as His disciples to minister and serve. What is He asking me to do? “Hermanos, busquen entre ustedes a siete hombres de buena fama, llenos del Espíritu Santo y de sabiduría, y nosotros les encargaremos esta tarea. De esa manera, podremos dedicarnos a la oración y al ministerio de la Palabra… Los presentaron a los Apóstoles, y estos, después de orar, les impusieron las manos.” Las necesidades de la naciente iglesia no eran diferentes de las de la iglesia hoy. El texto de los Hechos de los Apóstoles nos informa del llamado que hicieron los apóstoles y de la respuesta de los diáconos para servir las mesas. En muchas partes de nuestro país se ordenan hombres como diáconos y sacerdotes al ser llamados al Orden Sagrado. La misión es la misma, servir y predicar al mundo. El mandato no es diferente, pero en las palabras del Papa Francisco, deben ir a los marginalizados y llevar la palabra de Jesús a otros. Muchos de nosotros simplemente aceptamos a nuestros ministros ordenados, pero pocos de nosotros promovemos vocaciones al servicio de la iglesia. Muchos de nosotros afirmamos a aquellos en el ministerio, pero pocos consideramos el llamado del Señor, ya tomando el orden o el ministerio de servicio. Jesús, el camino, la verdad y la vida nos llama como sus discípulos a tomar un ministerio y servir. ¿Qué me pide que haga?

Le ultime parole che si pronunciano alla fine della vita hanno un carattere particolare. Riassumono il mistero di un essere. Platone fa parlare il suo maestro Socrate di immortalità prima di morire. Il condannato a morte consola quelli che restano. Le ultime parole possono essere molto pragmatiche. La madre di Goethe diede istruzioni di non mettere troppa uva passa nel dolce preparato per la sua sepoltura. Alcuni esortano i loro figli a sostenersi a vicenda. I patriarchi della Bibbia muoiono benedicendo la loro discendenza. Anche nel nostro Vangelo si

tratta di ultime parole. Parla uno che è consapevole di stare per morire. E colui che ne ha preso nota è convinto che quel morto è ancora in vita. Non leggete queste parole come un discorso ben costruito e coerente. Immaginate delle pause. Prendetele piuttosto come parole pronunciate in un profondo silenzio, come parole indirizzate a uomini prigionieri, “tutt’orecchi”, in qualche modo. Noi potremmo ascoltarle anche come si ascolta una goccia d’acqua cadere in una grotta. Bisogna che chi ascolta sia assolutamente silenzioso per lasciar entrare in sé queste parole. Se noi ascoltiamo veramente, sentiamo parole di consolazione: “Non sia turbato il vostro cuore”. Parole di speranza: “Nella casa del Padre mio vi sono molti posti”. Parole di maestà: “Io sono la via, la verità e la vita. Nessuno viene al Padre se non per mezzo di me”. Parole di vocazione esigente: “Chi crede in me compirà le opere che io compio”. Non è facile per noi capire immediatamente queste parole. I discepoli che interrompono il Signore fanno delle domande smarrite. Non hanno ancora capito, eppure è già l’ora dell’addio. Sapremo noi capire meglio?

Due to the upcoming Puerto Rican Day Parade, there is a date change for this year’s Golden Jubilee Mass. Couples

celebrating their 50th Wedding Anniversary anytime during 2017 are invited to attend the Annual Golden Wedding Jubilee Mass

with Cardinal Dolan at the Cathedral of St. Patrick, Sunday, June 18th at 2:00 pm. Pre-registration is

required. Please contact your parish for registration. Couples currently registered for the

original June 11th date should contact their parish to confirm their attendance. The closing date to register for the Mass is Friday, May 12th, 2017.
