HOLY MASS SCHEDULE
Thoughts For The Week NOVEMBER 24, 2013 ~ OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST, KING OF THE UNIVERSE
Dear Sisters and Brothers,
During the Second World War, a young man from
Switzerland, Roger Schütz, had a dream of starting a
community which would be a “parable of community”. He was
able to buy a small run-down property in the village of Taizé, in
France, where he saw people suffering from the wartime
conditions, many of whom were refugees, some of whom were
Jewish. With a small group of friends, Roger took them in and
cared for them. By 1942, it was too dangerous for them to
continue this work in France, so they moved to Geneva. After
the war, however, they were able to return to Taizé, and this
work of healing and reconciliation continued and the
community grew.
Today there are over a hundred brothers, Catholic and
Protestant, coming from around thirty nations. It is truly a
living parable of community, where differences of religious
background and nationality are reconciled. Each year,
thousands of young people come from all around the world to
join the community in prayer and to commit themselves to
working for reconciliation in all the different continents. The
legacy of Brother Roger, who was killed during evening prayer
in Taizé in August 2005, is now a movement of committed
Christian young people, who are meeting regularly all around
the world to pray, to experience community and to encourage
reconciliation wherever they are and however they can. A
central part of the Taizé experience is prayer around the cross, a
prayer where the wounds of a divided world are brought to the
cross of Jesus for reconciliation.
In the time of Jesus, the people wanted to unite around a
king, a new David, who would deliver them from their enemies
and oppressors. At first, they thought that Jesus was such a
Messiah. But in today’s Gospel Lesson, we see that, in the end,
they rejected Jesus as their king, they mocked him and handed
him over to be crucified. He cannot save himself, they said,
never mind us. It was, however, one of the thieves crucified
with him who recognised something of the truth of Jesus’ claim
to kingship. He prayed, “Jesus, remember me when you come
into your kingdom.” He had glimpsed the truth that the
paradise of God’s kingdom is to be found beyond death for
those who believe.
In today’s New Testament Lesson, St. Paul reflects on the
meaning of the death of Jesus. He understands that it fulfils
God’s plan to reconcile all things, to overcome the power of
darkness and to create a place for us in the kingdom of his
beloved Son. He, Christ, is “the first-born of all creation”. He is
the first to be born from the dead, and it is through his death
and resurrection that we too can be born again to new life. He is
the means for us to be reconciled with God and with each other.
In him we gain freedom from our slavery to sin, the forgiveness
of our sins. In this way, Christ breaks down the barriers and
divisions that we set up between ourselves because of our
selfishness and fear. Christ establishes a new way for us to
relate to God and to each other: his love is the life force of the
kingdom of God.
Jesus is the most unlikely figure of a king. He is rejected.
He is crucified. His kingdom is not of this world. Yet, his
Gospel of love, of self-sacrifice and service, his death on the
cross and his resurrection from the dead have produced the first
fruits of a new world. The kingdom of God, where Christ the
King rules over the minds and hearts of all those who believe,
will finally be revealed in heaven. But already, in the life of the
Church, his body, the men and women of our world can
experience the peace and reconciliation for which Christ came.
The parable of community that is lived in Taizé is a
witness for all of us. As we gather round the cross of Jesus, we
learn that his death overcomes our selfishness and sin; his
resurrection empowers us to live his new life and even now to
experience the reconciliation and peace of his kingdom. On this
feast of Christ the King, then, let us celebrate the fulfilment of
God’s plan, but let us commit ourselves once again to the
ongoing work of reconciliation and peace in our world.
In your charity, pray for the sick and the lonely - visit
them if you can. Also, please remember to pray for all who have
wandered from the faith, and all who have died. May God
always be pleased with us! - Monsignor Michael

Col. 1:13
If we recognize Jesus as our King, then we must also
recognize ourselves as His loyal subjects. As members of
God’s kingdom we have an abundance of wonderful
blessings. But we also have responsibilities. We must
always use our gifts to help build up the kingdom. We
must never forget that we are truly blessed to be called to
serve the Greatest of Kings.

Dear Friends of St. Ann,
Thanksgiving is on everyone’s mind these days. St. Ann
School is overflowing with gratitude to God and the people
he has placed in our lives to help us along the way.
Though tuition pays for 70% of our school costs, the rest is
split between parent fund raising and parish support. The
school children want to take this opportunity to thank their
parents for sending them to such a high quality, faith filled,
safe and loving school. In their name we thank the families
who sacrifice so much for their children.
We also want to thank the parish for continuously
supporting our school, not only through the collection
basket, but also through the support given to our fund
raisers. All of the school events are frequented by
parishioners. Many of you purchase Scrip, wrapping
paper, magazines, coupon books, chocolate, and so much
more. Every dollar earned through these sales means so
much to all of us. We use our moneys modestly and wisely
so that we are not providing students with stuff, but with a
high quality Catholic education. We also appreciate the
wonderful, prayerful example you set for us.
We thank our teachers, many of whom are parishioners of
St. Ann’s. Their dedication, skill, and sincere love are
evident in their words and actions. We thank our priests
and deacons. The faith is passed on through their kind
example and generous service. We would not be able to
enjoy the sacraments without them.
On and on the list could go – Knights of Columbus, Rosary
Altar Society, Parish Nurses, and many, many others. See
the children before you reaching out to give you a hug and
hear them repeating their sincerest thanks.
We must also stand together and thank our God whose
generosity knows no bounds. He has gifted us with all we
need for happiness in this life and the next. Our God really
is an awesome God.
God bless you,
Sr. Mary Klersey, MPF - Principal

Will you not spend one hour with me?
Forty Hours is a period of 40 hours of adoration before the Eucharist. The Blessed Sacrament is removed from the tabernacle
and placed in a monstrance. A monstrance is a special vessel that holds the consecrated host where it is visible to the sur-
rounding people. When Jesus is exposed in a monstrance then there is a perpetual vigil with Him and volunteers come
throughout the night to keep Him company.
We invite you to spend one hour with our Lord and Savior. The sign up sheet can be found in the back of the Church or
complete the cut out below and return to the rectory office. Jesus must never be alone! Come and adore him!

A Thanksgiving Day Prayer
For the love of brothers and sisters, a love that feeds my soul,
I say thanks.
For the blessings of true friends, who support, encourage and
mirror my own spirit. I give thanks.
For parents who brought me into this world,
I thank you, O God.
For the gifts that make me unique, and for the opportunity to
exercise these gifts. I am grateful.
For the country that allows me to speak my mind, to pursue
my dreams, to choose my career, I say thank you.
For the spiritual blessings that make me appreciate my earthly
possessions without depending on them, I give thanks.
For the gifts of mind and soul, that help me see my blessings,
share my blessings and proclaim God’s goodness,
I offer praise.
For You O God are Divine, above all creatures, yet content to
live within each soul. You are the reason I give thanks, for You
Are the source of all blessings. To you, be praise, honor and
glory forever. Amen.
