We had fig trees around our neighborhood but only one pomegranate tree that you had to climb a six-foot fence to get to, so we shied away for fear of getting caught. I’ve been seeing lots of trees with the red fruit hanging from them like Christmas ornaments for the last month or two. My girlfriend gave me several from her yard this week, along with instructions on how to get the seeds out. I had to admit I had never eaten one before. I did some research to see what the big deal was about pomegranates. Wondering what pomegranates are good for? Not only are they full of anti-oxidants, but are anti-viral, and a great source of Vitamin A, C and E. This fruit consists of three times as many oxidants as both wine and green tea. Pomegranates have been traditionally used for clearing up the skin and reducing inflammation as well as for the treatment of sore throats. Other health benefits include being a cure for heart-related problems, stomach disorders, cancer, dental problems, osteoarthritis, anemia, and diabetes (at least that’s what the internet said). Pretty amazing--I guess I’ll be eating more and more pomegranates(especially since my friend has a tree!). Greetings from the Green Team

from Weej Baggaley of The Green Team We were fortunate to have a CRampR representative speak to us about their Green Can program Itrsquos pretty amazing what can go in our green (yard and kitchen scraps) and our brown can (traditional ldquorecyclingrdquo) Please bear in mind though that itrsquos better not to have the waste to begin with If you donrsquot bring something into your home you wonrsquot have to figure out how to store it maintain it and eventually get rid of it Irsquove seen this in spades while helping my parents move into their new much smaller house and in helping my in-laws rearrange their cluttered home to accommodate a first floor bedroom and a walker There are so many tempting things out there but consider the transportation costs associated with that item and the resources that went into making it Maybe you can just take a picture of it on your cell phone and then walk away from it (works for me) This girl is not immune to the ldquoGimmesrsquordquo but I try I recommend a fun book called All You Need Is Less by Madeleine Somerville Itrsquos available from the San Clemente library and you can return it when yoursquore done Itrsquos free and no Amazon box to dispose of
