Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults All parishioners are welcome to join us and support those who are actively seeking a better understanding of the Catholic Faith. The topic this week is: the Eucharist—Source & Summit of our Faith.. We meet in Seton Hall Tuesday, November 17, 7:30—9:00 pm.

New to St. Elizabeth Parish? Register on November 19

We invite all those interested in joining St. Elizabeth parish to join us Thursday, November 19 at 6:30pm in the Parish Ministry Center (northeast corner of Main and 75th Streets). The registration form is quick and we’ll be happy to answer any questions you may have. You must be a registered parishioner for sacramental preparation. To sign up for this session call Sandi Lombardino at the parish office, 816.523.2405.

Homily Focus Group What it is: St. Elizabeth parishioners meet for an

hour and reflect on the Sunday Readings in the current liturgical cycle. This is done by looking at how the Scriptures apply to concrete situations in our lives and in the world. Reflections will assist the priest to prepare a homily that is suited to the needs of the community. In addition to this, the exercise will help one to grow in deeper appreciation of Scripture and prepare one to better hear the readings proclaimed at Mass. Several parishioners have already been involved in this and have enjoyed it very much. I myself have found it very helpful and enriching to my own spiritual life.

When it is: There are several dates I have set aside for the remainder of the year. The meetings will be from 7 pm to 8 pm on the following days.

Tuesday, November 17 Readings for Christ the King ~ Year B

Thursday, December 3 Second Sunday in Advent ~ Year C

Wednesday, December 9 Third Sunday in Advent ~ Year C

Wednesday, December 16 Fourth Sunday in Advent ~ Year C

Where it is : In the PMC conference room. I hope to have approximately 7 people at each

meeting. You can sign up for as many or as few as you would like. First come first serve.

Please call me at 816.300.0755 or email me at [email protected] to reserve a spot or for any questions.

Preparation for Infant Baptism Our next Baptismal Preparation session will

be Thursday, November 19 ~ 7:30 to 8:45pm in the Parish Ministry Center. If you are a registered parishioner and wish to attend this session call Sandi at 816.523.2405.

Thank You The members of the Friendship Club would love to

take this opportunity to thank all those who so generously helped us with baked good for our “Bake Sale” on Sunday. We had fabulous sweets to offer the members of our parish, plus a great turn out of parishioners who purchased sweets and gift certificates provided by local merchants. St. Elizabeth, as a community, has been so supportive over the years! We, in turn, promise to be good stewards of the money you give to help support our group.

Don’t forget that our king size quilt will be raffled off Saturday, December 5th at the Big Twelve championship football game that will be televised in Seton Hall. The Knights of Columbus will be providing dinner and ample ways to watch the game!

As more Americans feel the weight of the economic crisis, Catholic Campaign for Human Development needs

your support in next week’s collection more than ever. Thank you for your generosity.

Did You Hear That? In our church, sudden, loud or percussive sounds can

be very startling, especially during quiet moments at Mass. Have you noticed this when children are returning from Children’s Liturgy of the Word at 10am Mass, or when a baby is crying, or when from your pew, you can hear a conversation taking place in the 75th Street vestibule? The choir loft is not a sound barrier-sounds travel over the loft into the church. If you must leave Mass, please be advised that voices and sounds in the vestibule are audible throughout the Church

Young Adults A new Young Adult group is forming based on St.

Maximilian Kolbe’s vision of Total Consecration to Jesus through and with Mary. Come and join other Young Adults age 18-35 as we learn why St. Maximilian Kolbe wished to build earthly cities dedicated to Mary throughout the world. We will be meeting every third Sunday at 7pm at St. Elizabeth’s Parish Hall. Our next meeting will be this Sunday, November 15th when we will discuss in further detail the vision behind St. Maximilian’s vision of establishing the Militia Immaculate.

Gently Used Bicycles Wanted Several members of St. Elizabeth School Girl Scout Troop 242 are coordinating a Bike Safety Rodeo in the spring. We are currently collecting gently used bikes any size. These bikes will be used at our Bike Safety Rodeo and then will be

given to children that do not have the resources to purchase bikes. Through our Bike Safety rodeo, we hope to help kids in the urban core of Kansas City learn about the safety aspects of riding a bicycle on streets and roads and also the importance of wearing helmets. Please call us 816.822.7887 if you have a gently used bike that you would like to donate and we will make plans to pick it up. Thank you. Thank you to everyone who has joined our campaign by making a pledge to ensure that ―Faith Moves Mountains‖ (Matthew 17:21). For those who might have yet to pledge, we have placed pledge envelopes in all pews this Sunday. Please use these envelopes to help us meet our financial goal to enable the Catholic Church in Northwest Missouri to be a beacon of hope to those in need.

As you consider your gift to the Bishop’s Annual Appeal through the envelopes found in your pew this weekend, please ponder:

Do I accept that everything I am and have is a gift from God? Have my gifts back to God reflected my gratitude? How can I get closer to God and achieve better piece of mind.

We urge you to pledge by using the in-pew envelopes and return them to the Diocese or to the parish office.

Advent Catechetical Series Looking for something special to do this Advent

season? Are you interested in deepening your knowledge of the Catholic faith?

If you answered ―yes‖ to both or one of these questions (or even if you answered ―no‖ to both) then you are invited to come to a series of talks (a total of 3) on the catholic faith given by Fr. Christian this advent season

Talks are based on the ―Evangelium‖ catechetical program that makes use of interactive PowerPoint presentations and Catholic art to teach the truths of the faith.

Each session will be approximately 1 ½ hours in length and will also include prayer and some discussion.

The dates, times and topics are as follows: Session I: November 30th—7-8:30pm –The Meaning

of Life/Creation and the Fall Session II: December 7th –7-8:30 pm—Mary and the

Four Last Things/The Incarnation Session III: December 14th –7-8:30pm—Life of

Prayer/Praying the Mass/Lectio Divina (Spiritual reading)

Classes will meet in the PMC conference room. Older teens and young adults are encouraged to attend.
