It was near four o'clock when the Royal band was heard hading the column donn Richards street iron) the barrack. His F.xcellent'y Governor (Jlcg-hon- i, who was in civilian's clothes, made his reviewing stand on the sidewalk near the front gate of the Palace yard. He was accompanied by Major Robertson, II. M.'s Cham- berlain, and Major Sainl. Nowlein, Captain of the Household Guards, both the Governor' aides, in full uniform. The Household Guards numbering about 50 all told were commanded by Lieut. Kaaha. The Honolulu Police mustered about 45 men and were in command of Captain Nahoo-lew- Both bodies carried rifles with fixed bayonets. After counter- marching round the square, the band in the lead playing lively marches, the column drew up in front of the reviewing stand. There the two divisions were put through various evolutions, and after another march round were exercised in the manual of arms without instructions. The marcliiug of both bodies was very creditable, but the wheelings might have been better. One of the most notable features of the parade was the fine appearance of the po- lice. Every man was of fine physique and there was not an inch of differ- ence in the stature of any two of them. They were dressed in their new uniform, dark blue coats with bright blue trimming, white trousers and black helmet hats. The Guards performed the manual with first-rat- e precision. The same might be said of the police except for a few of the fresher recruits, who were behind- hand in taking the!r time and spoiled the general effect on the first trial. There was a marked improvement on a repetition, perhaps because the laughter of spectators the fir st time put the slow ones on their mettle. The crowd was parted several times by street cars passing, aud on one occasion there was a little scene. Just as the trumpet sounded for the march-off- , a car bell rang for a passage. The driver was asked to wait a little, as the troops were just going to move across the track. The driver angrily protested against being obstructed, and there were loud jeers and counter-jeerin- Deputy Marshal Mehrten, who was assisting at the parade, just then showed his good lad by arranging to give the car a thoroughfare. The car rolled along its way amidst cheers, the driver glaring over his shoulder in triumph. Counter- marching in good style the column left the field to the exhilarating strains of the band. A FAVORITE REMEDY. Chamberlain's Cough Remedy is a favorite during the winter months on account of its great success in the cure of colds. There is nothing that will loosen a severe cold so quickly, or as promptly relieve the lungs. Then it counteracts any tendency to- ward pneumonia. It is pleasant and safe to take, and fully worthy of its popularity. For sale by all dealers. Ihmson, Smith & Co., agents. pi'c.Mrd. Crowds lined the bordersof the upline fir half Bti hour beforethe troop appeared. It was nearfour o'clock when the Royal bandwas heard hading the column donnRichards street iron) the barrack.

His F.xcellent'y Governor (Jlcg-hon- i,

who was in civilian's clothes, made his reviewing stand on thesidewalk near the front gate of thePalace yard. He was accompaniedby Major Robertson, II. M.'s Cham-

berlain, and Major Sainl. Nowlein,Captain of the Household Guards, both the Governor' aides, in fulluniform.

The Household Guards numberingabout 50 all told were commandedby Lieut. Kaaha. The HonoluluPolice mustered about 45 men andwere in command of Captain Nahoo-lew-

Both bodies carried rifleswith fixed bayonets. After counter-marching round the square, the bandin the lead playing lively marches, the column drew up in front of thereviewing stand. There the twodivisions were put through variousevolutions, and after another marchround were exercised in the manualof arms without instructions.

The marcliiug of both bodies wasvery creditable, but the wheelingsmight have been better. One of themost notable features of the paradewas the fine appearance of the po-

lice. Every man was of fine physiqueand there was not an inch of differ-ence in the stature of any two ofthem. They were dressed in theirnew uniform, dark blue coats withbright blue trimming, white trousersand black helmet hats. The Guardsperformed the manual with first-rat- e

precision. The same might be saidof the police except for a few of thefresher recruits, who were behind-hand in taking the!r time and spoiledthe general effect on the first trial. There was a marked improvement ona repetition, perhaps because thelaughter of spectators the fir st timeput the slow ones on their mettle.

The crowd was parted severaltimes by street cars passing, aud onone occasion there was a little scene.Just as the trumpet sounded for themarch-off- , a car bell rang for apassage. The driver was asked towait a little, as the troops were justgoing to move across the track. Thedriver angrily protested againstbeing obstructed, and there wereloud jeers and counter-jeerin-

Deputy Marshal Mehrten, who wasassisting at the parade, just thenshowed his good lad by arranging togive the car a thoroughfare. Thecar rolled along its way amidstcheers, the driver glaring over hisshoulder in triumph. Counter-marching in good style the columnleft the field to the exhilaratingstrains of the band.

BOATING ACCIDENTS.

Two Marrow Em-ap- Yratrrday-Ou- tfatality Iteportrd To-da-

An accident happened yesterdayafternoon to the yacht Carrie Kobin-fo- n,

from which" fatal results werenarrowly averted by the presence ofmind and bravery of VV. Widdi field. The party, which consisted of V.

Widilifield, Geo. C. Allen, J. Coak-le- y,

Alex. Smith, Win. Wond andArthur Jones, wa9 taking in thesights on Pearl Uiver, when throughan unexpected puff the yacht cap-

sized, throwing its occupants into thewater, some getting entangled in

the yacht's gear. Among the latterwas Arthur Jones who was caughtin the sails and became exhausted in

his struggles to escape. He wouldhave gone under had not W. Widdi-flel- d

come to his assistance and car-

ried him to shore in safety. Hiscondition was critical when Janded, and it was some time before he wasbrought round. As 30011 as the boatcapsized all started to strip them-selves of their apparel, and throughthis act they lost more or less valu-

ables. J. Coukley is stated to havesuffered the heaviest loss, losing agold watch and a few dollars. Be-

sides Jones, others of the party wereably helped by Widdifield.

Another accident to a yachtingparty happened yesterday at PearlRiver. This party were more for-

tunate than their neighbors in dis-

tress, inasmuch as only one in thecompany suffered. The yacht wasbeing brought round on a tack, whenthe boom unexpectedly swerved andstruck Prof. Clias. H. Townsend onthe head, somewhat stunning himand knocking him into the water. Itwas some time before the yacht couldbe brought about, and the gentlemanwas fairly exhausted. A. L. C. At-

kinson, one of the party, notingthe condition of the man, sprangoverboard and held him till a ropewas flung to him and they were haul-

ed on board. Sir. Atkinson display-ed a commendable presence of mind.Mr. Townsend is attached to the U.b. S. Albatross,

This afternoon a message was re-

ceived by the Mutual telephoneollice, to the effect that C'apt.Wond's yacht had upset again today, and that a native had beendrowned in the accident.

"GermanSyrup"

The majority of well-rea- d phys-icians now believe that Consump-tion is a germ disease. In otherwords, instead of being in the con-

stitution itself it is caused by innu-merable small creatures living in thelungs having no business there andeating them away as caterpillars do

the leaves of trees.A Germ The phlegm that is

coughed up is thoseDisease. parts of the lungs

which have beengnawed off and destroyed. Theselittle bacilli, as the germs are called, are too small to be seen with thenaked eye, but they are very muchalive just the same, and enter thebody in our food, in the air webreathe, and through the pores ofthe skin. Thence they get into theblood atid finally arrive at the lungswhere they fastc2 and increase withfrightful rapidity. Then GermanSyrup comes in, loosens them, killsthem, expells them, heals the placesthey leave, and so nourish andsoothe that, in a short time consump-tives become germ-proo- f and well.

give father and mother, sisterand brother ; and oh, yes, 1

must give so and so a present, and I almost forgot so and sowho has been so kind to meduring the past year: andthen I must send away some-

thing to my friends in my oldhome. Dear me What shallit he? "Wont some one helpme out of my dilemma? "Why,of course we will. If youwill only take the trouble tostep inside, we'll show you somany new and useful articles, that you will wonder you everwere perplexed about it. Iadhere closely to goods thatare in my line of trade, but asyou well know there arethousands upon thousands ofarticles in that line.

1 have ready for this seasonlittle Pocket Lockkts madeof a Hawaiian dollar. To allappearances it is a dollar in-

tact ; but by pressing withyour thumbnail in a certainspot, up Hies the cover andthere before you is well, whatever yon see fit to putthere. . They are splendid tosend away with your photoinside, and then they are Ha-

waiian too, and you are alwayslooking for something parti-cularly Hawaiian. In all othergoods I am showing a verycomplete line ; particularly soof line Diamond Jewelry, andSolid Gold Watches.

Invitations hadbeen issued to all parts of the island, and nearly all invited responded touie invitation, the house being Ailedwith a very large and fashionablecrowd of guests, who were bounti-fully provided for at the toothsomefeast spread for their benefit on abeautifully decorated table, extend-ing through the whole length of theparlor and diningroom, and res-plendent with brightly shining silverware and sparkling glass-war- e.

Hen. It, D. Walhridsre nronosedthe health of the new-marri- couple, feelingly responded to by the bride--groom. The unusually numerous and

'

very handsome, costly presents weredisplayed in the telephone olllee andexcited universal admiration. A longlife, happiness, and prosperity to theirain maae one.

The American schooner Anna,Captain Williams, which arrived onthe 15th instant with a full cargo ofmerchandise, after long passage of22 days, during which she carried offher bowsprit, left for San Franciscoin ballast the 25th instant, after hav-ing repaired the damage sustained.

The special police officer IlenrvLong, who a short time ago madehimself famous by causing the arrestand conviction of the Police Justiceof Wailuku and compeers for in-

dulging in an innocent little game ofdraw poker, whereby the justice was"cinched" for $4.50 coin of therealm, was himself before the barthe other day, charged with assault- -'

ing and robbing a peaceful China-man on the highway close to Wai-luku one evening. He was acquit-ted for lack of evidence to prove hisguilt, but there are ugly rumorsafloat in connection with the affair, and if they be true he is not an orna-ment to the position be fills.

People are curious to know why itis that they cannot obtain postalmoney orders from the post office ofKahului the same day the mailsteamer leaves (Saturday), when themail does not close till. 4 o'clock p.m., while the more distant offices ofWailuku, Paia and Hamakuapokoissue orders up to 12 o'clock noon ofthe same day. This is rather anomal-ous, and has at times had the resultthat parties applying for orders atKahului, upon being refused haveobtained them at some one of theabove-mention- offices.

Dr. E. R. Holmes, who for thepast 9 months so ably has filled theposition as Government physician forMakawao, left for Honolulu, Satur-day, 28th inst., on his return to theStates. Maui residents regret tosay good-by- e to the efficient doctor, who by his genial manners has en-
