Family Reflection Time on the Gospel
Epiphany marks the moment when the news of Jesus as king begins to be revealed to the world. The magi, who were most likely ancient Persian priests, are called by mysterious forces to visit and honor a newborn child. This is significant because the magi were from a culture that would typically not have accepted the God of Israel. Yet, these men brought gifts as a way to pay homage to Jesus. On the Solemnity of the Epiphany, we experience awe at the gift of God in human form and the reign that he brings. ON THE WAY HOME FROM MASS:
Today we celebrate the Solemnity of the Epiphany of the Lord, and hear the story about the magi who come to see Jesus. I wonder what we already know about the magi. LIVING THE WORD
Go out in the evening to a place where you can see the stars. Describe how ancient people did not have elec-tricity, television, or phones. Imagine living as they did, in simple shelter, working hard just for food and necessities, and traveling many miles by foot or riding on an animal. Talk about how much you would depend on God. Think about the hope you would have in meeting a precious baby who would one day be a pow-erful ruler sent by God. Say a prayer, putting your on hopes and trusts in God.
