NORTH SHORE COACHING COLLEGE
College of Academic Excellence!
Term 2 Newsletter
“If you are not willing to learn, No one can help you.
If you are determined to learn, No one can stop you.”
Preparing students for a changing world must begin from a young age so that
today’s future adults can optimize their opportunities in the 21st Century. Today’s students need to learn to develop critical and creative thinking, communication, participation,
teamwork, personal and social skills.
North Shore’s learning programs are designed to contain numerous essential components aimed at schooling students in these areas and this begins at Kindy level and goes right through to Year 12.
Planning your senior pathway - In the second semester that is fast approaching, our
Year 10 students need to decide on future senior subjects, subjects that will assist them through to ter-tiary studies.
Our advice would be:
1. Students should take the time to think about their career goals and then select
subjects that will enhance tertiary studies; and 2. Students should be realistic when thinking about becoming job ready and opt for
subjects that they have done well in (that they find both interesting and challenging).

Enrolment for Term 3 is open For current students who are returning, parents are reminded that re-
enrolment is not automatic. Please act promptly for re-enrolment so that your children will secure
spots in classes on your preferred day (as classes fill up quickly).
Enrolment fees may be paid on-line, by telephone or even in person—
The on-line and phone facilities are aimed to make this process quick and hassle-free, saving you time that is so hard to find these days, so
please consider these ‘easy’ options when making fee payments.
On-line payments only caters for full term enrolment with Early Bird discounts. Any other types of payments, please pay over the counter.
For on-line payments, please do the following:
1) Go to www.north-shore.com.au; and
2) Select ‘QLD’ (top left corner); and 3) Select ‘ONLINE PAYMENT’ under student;
4) Please ensure that you have a copy of your child’s ‘student number’ together with your 4 digit
pin number (Please phone North Shore staff who can re-issue your pin number to you to complete this process).
Please note that payments would be appreciated as early as possible because there is a 3 business
days clearance time for cleared payments.
Wow! North Shore students have really tapped in to their creative sides to compose such beautiful
Mother’s day Poetry. We received an enormous number of quite moving poems and this made judging very difficult.
We congratulate all those students who participated, the Mum’s should be tremendously proud of their
loving children showing appreciation in the form of such sweet poems about their mothers.
We take this opportunity however to point out that some students appeared to have rushed in driven by the excitement of the occasion and had not complied with the competition criteria. We ask that
Mums, when talking about the poems with their children to please mention the need to follow the in-
structions when composing their poem for the best chance at winning a prize! This year, the many entries in the Middle and Upper Primary Division had to be divided in to 2 catego-
ries, these were:
1) Middle Primary (Year 4)
2) Middle Primary and Upper Primary (Years 5 & 6)
Please see the attached Mother’s Day Winners flyer.

Online Help for Students Please be aware that North Shore provides students with online help with their studies.
Students from Level 3 to 6 can use the ‘Student Area’ on the North Shore website to practise: 1) Spelling Words 3) Extra Maths questions
2) Vocabulary 4) Times tables
Parents, we urge you to make 1 or 2 regular ‘times’ during each week when your child can log in to take
advantage of this help that is aimed at improving each child’s abilities for the coming week’s classes. You may need to assist your child to log in and you will need his/her Student Number and password to
log in. Please contact North Shore Staff if you need these details.
Fastrain Homework Online Help Since the launch of the ‘Fastrain Online’ service last term aimed at
providing students with homework help, feedback has been tremen-dous and it has all been positive!
Parents have informed that they are impressed with how user-
friendly the service is to access and use, they have reported that stu-
dents are enthusiastic about Fastrain Online! So, attention all Year 4 and 5 students…see what all the fuss is about
and log in to the Student Area of the North Shore website to access
this service that is here to help YOU. We are sure that on your first try, you will be happy to use Fastrain
Online to help with Maths and General Ability homework that will
assist you to complete your work wherever you are and at a pace you
find preferable. So go for it!
Bus Stop in front of Principal Campus at Upper Mt Gravatt
A number of parents have reported that some parents/carers are just
‘dropping off or picking up’ their child/children at this Bus Stop.
This is a Notice to the parents/carers doing so that this practice is:
1) Illegal—drivers can be booked by Council parking Officers if caught; and
2) Very dangerous—the stopping parent/carer obstructs the traffic flow
along Logan Road and it blocks the North Shore entry driveway pre venting others from entering; and
3) Potentially can cause an accident—when they drive off into the path of
other parents trying to enter North Shore entry driveway. Some parents have informed that they will be reporting the ‘Bus Stop drop
off/pick up’ practice to Brisbane City Council. If you are one of the parents/
carers that is doing this ‘drop off’’, we urge you not to do this. Getting booked
and having to pay a fine will be expensive and unwelcomed, we are sure.
We ask that you manage your time to be prompt when collecting your
child/children after classes are finished. With the start of Winter, the days are shorter and students may become anxious if left to wait for
long periods.
If you think that you may be late, please take the time to call North
Shore staff at least 30 minutes before the classes finish so that our staff will have the time to let your child/children know they will need to wait
for you.
You will know that the classes are located throughout the campus, some rooms are farther away from the administration area, for safety reasons,
please if you know in advance that you will be late, tell your child/
children to wait in the administration area If you are arriving late.

Car Park—Basement 1 and 2 at Upper Mt Gravatt
Our Parking areas are in Basement 1 and Basement 2, they are often quite full during drop off and pick
up times, the parking facilities are provided for parents/carers and for North Shore staff and teachers. North Shore staff and teachers need to be at the campus to deliver services to students, they therefore
need to park their cars for hours at a time.
Parents on most occasions need the Basement 1 or 2 parking areas to drop off students and in some in-
stances to briefly attend the administration area. We have had a number of parents make complaints about some parents/carers sitting in their cars in
Basement 1 and 2 parking areas for long periods after their child/children have gone up to class. Many
are using mobile phones to make lengthy calls and some are simply sitting in the cars talking with other family members.
We ask that Parents/carers who are doing this to stop this routine
and to leave parking spots vacant as soon as you have dropped
your child/children off.
You would be aware that classes are structured to commence and conclude at defined times and we
believe that students receive the optimum educational experience if this can happen on time and without interruptions.
It appears that a number of students arrive at North Shore late.
Arriving late has the following consequences:
1) Your child//children get to start class late and may not finish the class work because of the late arrival; and
2) The other students lose teaching time because of interruptions.
3) Your child/children don’t feel happy being made the centre of attention when entering class after it has started.
Student Late arrivals
Another concern that was raised by both parents and teachers is the habit that some parents/carers have
of standing outside the classrooms looking in through the glass partitions/windows and in some cases waving, smiling or even trying to talk with the their child/children who is/are inside the class.
If you are one of these parents/carers, we ask that you stop this conduct as it is not helping your child/
children to focus on the lesson that the teacher is trying to deliver to all of the students including your
child/children. Please, if you wish to do the best thing by your child, drop him/her/them off and leave them in the care of
our staff who after all are diligently carrying out the educational process that you are seeking that your
child/children receive(s).

Cover your cough or sneeze. Cover your mouth and nose with your sleeve or a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Toss your used tissue in the bin and wash your hands.
Wash your hands. Wash your hands of-ten with soap and water or use an alco-hol-based hand cleaner.

YOU! Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth. If you touch surfaces with the flu virus, you can get the flu by touch-ing your eyes, nose or mouth.
Stay home if you are sick. Flu viruses go wherever you go when you are infected. Stay at home and check with your healthcare provider when needed.
Mobiles & Electronic Devices
Mobile Phones and other electronic devices are NOT to be used dur-ing class times under any circumstances. Parents who need to notify their children of any important issue are asked to phone the Campus reception number.
Students who use phones in class will be given a warning. Repeat-ed use of the phone may result in confiscation until the end of the lesson.
