The internet has become a part of everyday life.Self-promotion is the action of promoting or publicizing oneself or one's activities.

The web is a powerful marketing tool and evaluation tool that can be used to advertise and promote businesses, services and products through individual’s websites, news and blog sites and via social media.

The Art of Online Self Promotion

Through online, we can sell our work, exhibit the work, can be participated in competitions, can do jobs, can built portfolio (A portfolio is an important tool for promoting your work in the creative industries. You can create an online portfolio in the form of a website)

Web based assessments

The use of internet as a medium for psychological assessment holds great potential. It facilitates school counseling, training and promoting team decision making.

The online assessments may be administered either in a traditional manner in which the items of the paper-pencil questionnaire is presented as a computerized form or through software.

The results may be obtained by the data being interpreted through e-mail or may be automatically scored by the computer software.

The first internet based multiple-choice tests that emerged, measured intellectual abilities.

ONLINE EXAMINATIONS

GATE

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an all-India examination that primarily tests the comprehensive understanding of various undergraduate subjects in engineering and science. GATE is conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science and seven Indian Institute of Technology.

The GATE score of a candidate reflects the relative performance level of a candidate.

The score is used for admissions to various post graduate education programs. It is one of the most competitive examinations in India.

GATE qualified candidates are also eligible for the award of Junior Research Fellowship in CSIR Laboratories and CSIR sponsored projects.

Eligibility for GATE

Bachelor’s degree holders in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture and those who are in the final year of such programs

Master’s degree holders in any branch of Science/ Mathematics/ Statistics/ Computer Applications or equivalent and those who are in the final year of such programs.

Duration and Examination type

The examination is of 3 hours duration and contains a total of 65 questions worth a maximum of 100 marks.

From 2014 onwards, the examination for all the papers is carried out in an online Computer Based Test (CBT) mode where the candidates are shown the questions in a random sequence on a computer screen.

The questions consist of multiple choice questions.

Candidates are provided with blank paper sheets for rough work and these have to be returned after the examination.

At the end of the 3-hour window, the computer automatically closes the screen from further actions.

GRE

The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is a standardized test that is an admissions requirement for most graduate schools in the United States created and administered by Educational Testing Service.

The exam aims to measure verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, analytical writing, and critical thinking skills that have been acquired over a long period of time.

The structure of the computer-based GRE revised General Test consists of five sections.

The first section is always the analytical writing section involving separately timed issue and argument tasks.

The next four sections consist of two verbal reasoning sections, two quantitative reasoning sections, and either an experimental or research section.

These five sections may occur in any order.

Unlike the computer adaptive test before August 2011, the GRE revised General Test is a multistage test.

GRE and GMAT

The GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test) is a computer-adaptive standardized test in mathematics and the English language for measuring aptitude to succeed academically in graduate business studies.

Business schools commonly use the test as one of many selection criteria for admission into an MBA program.

However, as of the 2014–2015 admissions season, most business schools accept both tests equally. Either a GMAT score, or a GRE score, can be submitted for an application to an MBA program.

Business schools also accept either score for their other Master's and PhD programs.

The Intel Science Talent Search (Intel STS) is a research-based science competition in the United States for high school seniors.

It has been referred to as "the nations oldest and most prestigious pre college science competition.

President George H. W. Bush called the competition the "Super Bowl of science” during his speech honoring the 1991 Winners.

Each year, millions of students worldwide compete in local science fairs. Winners go on to participate in Intel ISEF (Intel International Science and Engineering Fair).

INTEL SCIENCE PROGRAMME

Page 11: NINU

Uniting these top young scientific minds, the Intel ISEF provides the opportunity to finalists to display their talent on an international stage for judging by doctoral-level scientists.

The Intel ISEF provides awards of about $5 million in prizes and scholarships annually.

Page 12: NINU

Since 1998, Intel has sponsored this venerated competition. The Intel Science Talent Search continues to inspire innovation in science, technology, engineering and maths, and to recognize notable achievements by the next generation of scientific leader.

The applicant pool is first narrowed to three hundred semi-finalists, who along with their schools receive cash prizes.

From there, the top 40 candidates are selected as Intel STS finalists and invited to Washington D.C to attend a week-long celebration of science and compete for top honors.

The Global Good Medal rewards finalists who demonstrate great scientific potential through their passion to make a difference, most notably by seeking solutions to real-world problems.

Rewarding excellence

This year, the Intel Science Talent Search features a new awards structure that triples the prize money for top winners in three categories.

Basic Research Award First Prize: $150,000 Second Prize: $75,000 Third Prize: $35,000Global Good Award First Prize: $150,000 Second Prize: $75,000 Third Prize: $35,000Innovation Award First Prize: $150,000 Second Prize: $75,000 Third Prize: $35,000

The remaining 31 finalists each receive $7,500.

GOOGLE SCIENCE FAIR

The Google Science Fair is an online science competition sponsored by Google, Lego, Virgin Galactic, National Geographic and Scientific American.

The first ever Google Science Fair was announced in January 2011 and judging occurred in July 2011.

The competition is open to 13 to 18 year old students around the globe, who formulate a hypothesis, perform an experiment, and present their results through online.

All students must have an internet connection and a free Google account to participate.

Page 15: NINU

The projects must be in English, German, Italian, Spanish or French.

The final submission must include ten sections which includes the summary, an "About me” page, the steps of the project, about works etc.

For fresher's the Google science site contains a number of highlighted guest interviews, each well established and prominent in their field of science.

Competition is based on three age categories, 13-14, 15-16 and 16-18.

Various awards given are National Geographic Explorer Awards (honors a project in natural science),

Scientific American Innovator Awards (honors a project in pure science category),

Lego Builder Awards (honors who use innovative hands on approach to solve greatest engineering challenges),

Virgin Galactic Pioneer Awards (honors a project in the field of physics and space)

The Grand Prize Winner will receive $50,000 in scholarship, the scholarship value will be divided equally among the team mates

The 2014 Google Science Fair Grand Prize was won by three girls from Ireland. Their project was entitled “Combating the Global Food Crisis: Diazatroph Bacteria as a Cereal Crop Growth Promoter”

The 13-14 age category was won by Mihir Garimella (14) from Pittsburgh, a project titled 'Fruit-fly Inspired Robots’.

Hayley Todesco (17) of Canada won the 17-18 age category with her project titled 'Cleaning up Oil Sands Waste.'
