    Ansley Tuesday Afternoon Golf Tour

The 2006 ATAG Tour met its first weather challenge this pastTuesday when the match had to be suspended after only the

first two or three holes when a heavy rain and a cracklinglightning display forced the players to retreat to the MensGrill to get an early start on the socializing. After about a 45minute delay, 14 of the original 16 players returned to thecourse to complete the match while the other two withdrew dueto time constraints. Taking on the back nine on this protracteddays match, which ended at approximately 8:30 pm, were thefollowing reassembled teams:

9 UNDER TAKES THE BACK NINE INCLOSE MATCH! GUTT DQS!

The Team 2 fivesome ofDoug Gooding, P.J. Wade, DannyMorris, Ron Majors, and Tim Martin combined for a 9 underscore which was just good enough to edge out the Team 3fivesome who came in at 8 under. Having to pony up was theforlorn Team 1 who was abandoned by team mate Mike Gutton # 15 and had to finish as a threesome with a score of1 over(when informed of the amount of their deficit, they waived theright for a 4th draw partner). Apparently the beleaguered Gutt, winner of two of the last four Low Net purses, lost his focus

after the rain delay and, after firing two off the tee into thepond, drove off in the cart he was sharing with Benning, resulting in an immediate disqualification. He has been fined$2 (to be deposited into next weeks pool), and a Letter OfReprimand has been placed in his file.

P.J. WADE WINS BOTH LOW NETAND LOW GROSS! CORRIGAN SAILSTO NEW HEIGHTS! BATELAAN HASA BAD DAY!

    P. J. Wade followed last weeks 37 on the front nine with a 39onthe back which was good enough to win Low Gross as wellas collect the $16 prize money for the Low Net at 2 under, narrowly edging out Bill Benning, Doug Gooding, and DonNichols who finished at a net 1 under. This marked thesecond time this year when one player captured both honorsthe other being Henry Sawyers career round earlier this year. This weeks agony anddefeat award went to twenty eighthandicapper Frank Corrigan who completed his bad day byblistering his way to a scorching 59, tying the all time ATAGrecord set by Bill Benning in 2005. Also having a bad day wasnine handicapper RichardBatelaan who had his worst roundof the season after following his 40 on last weeks front ninewith a 10 over 46 on the back nine.

GOODING HAS SHOT OF THE DAY!OTHERS HAVE NOTABLE SHOTS!

Sixteen handicapper Doug Gooding earned Shot of theDay honors by holing out his sand shot on # 17--this after

landing in the trap after his shot from the bunker on the otherside of the green, effectively giving him a double sandy parfor the hole. Receiving honorable mention were CraigSellner for his 25 foot putt for parnet eagle on #15, ScottyGreene for his approach shot on #14 which landed just outsidethe leather to enable him to make birdie-net eagle, DonNichols for his 285 yard opening tee shot on # 10 (o.k., so itreceived a free ride down the cart path), and Doug Healy, whoamused his playing partners by maneuvering his opening teeshot under the bridge and onto the fairway to enable him tomake par-net birdie.

BIRDIES SCARCE!The back nine gave up only two birdies on the dayone eachby P. J. Wade and Scotty Greene who added to theircollective total in the Birdie Club.

    OTHER TIDBITS:

Dick Pease made his first appearance of the 2006 seasonand, despite not being able to resume play after the rain delay, made the effort to drive out to the course and hand theCommissioner his $1 contribution to the Low Net Purse.Upon hearing this, Danny Morris nominated Pease to be the firstcandidate to be considered for Sportsman Of The Year Award.Earlier, in the Grill, the newer ATAGers had mistakenly assumedPease was an ATAG Pledge and ordered him to bring popcorn tothe table (which he did).

Scotty Greene announced that he made a Hole in One lastSunday on # 12 at Settindown Creek, the second ATAGer toaccomplish such a feat at the Creek within a 10 day period.

This again no doubt shows the caliber of play on the ATAG Tour.Greene informed the Commissioner of his accomplishment, witnessed by fellow ATAGer Andy Tyber, in a rambling 300-

word e-mail message. The short version is that it was a 205 yardshot with a hybrid4 iron. At the beginning of the days match,Greene, who is a member of the Clubs Hole In One Club, presented a brand new Pro Vi-1 Titleist golf ball to thoseATAGers present who were members of the same Club tooffset the $4 hit to their club bill.

Thats it for this weeks match. Next week we take on thefriendly front nine when an out of state former ATAGer willjoin us. See you then!
