PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

Welcome to week 3 of the term. It’s flying by!

Our lockdown last week was very successful. All children were accounted for and the

office notified within 6 minutes. Parents, if you are in the school grounds when a

lockdown is called, please go to the nearest building. Likewise, if you are here when an

evacuation is called, please go to the evacuation area on the basketball court or oval.

BER Classroom Doors – Please remember that when dropping off or picking up students

in the BER building, we need to use our class room external doors. Mrs Mattingley and

other staff often have private meetings in the offices at the end of the BER building and

these doors are for staff only for this reason. Thank you for your support and

understanding.

Some of our students have been bringing chewing gum to school. Please remind your

children that it is against school rules to have chewing gum at school.

I have had complaints from families that cars are being parked, or are stopping, in front

of the bus shelter. This is dangerous, and could lead to a serious accident. Please don’t

park or stop there.

Mother’s Day is almost here! Our celebrations start on Friday morning, please come

along for breakfast. I hope all Mums and Carers have a lovely day on Sunday,

Regards,

Susan

WE WANT OUR STUDENTS TO TELL US WHAT THEY THINK!

We value student voice as a means to improving student engagement, wellbeing and quality instruction and are conducting a survey to find out what your child thinks of our school. The Attitudes to School Survey is an annual student survey offered by the Department of Education and Training to assist schools in gaining an understanding of students' perceptions and experience of school. Our school will use the survey results to plan programs and activities to improve your child's schooling experience. Students from Year 4-6 at our school will participate in the survey. Your child will complete the survey online during school hours using a purpose built secure online survey tool. It is important to note that we are not in any way “testing” your child.

Your child will be provided with a unique login to complete the survey. The student login is an assigned identifier that may be used to link data for statistical and research purposes only. All responses to the survey are kept anonymous in the response file. Personal identification data will not be recorded in the survey response file. This ensures that the confidentiality of your child’s responses is protected at all times.

This year the Attitudes to School survey will be conducted at our school between Thursday 1st May and Wednesday 15th May. The sur-vey only takes 20 minutes to complete and occurs during your child's class time. The survey results will be reported back to the school before the end of term 2. All survey data that is made available in reports are for groups of students only so that no individual student can be identified.

If you would like more information, please speak to your child’s teacher or visit: http://www.education.vic.gov.au/school/teachers/management/improvement/Pages/performsurveyat.aspx

Student Medication

If your child has previously had medication at school, to continue

administering medication a Medication Authority Form must be

completed for each medication and child.

Woolworths Earn & Learn 2019

We are, once again, participating in the Woolworths Earn & Learn

program.

Through this program we will be able to get new educational resources

for our school and all we need you to do is shop for your groceries at

Woolworths.

From Wednesday 1st May—Tuesday, 25th June we are collecting

stickers. Place the Woolworths Earn & Learn Stickers onto a Woolworths

Earn & Learn Sticker Sheet and when it’s complete, the Sticker Sheet

can be dropped into the Collection Box either at your local Woolworths

or at our office. Any incomplete Sticker Sheets or loose stickers can be

handed into the school office or any of our local Woolworths

supermarkets.

HELPING YOUR CHILDREN WITH MATHEMATICS

There are a number of general principles which you might keep in mind

when you are helping your children.

Help our child’s teacher. Your child’s teacher is vitally interested in

your child’s mathematical development. Talk you the teacher

about how your child is going in mathematics and find out whether

there are any ways that can help your child. Supporting teachers if

they recommend any homework or home-based activities is

highly desirable. Speaking positively about the school and

teachers builds a positive feeling in the child about school and

learning.

HELPING HANDS —

PLASTIC BOTTLE LIDS

DONATIONS

The Junior School Council like to thank the school community

for all of the plastic bottle lids that have been received so far.

We want to let everyone we are still collecting the lids, it has

been great to hear stories of students asking grandparents

and to their family members to collect bottle lids from their

homes and workplaces. Some people have even asked their

local cafes to collect lids, this is great!

We are excited to see how many more lids we can get

throughout the year and the difference we can make as a

school!

Thank you from the JSC
