January 2016 Christmas Eve at the Shelter 2015 PASADENA COVENANT CHURCH Our goal for Christmas at the Shelter 2015 was to provide one festive holiday meal for our homeless guests at our Bad Weather Shelter. Instead, through the amazing generosity of our congregation, we provided not one, but three holiday meals: Christmas Eve dinner, Christmas morning breakfast, and Boxing Day (Dec. 26th) dinner. Approx. 70 members contributed, from our young kids who put together 144 gift bags to hand out, to those who donated, shopped, cooked, set up cots, dished up food, and greeted our guests. Our guests came back for seconds… or thirds… of the yummy homemade dishes that were provided. Many, many thanks for all those who were a part of making this special holiday celebration happen. Christmas Eve at the Shelter 2015

P A S A D E N A C O V E N A N T C H U R C H

Our goal for Christmas at the Shelter 2015 was to provide one festive holiday meal for our

homeless guests at our Bad Weather Shelter. Instead, through the amazing generosity of our

congregation, we provided not one, but three holiday meals: Christmas Eve dinner,

Christmas morning breakfast, and Boxing Day (Dec. 26th) dinner. Approx. 70 members

contributed, from our young kids who put together 144 gift bags to hand out, to those who

donated, shopped, cooked, set up cots, dished up food, and greeted our guests. Our guests

came back for seconds… or thirds… of the yummy homemade dishes that were provided.

Many, many thanks for all those who were a part of making this special holiday celebration

happen.

2016 Ministry Opportunity: Serving Pasadena's Homeless Through Pasadena’s Bad Weather Shelter (BWS)

Pasadena Covenant helps man the BWS on Wednesday evenings and we still need help for these dates: Jan. 6th, Jan. 27th; Feb. 17th and Feb. 24th.

Each night we need 12 volunteers to help anytime from 6:15-9:00pm, so even if you need to arrive late or need to leave early, there will be opportunities for you to help (the 12 volunteers can be a group, family, and/or individuals). Trained, professional staff will be on site to help direct volunteers.

For those who are unable to volunteer to man the shelter, you can still help by donating cooked food.

To help or for more info, contact Wayne Walker at (626) 429-5120 or email: [email protected] (on the subject line put: BWS).

Cross-Cultural Communication Specialists’ Praise & Prayer Requests

Tim and Wakako Clark serve with SIM in Japan: 1. Church planting with Fuchinobe Community Church, a congregation with vision for

something uncommon in Japan: to see whole

families turning to Jesus. Together. 2. Introducing Alpha International’s marriage and parenting courses to churches throughout Japan, seeking to equip churches to see families and society transformed by Christ.

From Tim and Wakako: We look forward to seeing our Pasadena Covenant friends when we visit California. We’ll be at worship January 17th and 24th and will have “drop-in” times at the Corner House to visit with friends on January 16th, from 10:00am-1:00pm, and on January 22nd, from 1:00-4:00pm.

February 4, 2016 we’ll return to Japan from Nebraska and would appreciate your prayers: 1. To continue finding churches interested in reaching many non-Christians through The Marriage

Course and Alpha outreach. 2. To see our church plant develop strongly in 2016 with many friends responding to Christ. 3. That we'll have many opportunities to pray for friends in ways that will help them experience

God’s love and power (praying with non-Christians when they’re dealing with a health or work crisis, for example). Many friends need some sort of experience of God in order to become interested in learning about Christianity.

4. For our boys’ education. We’re thankful they’ve been learning a lot of English here in the US this fall; we’re now developing a plan to continue their English education while they’re in Japanese schools.

5. As Mac starts first grade in Japan in April 2016 we pray for opportunities to share Christ with many in his school and would love to see this community experience God’s transforming power over the next few years.

Journey IN the Promised Land: We’re Here!

God's Big Welcome

Sunday Mornings at 10:30am

We've arrived!!! Last year we studied the Journey TO the promised land—stories from the Old

Testament of how God led his people. Now the excitement begins: we've arrived in the Promised

Land, and JESUS is here! The staff & kids are eager and ready to begin our Journey IN the

Promised Land: Jesus Welcomes Us. This is an exciting month as we begin the story of Jesus' life

and ministry.

Mighty Memorizers

Mighty Memorizers is a program to encourage kids to learn one memory verse per month, related

to their Sunday School lessons. At the end of the year we will honor our memorizers in a big

celebration. Our January memory verse is "Jesus said, 'Follow me, and I will make you fish for

people.'” -Matt 4:19. Take time to discuss the verse as a family and what it means. Challenge the

whole family to learn this important message together. Kids can recite their verse to any of their

Sunday School group leaders any time throughout the month.

Door of Hope is a local ministry helping families transition out of homelessness. Each month,

PCC hosts a simple party for the kids at Door of Hope to celebrate the month's birthdays. It's an

easy, simple way to support this important ministry and build relationships with the families there,

and one your whole family can do together. If you'd like to be a part of our birthday club team

(providing pizza or cupcakes 3 or 4 times during the year) contact Vikki Randall at

[email protected].

For more information about upcoming events, please contact our Pastor for Youth Ministries, Dave Rinker, at [email protected].

Family Advent Breakfast On Sunday, December 6th, we gathered in the gym for a good time starting with a family

breakfast served by our students and then moved on to make an Advent wreath craft. Advent

calendars were provided to help guide family devotions through the Advent season.
