Science CeLABration The Y6 Science Learning to Lead Team have been working

with Miss Bishop to organise this new science competition

and celebration event. All the children in Year 1 -6 have been

invited to enter the competition to devise an experiment or

investigation connected with their science topic:

Year 1 - Seasons

Year 2 - Animals including humans

Year 3 - Rocks and Fossils

Year 4 - States of matter

Year 5 - Properties of materials

Year 6 - Light and Electricity

They have until the 27th November to complete their investigation/experiment. This could be in the

form of a poster, a model or a video clip etc. Class teachers will judge the entries and one child per

class will be selected for the CeLABration event taking place on Wednesday 4th December at 2pm.

This will be a fun and exciting science celebration for the winners. Any support you can give at home

to encourage your children to enter, would be greatly appreciated.

Attendance

Well done to everyone who was entered into the draw for 100% attendance. This

week the lucky winners were Malone in RB who chose a fluorescent cap and Samuel

C in 1B who won a dinosaur game.

Whole school attendance this week was 94.5% - let’s hope for the magic 96% next

week….

Sports Update

On Monday 21st October, 20 of our children participated

in the final week of an intense month of tag rugby, that

included 24 teams from across the local area. The event

took place at Broad Plain Rugby Club in front of

hundreds of enthusiastic and competitive parents, with

the winners progressing to a county-level competition at

Bristol Grammar School in March.

Headley Park B had a tough first week of rugby; however they still qualified for the top division

against many of South Bristol’s top rugby school teams. They won third place and bronze medal in

the entire competition - a brilliant achievement and recognition for their hard work in training.

Headley Park A managed to remain undefeated throughout the entire competition; in fact, they won

every game they played in. At times, the opposition struggled to keep pace with our outstanding

young individuals, with the team averaging 7 tries a game. They were announced as competition

winners, maintaining the school record of having won the local-level league every year since 2008.

Team Captain Zac Bryant said: “I’m so proud of my team, especially the girls who got stuck in from

the first whistle! Everyone gave 110% even in the friendlies, which shows how determined they are

to win every point available. We’re looking forward to representing South Bristol in March and

hopefully going one better than last year’s team, who finished 6th in the West of England."

Online Safety

New Screen Time

Campaign Launched

You may have seen some of

the recent adverts by internetmatters.org targeting the amount of time some young people spend

online and encouraging responsible online behaviour. This article explains in a bit more detail the

thinking behind this effective campaign in an attempt to help protect and improve young people's

mental health.

Children in Need – Crazy Hair Day On Friday 15th November, the Learning to Lead

Fundraising Team is organising a day of crazy hair fun

to raise money for BBC Children in Need. For a donation of £1 children

can come to school with any kind of crazy hair or Pudsey ears if they

prefer. All kinds of wigs, hair dye and crazy styles and accessories are allowed.

Purple Learners Go Wild with Bristol Zoo 40 lucky ‘purple learners’ were drawn from the jar at the end

of last term and got to get close up to some extraordinary

creatures from Bristol Zoo. It was a really informative and

exciting session and we are very grateful to the volunteers at

Bristol Zoo for giving their time and engaging the children so

well.

‘Purple Learning’ stars are given to children every time they

show growth mindset – determination and resilience and

a positive attitude to learning. The stars are collected

in a jar in Praise Assembly and names are drawn at the

end of each term for a very special treat.

The winning purple learners this time were: Matthew in

6C; Lily in 5G; Jaykay in 4T; Duffy in 4T; Willow in 4P; Jude in 1B; Sam in 4T; Lennon in 4P;

Jenson in 3O; Essie in 1B; Teddy in 1B; Florence B in 1H; Winney-Fleur in 1H; Miley in 2S;

Dougie in 1H; Livie in 1B; Alfie in 3O; Alfie H in 4P; Owen in 4T; Tallulah in 3O; Marley in 3O; Jax in 1B; Issy in

4P; Kaden in 6C; Mya M in 6B; Thomas in 6B; Cordell in 5W; Freddy P in 6B; Ashton in 5G; Freddie D in 6B;

Mason in 5W; Zoe in 6B; Lexie in 6C; Finnley in 4T; Edy in 6B; Shenna in 5W; Riley-Scott in 5G; Stan in 6B;

Freyah in 6C and Mya D in 6B.

Lost Property There seems to be a lot of lost property accumulating every week – we do our best to return lost

items to their rightful owner so please make sure everything is labelled with your child’s full name.

Please look through the boxes and trolleys on the playground to reclaim any lost items. Anything left

unclaimed will eventually be thrown away.

Parking Update We now have 4 parking buddies to help remind everyone to

park safely and not on the yellow lines. We have a rota of

children and staff to put them out every day – please bear with us while we get this fully

established. We did notice a white Vauxhall Astra squeezing in between two of them on the first day

and on one afternoon when we forgot to put them out, lots of people parked on the lines again. The

buddies are just reminders – please note there should be NO parking on the yellow lines at any time

– for the safety of our children. Thank you for your support.

Cupcake Decorating Workshop at the school on Mon 2nd

December 3:30-5:00.

We still have places available for this – please ring the office if you would like

your child to attend.

Each child attending will get 5 cupcakes each to decorate - one to eat on the afternoon and then 4

to take home in a gift box to share with their family (all nut free). Each child will also be given a

cake-decorating certificate and a sheet with the recipe for the cakes to make again at home.

The cost will be £10 per child, payable on ParentPay when it is set up. The workshop is suitable for

children in Year 3 and above and is limited to a maximum of 20 children. If more than 20 want to

attend, we will draw names out of a hat.
