When he sat at the table, he could hardly hold his spoon; he liked to talk and he took forever to eat his supper. His son and his son’s wife lost their pa- tience and finally made the old man sit in a corner behind the stove. They brought his food in an earthenware bowl. He looked sadly in the direction of the table and his eyes filled with tears. One day his hands trembled so much that he dropped his bowl and it fell to the floor and broke. The young woman scolded him but he said nothing. She bought him a wooden bowl and from then on he had to eat out of it. As they were sitting there one day, the little four year old grandson was on the floor playing with some pieces of wood. “What are you doing?” his father asked. The child replied: “I’m making a trough for both of you to eat out of when I’m grown up.” The husband and wife looked at each other and burst into tears. After that they brought the old grandfa- ther back to the table. He ate with them from then on, chatted merrily and took his time. This story is an example of how much our children look to us for guidance— we need to make sure that the way we act is in line with what Paul teaches us in Titus 2: 7 - 8 “In every- thing set them an example by doing what is good. In your teaching show integri- ty, seriousness and sound- ness of speech that cannot be condemned…” Together with endurance to stay on course, the school will go forward into the next decade with God’s strength and wis- dom. Dear Parents

RUN WITH ENDURANCE, RACE WITH JOY!

This is the 80th Anniversary celebration theme for St Hilda’s Schools (Primary & Second-ary) as well as St Hilda’s Church.

The primary and secondary schools had our combined cel-ebrations on 11 July at Marina Mandarin. It was a memorable evening—bringing together for-mer and present principals, vice-principals, staff and stu-dents of the two schools, ex-Hildans who had graduated from St Hilda’s Schools in Cey-lon Road and Tampines, mem-bers from St Hilda’s Church and Chapel of Christ the Re-demeer (CCR) as well as par-ents. Most important of all, the celebrations reminded us of God’s faithfulness and grace toward the two schools.

It was awesome to know that so many generations of Hil-dans have passed through the door of St Hilda’s Schools and they are now contributing to the society at large. Praise be to God!

As we continue this journey , let us not forget to pass on the Legacy of our Founder, Arch-deacon Graham White. The mission for us is to ensure that each Hildan is developed in his/her body, mind and spirit to be a God-fearing citizen for so-

ciety. To do this, we as staff, students and parents need to be good role models for one another.

I am reminded of this story tak-en from The Brothers Grimm

entitled, “The Old Man and His Grandson.”

There was once an old man who was almost blind and deaf and whose hands trembled. When he sat at the table, he could hardly hold his spoon; he liked to talk and he took forever to eat his supper. His son and his son’s wife lost their pa-tience and finally made the old man sit in a corner behind the stove. After that they

brought the old grandfa-ther back to the table. He ate with them from then on, chatted merrily and took his time.

This story is an example of how much our children look to us for guidance—we need to make sure that the way we act is in line with what Paul teaches us in Titus 2: 7 - 8 “In every-thing set them an example by doing what is good. In your teaching show integri-ty, seriousness and sound-ness of speech that cannot be condemned…”

Together with endurance to stay on course, the school will go forward into the next decade with God’s strength and wis-dom.
