PRODUCTION
12th, 13th & 14th September
2018
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) will be introduced in our region over the next six months. The National Disability Insurance Authority (NDIA) has the responsibility for this important program. A number of Emerson families have already been involved in NDIA interviews. It is essential that families and Emerson staff work closely together to ensure that all students re-ceived first class opportunities during their school years and in their adult life.
One of the fundamental issues is that present and future students should have the opportunity to travel to Emerson by a government provided bus. Without this essential provision, the majority of students would not be able to access Emerson School. I will be working very hard over the next 18 months to make sure that Emerson School continues to be enabled to provide free transport to Emerson School. I ask all parents to work together with me in this endeavour.
On next Friday, 22
nd June, our Department of Education and Training (DET) will
be conducting briefing sessions to bus operators and another briefing session for parents. These sessions will be located in The Emerson Room at our school. Please see following two pages.

INVITATION TO REGISTER INTEREST
As the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) comes into place, the Australian Government
wants to hear directly from NDIS participants, parents, carers, school communities and transport
providers about how we could best support transport to and from school for NDIS participants into
the future.
The Department of Social Services, state and territory governments and the National Disability
Insurance Agency (NDIA) are working together to understand if and how supported school
transport could be delivered in the NDIS.
To help inform future options, we are holding a series of discussion forums with parents, carers
and representatives of the school community to discuss what’s needed to support children who
have a disability to travel to school under the NDIS.
We will also be holding workshops with the services and supports delivering supported school
transport, such as transport providers, disability services, advocates and other interested stake-
holders.
Current supported school transport arrangements will remain the responsibility of state and terri-
tory governments until all governments have considered the outcomes of the consultation and
agreed on an approach.

JUNIOR SCHOOL BIRTHDAYS
Value of the Week
We will be continue our studies on the value, Fairness, next week.
Fairness is about giving everyone what they need. Often people are confused about what fairness means.
Some people think fairness is about treating everyone the same. But we are not all the same. Everyone has their
own unique strengths and needs. For example short people may need a longer handle on their duster to reach
high areas when dusting than a taller person.

Southern Melbourne NDIS
Family and Parent Information Sessions
The NDIS is rolling out in the Southern Melbourne Area in September this year. Your school is in this Area. The NDIA, in partnership with DET, will be presenting information sessions for school communities. The presentation will cover how to access the NDIS, the role of the Local Area Coordination (LAC) partner, and how the school can assist. There will be an opportunity for you to ask questions. The session is open to students with a disability (if appropriate) and/or their families/guardians and school staff.
