A New Horizon

‘Leave your association better than you found it.’

This was the mission statement of Mr. Murli Dhar Agrawal, when he took over as The President of Bombay Management Association on 15th May 2017. The association since its inception in 1954 has pioneered efforts to help enhance managerial effectiveness and improve the standards of Business Management in India. It is widely regarded as one of the best management associations in India resulting in over 1.50 lakh managers trained with BMA. It’s only apt that the new President could only add on to this rich legacy through his efforts, experience and belief – a belief that he can affect a positive change after observing recent challenges.

As the new journey began, plans were drawn on how to improve the organization by growing membership, improving technology, add meetings and revise programs and more.

Efforts were being made to deliver high caliber programs. The program team was asked to provide a full developed curriculum for 6 months in advance. These programs were loaded with rich contents clubbed with equally learned and qualified facilitators. They covered a wide variety of subjects like GST, Charter of Demands, Negotiation Skills, Big Data, Corporate Governance, HR Analytics, Agile & Scrum, Stock Market investment etc.

The magnum opus of this period had to be ‘The Digital Leadership Summit’ held on 12th Oct 2017, at The Leela Hotel, which hosted over 200 delegates from top corporates, govts, SMEs, startups along with over 30 eminent speakers who were experts of their respective sessions. The conference covered Digital Leadership, Machine Learning, AI, Smart Manufacturing, Disruption etc.

Several other interesting and informative programs covering Labour Laws, Front Line Managers & Trade Union, Sexual Harassment of Women in Workplace, Industrial visit to Tata Motors plant in Pimpri, Pune, along with a mega HR convention (Dec 2017) in association with NHRDN were the spotlights with curtains being lowered on a triumphant note and climax being Leadership in Social Responsibility Summit combined with 38th Edition of BMA Corporate Leadership Awards.

Next on agenda was to increase membership & focus on new members onboard. Improving collaboration with affiliated organizations is also given importance so that we can work to build bridges and improve influence in broader community.

Focus is equally on Inclusion whether it is through a new partnership, special programs or communications platforms. We plan to develop a specific activity that reaches out and engages underrepresented populations in our membership by age, gender, race, or geographic location.
