75th Anniversary of the Quit India Movement. The Speaker of the House, Ms. Sumita
Mahajan, began the proceedings with a rousing speech that recalled the sacrifices of the
common man during this phase of the nationalist struggle. After her inaugural address, it
was the turn of the Prime Minister to take centre stage. Dressed in crisp, pristine white
kurta pyjama and a navy blue jacket, the Prime Minister exuded a sense of confidence and
power, so very typical of the image associated with him. He lived up to his reputation of
being a consummate orator while delivering his 30 minute speech. From diction to pauses,
to voice modulation to the use of body language, he delivered a rousing speech recalling the
contributions of the movement and how it is imperative to use the same energy today to
push India to the centre stage of world power. He said that at that point the slogan was
“Bharat Choro” or Quit India but today, the motto has to be “Jodo India" or Unite India.
It was truly heartening to see that while he spoke, our students sat in absolute silence

new and interesting experience for me. There were many sessions held throughout the
workshop, the most entertaining session for me being the story-telling one.
The workshop started off with a
creative writing session where
details about settings, characters,
introduction, conflict, rising action,
climax, resolution and conclusion
were discussed. Soon after, the
comic book session started
wherein publishers from Diamond Comics and Raj Comics
enlightened the students about the various popular comic characters they had created. Ms.
Priyanka, COO, Manupatra, sensitised the students about respecting intellectual property.
She discussed terms like copyrights, trademarks patents and
plagiarism. There were two back-to-back story-telling
sessions held by Ms. Rituparna Ghosh, Founder and Story
Genie, Your Story Bag and Ms. Simi Srivastava, an eminent
story teller from Kathashala. The students were given
