Leading up to our 80th birthday year, the newsletter will try and bring you some historical tid bits of our Club (and we always try humour). Pic-tured bottom left is the 2014 Derwent Mens Premier League Captain Nick Tremayne. Pictured on the top left is Derwent’s first A-Grade cap-tain and Life Member Alan Preshaw. How times have changed! Below is our 2014 U8’s & U10’s ready for action. Pictured bottom right is Freddy Ansell (4) who thought it would be real “Kool” to dress up in the goalie gear that is at home. Look out Fitzy!

All umpires are human, and all umpires make genuine mistakes, just as players do, but did you know that if you have genuine and constructive feedback about an umpire's performance, there is a channel for you to share that feedback? After the heat of the game, we invite you to send an email to your club's umpiring co-ordinator or secretary with the following, specific information: The name of the umpire the feedback relates to The date and grade of the match which was umpired Specifically what your concerns were (doesn't seem to understand obstruc-

tion, poor positioning within the circle, lets dangerous play continue). We don't want, and can't do anything with the old "they were hopeless" line. Please see the feedback which you provide in the same light you would if you were providing feedback to a player as a coach - that way we have something to work with and can help all of our umpires improve! Your club umpiring coordi-nator or secretary can pass this information on to the Southern Hockey League Umpire Managers who can work with our umpires. If you're an umpire who would like some mentoring or feedback, but you're not sure who to ask, just let your club's umpiring coordinator or secretary know. They will either be able to arrange someone from within the experienced um-pires at your club, or ask one of the SHL Umpire Managers to arrange someone to help.

It was a brother/sister Derwent combination coaching win at the in-augural Region of Origin on Saturday 3rd May 2014. Nick and Jes-sica Tremayne coached the South Green’s Men & Womens team re-spectively. Both teams took out the titles. Pictured on this page are some photos of the Derwent members who were selected to play in

the Green teams. Thanks to Matt Geeves for the photos.

Derwent 2nd grade men & women played in pink socks on the 11th May 2014 (as pictured above) to raise funds and aware-ness for breast cancer research. Together they have raised over $2000. If anyone would like to donate click the link below. Con-gratulations 2nd Grade https://nationalbreastcancerfoundation.everydayhero.com/au/helen-howarth In addition we had a number of Derwent premier league players in The Mothers Day 11km classic.

Junior subs for 2014 have been set. As you can see below some subs for teams have gone up whilst others have gone down. You ask why is that? Firstly subs are determined on the number of games a grade plays. Games be-tween grades can vary from 10 to 15 per age group. The second consideration is the number of players in a team. Again it can vary from 13 to 17. These two factors are the biggest reason for the variation in subs. It should be noted that in 2014 there was an increase in fees from Hockey Tasmania. So the subs for 2014 are as follows:

EARLY BIRD

$25 OFF if paid

by 15 June 2014

Other considerations when determining subs include training times and administration costs. If any player/supporter or parent would like to see a break down of how the subs are determined, I welcome them to contact either myself or John Harris and we will provide the information to them. In addition the following information is relevant to the subs: Goalies—Full subs unless current season receipt provided for gear purchased totalling at least $400. Subs

then to be reduce to $100 for juniors for that season only. Early Bird Payment—Juniors $25 . The figures on page 6 will have $25 added if not paid by the 15th June

2014. E.g. U18 boys subs are 230, if paid prior to 15th June this becomes $205 ($230 - $25 = $205). Subs are due by the 15th July 2014. Payment methods are outlined on the bottom of the page If subs are not paid by the finals, players will be ineligible. Two Grades—If a player plays in two grades, e.g. field/goalie or junior/senior then the higher subs are to be

raised and an additional fee of $100 added for the other grade played. Family discount—There is a discount of $10 per player if at least three players from the one family play in

the 2014 season provided that the junior players are financially dependent on the parent. Per game Fee A charge of $15 per game for juniors until half the rostered gamed have been played, then

full subs will be raised. If you have any questions about the above information please do not hesitate to contact either John Harris or my-self. Our details are on the last page—Jane Ansell, Club President

Payment of subs can be made by one of the following methods: Direct debit: Derwent Hockey Club, BSB 067-002, Ac-

count: 28034458 with reference to your name or invoice number
