We have finished another busy week here at the district on our way to Thanksgiving Break. With the onset of Middle School Basketball and soon to be varsity basketball, I want to remind the community of some courtesies at the games. On the afternoon or evening of games, from the time the teams start warming up, the gym floor is for the players and the players only all evening. Students and kids from the stands will not be able to go on the gym floor in between games or at game breaks. This is due to the floor needing to be kept clean for the players and for the safety of all the spectators. Thanks for your support in this as we move into a very busy basketball season. Our week was highlighted with the strategic plan focus group with the community. Should you not have been able to attend, I want to invite you, on the 3 rd of December, to the parent coffee morning (8:45 am to 9:45am), at which time we will be holding another planning focus group. Lastly, Thanksgiving is upon us. I hope you all have time to rest and spend time with friends and family. Should you be travelling, have a good trip and if you are staying local, enjoy. HAPPY THANKSGIVING! Dustin Shipman

Announcing the Big Sky School District K-12 Holiday Music Program:

"When Claus Became Plural:

The Untold Story of Nick and Claudette" Monday, December 14th and Tuesday, December 15th

6:30 P.M., Warren Miller Performing Arts Center Directed by interim music teachers Maddy Tyler and John Zirkle, the Winter Music Program will be a "collage concert" presented by students of all ages at the school district. This is the untold original story of Nick Claus and Claudette Von Klausenberger, expressed through spoken word, jazz, accompanied and unaccompanied singing, and music for band. Admission is free and all are encouraged to attend.

Today each third grader at OES re-ceived a dictionary from the Big Sky Rotary Club. This is a program that has been around since 2007, and Mon-tana is one of only 8 states nationwide where Rotary Clubs give each third grader in the state a dictionary! A gift to grow with. Much thanks to the Big Sky Rotary Club!

Get the Kids Outside Unit To clarify, regarding student absences for the Get the Kids Outside Unit, the "make up" assignment was only a frame work to guide your student. If they would like to get creative and make a presentation instead of a paper, they may. The unit teaching team unit met and want-ed to clarify that your student should only work on this project for 3 to 4 hours, to reflects the same amount of time missed. They have 2 week to make up the work. We are here to support them if needed. The expectation is to expose the students to the content and en-rich their understanding of the Native American experience. Thank you and have a great Thanksgiving.

IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE Christmas Classic at WMPAC, December 11

The Lone Peak High School International Thespian Society presents “It’s A Wonderful Life: The Live Radio Play by Joe Landry, on 12/11, at the WMPAC at 3:00 and 6:30.

Faithful to the much beloved film, the show is presented as if it were a live recording as a 1940s radio production. Sophomore Evan Redmon plays loyal but beleaguered George Bailey with Senior Soby Haarman and Junior Dasha Bough sharing the role of lovely Mary Bailey in the matinee (Haarman) and evening show (Bough). Senior Griffin Schu-macher makes his debut performance on the WMPAC stage as the des-picable Mr. Potter and the bumbling Billy Bailey, among other roles. The rest of the 15 member cast, most well-known to Big Sky theater goers, play a variety of roles, including on-stage live creation of sound effects utilizing everything from corn flakes to balloons “We try very hard to stay true to the style and production values of live radio shows of the time,” says director John Zirkle. “Right down to the blinking ‘applause’ signs.”

“This is the first non-musical theater production for the high school,” says producer Barbara Rowley. “We wanted to give students who were nervous about singing and dancing a less intimidating route to the stage. Plus, presenting this beautiful story about the heart of small town life and family seems especially perfect for Big Sky.”

Imagined as a new holiday tradition for Big Sky theater-goers, the two show times allow audience members time to attend either show and still make the Christmas Stroll (5:30-9:00). Alternately, get your entire holi-day fix by coming for the opening of The Snow Show at 6:00, a com-munity and student art show in the Performing Art Center gallery. A celebration of snow and its sports, view student ski films and ski in-spired art while enjoying hot cocoa and holiday treats before It’s A Wonderful Life begins at 6:30. Ticket sales at the door or on-line for $10-$20. Profits will be used to underwrite the cost of the high school musical next May.
