Inside this issue:
Willow class kicked off our annual cycle of class assemblies yesterday
when they entertained the school, as well as their parents and other in-
vited guests, to a drama and musical presentation of Tudor history.
Forming the conclusion of their topic learning for this term, the children
wowed the audience with Shake-
speare based drama (see later info
about their Stratford residential)
as well as a humorous song which
told of the perils of being one of
Henry the Viii’s wives. Tudor medi-
cal advice was included too—anyone
suffering from rheumatism is ad-
vised to rub the affected area with
a donkey hide!
They say time flies when you are having fun, well we must all
have been having a lot of fun this term, as it seems to have flown by. Every class has been very busy with their learning
both in school and out and we are very grateful for the tre-mendous level of parent support that we have seen this term,
particularly with home reading.
Reading for enjoyment supports learning at every level and
children love to read to adults and talk about their reading. Miss Cannon has organised reading conferences with her pu-
pil’s parents, in order that she can share with them top tips to support reading development at home; including decoding and comprehension skills. If you would like sup-
port/information to assist you to promote your child’s read-ing development at home, please contact your child’s class
teacher, as they too will be pleased to arrange a convenient
time to meet with you to share effective strategies .
Harvest 2013
Our Harvest festival was held on and the church was close to bursting. Produce donations were once again included into our an-nual fund raising tombola which was held in conjunction with a
MacMillan afternoon tea.

Reading is an exciting pastime for chil-
dren allowing them to travel into worlds
beyond their own experience. The wide
range of books on offer at the fair en-
sured that there was something for most
tastes and ages. Sales exceeded £500 which
has resulted in the school being able to
purchase £160 worth of additional books
for our home reader’s library. Many
thanks to all those who supported this
event and the PTFA for organizing it.
The tombola and afternoon tea event raised a massive £196.08 for MacMillan cancer. Many thanks again for all the contribu-tions received, the cakes donated and the high level of support for
the event. )
The school once again supported the Spalding Triathlon Club’s annual West Pinchbeck 10k run on Sunday 29th September. The PTFA (with additional volunteers) provided refreshments for par-ticipants and spectators raising £187.73 or the PTFA.
Please remember that we are collecting Morrison’s vouchers.
Apple Class have seen the nurse this term, as part of their topic learning ‘All about me’ Mrs Katie Butler visit-ed the school to talk to the children about keeping well and basic first aid. The children have been prac-tising these skills in the class role play area which has been given over to a doctor’s surgery.

ing about Europe this term with food tasting of French
food and baking of Italian biscuits which were enjoyed in the shadow of pictures of
the Coliseum (all drawn by
the children).
Oak Class have an
Indian experience Oak class have been learning about India this term. The learn-ing kicked off with an Indian visi-tor who was able to share cultural and geographic knowledge of the large country. The topic conclud-ed today with an Indian day which has included Indian food tasting—yum yum!!

Blue Bag is back! Clear out your cupboards and drawers
of unwanted clothing and shoes, drop them off at the
school on 15th November for collection. Last year’s blue
bag collections revenue raised for the school will be
spent on additional books for our home readers library.
Next term we hope to move to paperless communications, which will reduce our
consumption of paper and printing resources and therefore our impact on the
environment. Other benefits are expected including financial savings as well as
overcoming on going problem of lost letters which never get home. Please
watch out for the letters coming home next term with further details about this
initiative.
The Year 6’s have started their fundraising for their summer London trip, by selling
the produce from our orchard. Apples, pears, quince and plums were the order
of the day.

Key Stage 2 Music
We have again this year accessed
specialist teaching from the Lin-
colnshire Music Service. Oak Class
are learning drumming techniques as
part of ‘World Music’ whilst children
in Willow class are learning to play a
range of brass instruments. We are
looking forward to future perfor-
mances.
Tudor Tales Willow Class travelled to Stratford to take part in a drama based resi-dential trip. Lots of fun and learning was enjoyed - when asked how it was such responses as ‘Awesome’, ‘Best trip ever’ confirmed that the trip was a complete success.
E-safety

ing Children Board joined us in school on
Wednesday 16th October to provide guidance to
parents on keeping children safe when using
technology. Further information about internet

St Bartholomew’s CE Primary School
Please take the time over the holiday
week to check your childs’ hair for head-
lice and treat as necessary. A whole
school ‘attack’ on this common nuisance
can be very effective when carried out
over a school holiday. Instances of head-
lice in school can only be reduced bythe
efforts made by parents. Please help us
to reduce outbreaks in school by being
checking your child’s hair weekly and
treating if required.
Welcome to Mr Paul Jennings and Mr Neig-berg our recently nomi-nated governors.
Headlice
Thank you for the music Violin and piano lessons will continue to be provided by Miss Gardiner. Please contact the office if your child is inter-ested in taking up these lessons.
