Term 4 School Spirit Awards - Years 1,2 & 6 As is customary at Dandenong North, the last couple of assemblies are dedicated to the termly School Spirit Awards and this week we had Years 1, 2 & 6 presented. These awards are always lengthy as teachers try and outline why each student has been nominated. It was fabulous to hear how all the students had made such great progress throughout the year and that they continuously look after their peers. As usual the decision for Mr Mackay, Mrs Mackay and Mr Hilton to decide on the winners from each year level was extremely difficult as any of the children nominated would have been a deserving winner

Here are this week’s Term Four nominees and winners:

1O - Avleen 1G - Rima 2B - Evin 6L - Lazar

1F - Fatima 2M - Jarrod 2N - Sumedha 6D - Aysha

1H - Princess 2C - Dawoud 2S - Raina 6K - Nida

1L - Mahdiya 2AM - Hetavi 6HK - Hadi 6A - Noah

Here are the winners for Term Four:

The winner from Year 1:

Rima (1G)

Rima is a diligent and motivated learner who demonstrates the 4Cs consistently. She is a curious student who loves to learn and puts tremendous amounts of effort into everything that she does. Rima shows initiative when organising our classroom re-sources and ensures that our classroom is always neat and tidy. She also has a heart of gold and goes above and beyond to make certain that everyone in 1G has a friend to play with. Rima is a superstar and Miss Gage will miss her dearly when she moves to grade two! Well done Rima!

The winner from Year 2:

Sumedha (2N)

Sumedha has had a very successful year. She is a diligent and dedicated student who always strives for her best. Sumedha is frequently one of the first students to finish her work. Not because she rushes, but because she focuses on her work and is never distracted. Sumedha demonstrates a real love of learning and is al-ways testing out her knew knowledge, particularly during writing tasks. Sumedha consistently demonstrates the 4C’s both inside and outside the class-room. She always uses her manners, makes smart decisions about her actions and works well with others. Sumedha often volunteers to assist other students who are having difficulties or in need of a friend. She has a humongous heart and is very caring. 2N has been very fortunate to have such a kind, considerate student in their grade this year. We are all very proud of your achievements and lucky to call you a friend. Well done Sumedha!

Mrs King’s Maternity Leave

Malone Medallions

Term 4 School Spirit Awards Continued:

The winner from Year 6:

Noah (6A)

Noah is one of the most generous and kind-hearted students I have ever taught. He socialises with all students in the classroom and always takes the time to listen to what others have to say. I recently found out that Noah doesn't have any tokens left because he has given them away to other students in the classroom, I wasn't surprised at all. Like a lot us, Noah finds Maths difficult but his 'just keep at it'! attitude has al-lowed him to grow in confidence and make pleasing improvements in the subject. Noah, you have been a pleasure to teach in 2019. I wish you all the best for the fu-ture!

Mrs King will be leaving on maternity leave on Wednesday 4th December in read-iness for the birth of her second child. Mrs King returned to Dandenong North this year after the birth of her first child Jaxon. Mrs King this year has worked with various year levels mainly in the area of Numeracy, assisting children with their place value knowledge. We wish Mrs King the best of luck with the birth of her daughter and look forward to seeing her return to Dandenong North at the begin-ning of Term 4, 2020.

As we only have a handful of assemblies left before the end of the year, it is wonderful to see Mr Malone presenting some Medallions - and if you are one of the few to receive them, they are made all the more special as Mr Malone will be retiring at the end of the year..

So at last week’s assembly, Mr Malone presented two Medallions to students in Year 6 - Hassan 6A and Sugoud 6A.

Hassan:

Has been a wonderful Cross Country competitor with his best result coming in 2017 when he progressed through to the state races where he placed 23rd.

He has always been a great athletics competitor and has progressed from the District, through the Division and onto Regionals in the 1500m and 800m races for 2017 and 2018.

Sugoud:

She has also been a fabulous Cross Country Competitor advancing through to the Divisional competition in 2017, 2018 and 2019. Her best result coming this year when she placed 2nd in the Division Cross Country.

Sugoud has represented DNPS in 2018 and 209 at athletics in the 800m and 1500m races - placing 2nd in the 1500m in 2019 at the Division Athletics - a wonderful effort.

She has been the captain of the girls soccer team and always displays great sportsmanship.

Congratulations to both winners.

Little Athletics

Regional Cricket Finals On Wednesday 27th November, the Girls and Boys A Cricket Teams represented the school at the Southern Metropolitan Re-gional Cricket Finals, which were played at the Lynbrook Cricket Club, Lyndhurst. In superb weather conditions, the students of Dandenong North Primary School, embraced the challenge of playing teams from north of the central business district of Melbourne, through to areas East of the City and all the way down to the Peninsula. We arrived at the venue early to ensure that we were well pre-pared prior to playing the round matches. Initially, the girls had a bye. They were then defeated by Cran-bourne Carlisle in their second round match by 27 runs. In their final match, the girls defeated Wallarano by two runs.

Overall, the girls finished in 4th place. The boys were narrowly defeated by Trinity (who eventually played in the final) in their first round match. In the boys second round match they were defeated by Clayton South by 30 runs and were also defeated by Resurrection, 147 - 135 runs. Based on the boys round robin matches, the team finished in 5th place overall. Despite the overall standings at the end of the competition, we were proud of the teams effort, exemplary leadership and sportsman-ship. By Mr Gould

Mrs Graf came to assembly on Monday to talk about the Southern “Little Ath-letics” competition that Mehdi (6L) and Hassan (6A) had participated in. The astounding part to this story is that Mehdi only began Little Athletics five weeks ago! Whilst Hassan has been a regular Little Athletics medal winner over the years, it was still wonderful to see him being successful at this level as well.

Mehdi won a gold medal in the 4x200 under 15 relay race and a bronze in the under 16 relay race. The team at “Little Athletics Dandenong” were blown away by the speed of Mehdi and they kept asking him “How long have you been racing” and he told them how at DNPS we race all of the time.

David at Little Athletics Dandenong was so impressed by this, that he asked for more children to come along, and last Saturday 18 of our Year 6 children came along and some of them even ran faster than other competitors who have been in Little Athletics for years!

The children had a wonderful time and many of the spectators were heard to say how fit and fast the Dan-denong North children were!

Little Athletics Dandenong would like to offer DNPS students a yearly membership of $130 instead of $155.

So come along this Saturday at 9am and receive two free sessions. Little Athletics is located on Bess Court, off Herbert Street. Don’t forget to mention you are from Dandenong North Primary School!

Year 1 Wildlife Incursion Page 5

Patrick from Wildlife Exposure led a fantastic incursion for our Year 1 students last week. We learned all about lots of different sea animals and we even got to touch and hold some too! We saw sea stars, sea ur-chins, hermit crabs, seahorses, a fiddler ray and even a Port Jackson shark. We hope you enjoy reading these facts from some students in 1L and 1H.

Year 2 Visit Mordialloc Beach Page 6

In Term 4 the Year 2 students have been studying the theme, “Sun, Sea and Water Safety”. The chil-

dren have learnt about the beach and its environment. We have developed an awareness of safety

issues around water and an understanding of what it means to be ‘Sun Smart’. As an essential part

of this theme, we visited Mordialloc Beach. Here are the thoughts and experiences of students from

Grade 2S.

Magical Mordialloc

I don’t know about you, but I love beaches. Do you? If so, I think you will enjoy this story. On Thursday, the Year 2 students went to Mordial-loc Beach! Let me tell you all about it. (Viktor)

I was going there for the first time. First, we walked up along the pier

throw our message in a bottle into the sea. Anjoa threw it with all of her

might from the end of the pier. (Hannah). We also saw some Chinese

men fishing from the pier. They had not caught anything. However, a

man in a boat showed us his enormous fish. He had to use two hands to

hold it up. (Srivinaya) We walked along the river where boats were

parked. There was a humungous, old, rusty boat near a road. It looked

like it was 1 million years old. Maybe pirates had used it in the olden

days. I think it was damaged by a whack from a whale’s tail! (Nimalan)

Yes! It was time for the playground. I was so excited. Raina and I

went on this round, green swing. Others pushed and pulled us up, down and to the side. (Vigashni) I en-

joyed the flying fox. Keerthanan and I pretended that we were on motorbikes doing tricks. (Sammar)

After the playground, we went over to Ms Hubert. She was taking Art on the beach. We used sticks as

our paintbrushes and drew in the sand. (Fazil) Nimalan wrote “Mordialloc Beach” in the sand. It looked

like Anjoa was digging a massive hole to China! (Mohammad) I wanted to go there because I would love

to try Chinese food. (Anjoa)

Looking for buried treasure was next. We got a zip lock back for our treasure hunt and shells. I was excit-

ed with joy, ready to collect them from the sand. (Keerthanan) I found a dead pufferfish. It was the first

time that I had seen one. It was amazing to see an unusual marine animal. (Nimalan) I found a swirly

shell that also had a blue patch. It was so beautiful. (Suvisna)

Finally, we had sport with Mr Gould. I played with a Frisbee and an AFL ball. We also learnt valuable

information about being beach safe. (Hannah)

I had a whale of a time at Mordialloc Beach. (Hannah) The best part of the excursion was the incredible

playground.

Magical Mordialloc, more like Marvellous Mordialloc! (Viktor)
