Northwest is a church where fellowship and connecting with each other is one of our
congregation’s strengths. The ability to share time and conversation with one another is
one of our great losses during this separation due to the pandemic. At the Administrative
Council meeting, we discussed ways in which we are individually trying to fill this “gap”
in our lives. Here are a few that were mentioned:
• Invite one couple or family over for dinner with each family bringing their meal and
beverages – and socially distancing in the yard or apart on the patio – (don’t have to
cook or clean for others!)
• Lori Beals is willing to coordinate a PicSix – where 6 people can meet at an outdoor
• location like a park along the river i.e. so please text, email or call her if you are
interested in participating!
• Start a book club where everyone reads the same book and discusses it via zoom with
one person taking responsibility to set it up and facilitate
• Ask someone to be your prayer partner and pray for each other
• Put a game app like Trickster cards on your phone/device and you can create a group
to play euchre or a variety of card games virtually
• Plan to meet a couple of people at church to do outside yard work
• Call, facetime, text or email your church friends and commit to keeping in touch
• From the newsletter list celebrate birthdays and anniversaries with a call or card of
remembrance
• NWCC softball team plays on Monday evenings – attend a game
• Sew masks for those challenged by such a task
• Plan to learn more about a particular country with another family and separately
cook a “themed” meal and share recipes
We invite each of you to share how you are coping during this pandemic time by calling or
emailing the church office with your ideas. We can post them in the newsletter for as long
as this necessary separation lasts! Blessings to all.
Ideas for Connections during COVID-Confinement
PicSix at Six on Sundays
Sign up to be part of Sunday evenings picnics of six at six(pm) with NWCC
friends. Two tables of six will be organized at the same location so that single,
couples, or families can participate. Location will be at the Grigg's Reservoir river
shelter #2. (Entrance across from Frank's Marathon, 3116 Riverside Drive) Each
person will bring their own brown bag or take out dinner and beverage. Diners
will sit with space between, and additional tables may be used if increased space is
desired. When mingling before or after eating, masks will be worn, and 6' distance
maintained. Gatherings are subject to cancellation if stay-at-home
orders are in place.
Dates will include August 2, August 9, August 15, August 22, and August 29. Addi-
tional locations may be added.
If you are interested, please contact Lori Beals,

Our local Central Ohio CROP Hunger Walk Planning Team (representing
the Columbus, Westerville and Worthington CROP Hunger Walks) have
taken a great deal of time to deliberate about our plans for this coming fall
(on which Bruce is a member as Lead Team Captain). We have determined
that out of an abundance of caution for our participants, (that span in age
range from infant to 90 years old) our best option is to host a VIRTUAL
CROP Hunger Walk this year.
What does that exactly mean? We will still be walking - either on our own or SAFELY with our team (depending
on size, using social distancing, face masks, etc.) This should be based on of the recommendation of the Health
Department Guidelines when we get to October AND more importantly, we will still be raising funds for our most
vulnerable neighbors!
The Walk may be Virtual, but the need could not be more real:

2) Like us on Facebook (facebook.com/columbuscrophungerwalk) and

3) Invite people to walk with you and/or donate. Please get started NOW because the need is GREAT!
4) Connect with other CROP Hunger Walkers locally and across the country on multiple online platforms by using
the hashtags #CbusCHW and #VirtualCROPHungerWalk

VIRTUAL CROP HUNGER WALK DAY: October 11, 2020
CENTRAL OHIO CROP HUNGER WALK SEND-OFF RALLY:
Join us for our Virtual Send-off for all the Central Ohio CROP Hunger Walkers at 1pm on October 11 via our
Facebook page! We will have an invocation; words from our Event Coordinator, Ashley Montana; a brief word
about Church World Service and a special presentation from Nick Bates, Executive Director of Hunger Network in
Ohio! hungernetohio.com
WALK! Walk around your block, walk around your neighborhood, walk in a local park, or simply walk around
your living room! You can walk individually or with your team (If walking with your team, please observe proper
social distancing, mask wearing and limit the number of individuals to around 10 or whatever maximum number is
permitted by the Department of Health at that time - which may require our team to walk more than one group).

Dear NWCC,
Recently, we had the chance to
catch up with our international
church partners at Centro
Shalom! It was a great
opportunity to be reminded of
how global the church of Jesus
Christ truly is. We affectionately
call The Shalom Center, "Camp
Christian South America" and
our shared ministry between
Chile and Ohio is linked by a long history of delegations, shared resources, and mostly
through ongoing prayer and continued relationship rooted in the Holy Spirit.
When we were chatting, we talked about all the similarities going on in our two ministry
contexts. Although we are in totally separate hemispheres, both our ministries have had
to alter programming, switch to virtual worship, and change many of our "traditional"
ways of being church.
In our conversation, Patricia Gomez, the Director of the Shalom Center, shared that the
most important thing we in Ohio can know is that the church in Chile is praying for us
and that they are grateful for our prayers for them.
As we all find ways to move forward in this strange season of our lives, may this be a
reminder that we are never alone, that God is caring for all of our siblings around the
world, and the church universal can be in prayer for one another as we strive to do
faithful ministry together.
Also, if you are curious about more information on the Shalom Center, please check out
this YouTube Video! Click Here (The subtitles are in English.)
Lastly - you should know(!) - when it is safe to do so, we will plan another delegation
to Chile as we have done
several times in the past,
and if you're interested in
being part of this program,
please reply to this email
and let us know and we'll be
sure to keep you updated
with future plans for our
continued relationship with
the Shalom Center!
Peace and God Bless

Daniel 9: 3-6 So I turned to the Lord God and pleaded with him in prayer and
petition, in fasting, and in sackcloth and ashes. I prayed to the LORD my God and
confessed: “Lord, the great and awesome God, who keeps his covenant of love
with those who love him and keep his commandments, we have sinned and done
wrong. We have been wicked and have rebelled; we have turned away from your
commands and laws. We have not listened to your servants the prophets, who
spoke in your name to our kings, our princes and our ancestors, and to all the
people of the land.”
In these verses, Daniel is confessing the sin of the people of Israel who have been
made captive by Babylonia. He doesn’t pull any punches or try to make things
sound more socially acceptable. When we confess our sins, we should not
minimize their significance.
C.S. Lewis points out in one of his letters that God does not need to hear us list
our sins in order to bestow forgiveness and grace. We need to hear our sins in
order to appreciate that forgiveness and grace more fully. It helps us feel forgiven
and restored by God. Confession contributes to our being able to reconnect with
God more completely.
As a steward relationship with God, it makes sense to employ every technique
available to improve our connection with God.

OPEN AND AFFIRMING SURVEY ON ITS WAY!
Soon you will receive by email or post an important survey for
the discernment of NWCC becoming an Open and Affirming
congregation in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
It will be extremely helpful for you to answer the questions on the survey and
return it to the church office by email or post as soon as possible. All survey
responses are anonymous. We want to hear from everyone. The Open and
Affirming leadership team and our Elders need to have this information to
determine the next steps in this process of discernment. Be watching for the
survey very soon, and please respond! Thank you!
