NEW YORK• New York is the most

populous city in the United States and the center of the New York Metropolitan Area, one of the most populous urban agglomerations in the world.The city is referred to as New York City or the City of New York to distinguish it from the State of New York, of which it is a part.A global power city,New York exerts a significant impact upon commerce, finance, media, art, fashion, research, technology, education, and entertainment.

SportsSports

• New York City is home to the headquarters of the National Football League, Major League Baseball, the National Basketball Association, the National Hockey League, and Major League Soccer. Four of the ten most expensive stadiums ever built worldwide are located in the New York metropolitan area. The New York metropolitan area has the most professional sports teams in these five leagues.

• Brooklyn (Kings County) on the western tip of Long Island, is the city's most populous borough and was an independent city. Brooklyn is known for its cultural, social and ethnic diversity, an independent art scene, distinct neighborhoods and a distinctive architectural heritage.The borough features a long beachfront shoreline including Coney Island.

The Brooklyn Bridge• The Brooklyn Bridge is a

bridge in New York City and is one of the oldest suspension bridges in the United States. Completed in 1883, it connects the boroughs of Manhattan and Brooklyn by spanning the East River. It was the longest suspension bridge in the world from its opening until 1903, and the first steel-wire suspension bridge.

Queens• Queens (Queens County) on Long Island east of

Brooklyn, is geographically the largest borough and the most ethnically diverse county in the United States. Historically a collection of small towns and villages founded by the Dutch, the borough has since developed both commercial and residential prominence.

Statue of Liberty• Staten Island is the most suburban in character of the five boroughs. Staten Island is connected to Brooklyn by the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge and to Manhattan by way of the free Staten Island Ferry. The Staten Island Ferry is one of the most popular tourist attractions in New York City as it provides unsurpassed views of the Statue of Liberty.

Empire State Building• The Empire State Building

is a 102(two hundred and two)-story skyscraper located in Midtown Manhattan, at the intersection of Fifth Avenue. It has a roof height of 1,250 (two hundred fifty) feet, and with its antenna spire included, it stands a total of 1,454(four hundred fifty-four) ft high. Its name is derived from the nickname for New York, the Empire State.

CENTRAL PARK• Central Park is a

public urban park located in the metropolitan borough of Manhattan in New York City, United States. The park is rectangular. Being larger than two of the smallest nations in the world, it is almost two times bigger than Monaco and almost eight times more than the Vatican City.
