Learning Outcomes:

1. Assess and provide emergency nursing care to the patient with head and neck trauma.

2. Assess and provide emergency nursing care to the patient with chest, abdominal, and genitourinary trauma.

3. Describe appropriate nursing interventions and medical treatment modalities for surface and extremity trauma.

4. Integrate knowledge, skills, and ability to enhance the care of the trauma patient.

5. Describe aspects of the trauma continuum of care.

6. Demonstrate critical thinking skills necessary to provide professional/ethical care to trauma patients.

Disaster Management and Emergency Preparedness (DMEP) Course

8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.(Registration at 7:30am)

Course Objectives:

1. Review the surgical problems, injury patterns, and issues that may result from disasters.

2. Discuss the role that surgeons and other acute care providers can play in planning for a response to mass casualty incidents and disasters.

3. Explain the terms and concepts of incident command.

4. Describe the principles and challenges of disaster triage.

5. Identify the civilian and military assets available for support.

PRE-CONFERENCE WORKSHOPS

Continuing Education Credits: Mid-Carolina AHEC, Inc. is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the South Carolina Nurses Association, an accredited approver with distinction, by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. This nursing continuing education activity, approval #1510-040-PR-270 is approved for 8.0 hours.

AHEC: This program is approved for 0.8 CEU’s (8.0 clock hours) of continuing education by Mid-Carolina AHEC, Inc. and meets the SC AHEC Best Practice Standards.

Participants must attend 90% of the program in order to receive a certificate of attendance.

No partial credit will be given.

The Trauma Certified Registered Nurse (TCRN) exam incorporates the body of knowledge in trauma nursing across the continuum of care, from injury prevention through reintegration to home. Upon successful completion of the certification exam, the TCRN credential is valid for a period of 4 years.
