AALL 2015 | PHILADELPHIA, PA NEW FEATURES BOOTH 203 Major Searching Enhancements Improvements to search relevancy algorithm We have updated the algorithm that calculates relevancy when searching in HeinOnline. Previously, relevancy was heavily based on term occurrence in the text of search results; we have updated our relevancy to boost terms that occur in certain parts of the metadata, such as the article title and publication title. Additional boosting was applied to word proximity, so search terms that occur closer together will now have a higher relevancy. We have used this enhanced boosting system to try to predict what users are looking for based on their search terms. Search specific titles within subcollections Users can now select one or more titles from within a subcollection to narrow the scope of a search. This enhancement is available across all collections in HeinOnline, making it easy to drill into only the titles you select in order to produce the most accurate, refined search results possible! Input custom date range into search facet We have improved the date facet on the search results page to include custom date range fields. Simply input the desired dates into each field and click Go to update the search results. We have streamlined the appearance of available tools, such as PDF/Download and MyHein, and enhanced the search result display by automatically adding the first instance of matching text that occurs in each result.
