    Blooms Taxonomy Initiated in

    1948

    Blooms Task: Analyze and categorize

the varied paths of human learning,

    through feelings, knowing, and doing.

Blooms Result: A hierarchy thatprovides a way to ask questions based on

    complexity.

    Knowledge: Remembering

    previously learned material by

    recalling facts, terms, formulas,

    definitions

    Who, what, where, when,

    which, show, tell, recognize,

    retrieve, memorize, identify,

    circle, count, define, describe

    What do you remember

    about___?

    How would you identify___?

    How would you recognize___?

    Why did___?What is___?

    Comprehension: Understanding

    the meaning of remembered

    materials, interpreting, describing

    in ones own words.

    Add, clarify, estimate, map,

    interpret, model, retell,

    rewrite, generalize, discuss,

    associate, categorize,

    associate, infer, conclude

    How would you compare____?

    Contrast___?

What is the main idea of__?

    What would happen if__?

    How would you summarize?Elaborate___

    Application:Problem solving.

    Applying information to produce

    some result. Using information

    in a novel situation

    Solve, perform, adapt, alter,

    change, operate, modify, predict

    participate, interview, develop,

    experiment, calculate,

    dramatize, do, utilize, sketch,determine

    Why does _______ work?

    How would you modify_____?

    How would you develop _____?

    What approach would you use

    to____?What other way could

    you______?

How would you apply what you

    learned today to

    develop______?

    Analysis: Examine and break

    information into parts, and show

    relationships among parts. Make

    inferences and find evidence to

    support motives and causes.

    Transform, sort, deduce, focus,

    infer, reason, segment,

    document, categorize, simplify,

    point out, ask, inventory,

    correlate, select, monitor

    What explanation do you have

    for___?

What is your analysis of ___?

    How can you compare the

    different parts of ____?

Discuss the pros and cons of

    ____/

What can you infer from ___?

    How would you explain ____?

    How does compare/contrast

    with ____?

    Synthesis: The ability to

    combine component parts into a

    new structure. Using creative

    thinking and problem solving to

    build new ideas.

    Compile, interact, invent,

    imagine, gather, detect,

    develop, create, reorganize,

    plan, test, generate, format,

    construct, judge, elaborate,devise

    What alternative would you

    suggest for___?

    How would you explain

    ___?

What could you invent ___?Devise a way you could __?

    Predict the outcome if ___?

    Can you construct a model

    that would change ___?

    Evaluation:Making value

decisions about issues. Theability to judge the value of

    material according to a specified

    criteria

    Agree, defend, justify,

    design, determine, verify,value, test, critique,

    conclude, grade, rate,

    perceive, editorialize,

    assess, disprove

    What criteria would you use

to assess ___?What data was used to

    evaluate ___?

    What is the most important

    ___?

    What choice would you

    have made ___?

    Rate the ___.

    What would you suggest___?

    Identifying Bloom in Open

CourtReview your current unit of study in OpenCourt.

Look for questions in the Reading and

Responding Section, and identify the level ofcomplexity using Blooms Taxonomy.

Identify 5 ways to Bloom Up the questions to

reflect enhanced academic language using key

terms and question prompts, while addressingthe needs of your diverse learners. (See Task

Sheet #5, ELA) Please continue with Power

    Revised Blooms

TaxonomyHoping to add relevance to 21st century students

and teachers, Lorin Anderson and David

Krathwohl, along with other psychologists and

researchers worked from 1995-2000 developingadaptations to the original taxonomy.

Their new taxonomy resulted in useful and

    comprehensive additions focusing on different

    types and levels of knowledge.

    Now Its Your Turn

Using Anderson and Krathwohls Taxonomy, plan

learning activities and/or strategic questions for a

lesson in one particular content area (ELA, math,

history/social science, or visual arts) that reflectseach level of the taxonomy.

Based on classroom data, use appropriate

evidence of scaffolds for acceleration or

    intervention.
