'Making a splash' took on a whole new meaning when

this 2,700 sq. ft. houseboat was unveiled to the public in

Copenhagen. Embracing the themes of sustainability and

modern lifestyle, the houseboat structure pays incredible

attention to detail in the areas of design, materials and

technology solutions.

Water works

Whether docked in a wintery Copenhagen setting or an

even colder climate, one of the first things you'll notice is

the particularly innovative indoor climate system on the

houseboat. The state-of-the-art system uses the water

it floats on as the main energy source. Heat is extracted

from the sea water through a 2,100 ft. long

hose positioned beneath the houseboat. Energy

for floor heating and household water is then

extracted through this clever heat pump. The

ventilation system ensures that the heat from

the rooms is also regenerated and through this

entire system the energy consumption on the

houseboat is more than half that of a regular

household.

When it came to decorating the houseboat,

BoConcept stylist Lene Rønfeldt took her

inspiration from the structure itself. What

immediately struck Lene was both the

tranquility and sense of freedom you get inside

the houseboat – the clean, modern lines of the

structure combined with the stunning views of

INTERIOR PLAN MEETING IN THE STORE

the water around it offered plenty of scope to

be creative with colors and shapes. 'I chose

furniture with curvy details and accessories in

natural water colors and wood to accentuate

the basic premise behind the boat itself' Lene

explains. To help the owners visualize how the

furniture would look in the space, Lene created

3D renderings of each room.

Open spaces

The houseboat is a true example of open-plan

living. Using the panoramic windows as her

starting point Lene Rønfeldt wanted to ensure

that the furniture was always directed towards

the best views of the harbor outside. For

storage, open-ended room dividers were used

to avoid blocking any of the light or views. Rugs

and groupings of furniture were incorporated

to define the different areas while still keeping

everything in the same color tones to create

a coherent style. 'With open-plan living, it's

important to remember that you can see

through to the next room and that everything

has to be in harmony. Otherwise, you can end

up with a very chaotic and confused look,' Lene

Rønfeldt explains.

'The rooms are so light and airy, that it allowed

for the distinctive living chairs to really come

into their own. But more importantly, the

chairs are designed with swivel bases, so you

can always turn around to look out at the

scenery outside. Finally, positioning the Imola

chair under the skylight, created the perfect

spot to relax and take in the view of the stars

overhead.'

At the moment, the houseboat is on show for

the partners who contributed to its design and

interior space. After that, the boat will become

a home where the owners can enjoy their

extraordinary piece of floating luxury.

Designs in Aarhus, Denmark. For over two

decades he has designed numerous modular

sofa concepts and chairs for BoConcept.

When starting to design a new modular sofa,

Anders Nørgaard considers the lifestyles

of different cultures around the world and

the regional differences in taste, colors

and space. He is keenly aware of the fact

that there is no real global style. 'I like the

fact that customers can create their own

personal look for a sofa or chair by being

able to choose size, materials and colors.

The job for me and the team is to create a

good, coherent foundation that ensures no

matter what customers choose from the

options available, it will work in terms of

look, quality and function.'

As a Danish designer, Anders Nørgaard's

work inevitably reflects the Scandinavian

traditions he grew up with; simplistic and

functional design: 'If functionality is the

starting point, the aesthetics become a form

of that expression. Simple lines make for

a classic sofa that will look good for years.

The enhancement of the design happens

through small details that will make the sofa

a distinctive piece with international appeal.'

Graduated as Productl Fashion Designer

from Teko Center, Denmark, 1990. Now

works with graphic and interior design in his

own company 365° and has created unique

chair designs for BoConcept.

The Imola chair certainly checks all the

boxes when it comes to setting the bar as

the next design icon. Appealing to design

lovers all around the world it is a visually

strong design featuring distinctive lines

that are playful, yet luxuriously comfortable

at the same time. When Henrik Pedersen

created this eye-catching chair for

BoConcept, the inspiration came from an

unusual source - the lines of a tennis ball.

And this is a 'typical' example of how new

ideas come to the designer. 'I get inspired

by seeing things up close. Or maybe I have

an idea only for part of a product. Little

details that can evolve into a complete

product.'

Design in any form is a passion of Henrik

Pedersen, who has also worked with fashion

and graphic design. 'If there is a rule for my

design, it is that it has to speak to you. Form

and function are my main tools to move

and touch people no matter what I design.

With the Imola chair, the organic expression

almost talks to the unconscious urge to sit

down and relax. The distinctiveness lies

within the visual tension that is created

between the spoon-shaped seat and the

sharp cut on the edges.'

Valencia, Spain. Morten has a special

aptitude for designing multifunctional

pieces, including storage, tables and beds.

Designs from Morten Georgsen and his

team prove that you don't have to sacrifice

aesthetics for function when creating

storage systems. 'Of course, we have to

ensure a coordinated look where dimensions

and colors match to avoid a chaotic and

unbalanced appearance. But smaller units,

different colors, depths and lengths of

cabinets and shelves and various types

of fronts can create very different and

individual looks. So wall systems are really

moving away from their humble traditional

position in the living room to distinctive

pieces of personal expression for any room

in the home.'

While Morten recognizes that style and

taste can differ depending on the culture,

there is one global trend that is setting

new standards for storage. Electronics and

multimedia have become a major part of

today's homes. 'So we have to look at this

as an integral part of storage designs. We

are creating new ways of hiding away the

clutter of electronics, not to mention all the

wires that come with it, through specially

designed cabinets, sliding doors and cabinet

fronts. By doing so, we help to create a final

result that will look good in the home.'

1 HOUR HOME VISIT

When Mario Vega bought his new condo with breathtaking

views of San Francisco, he decided that it would be the

ideal starting point for a new interior decorating style.

'Buying this condo is a long-term investment for me. I

knew my existing furniture would not fit the space in

size and style and that it would end up as a confused,

uncoordinated look that wouldn't do this great-looking

condo justice. So part of the investment was also to start

from scratch when it came to furniture and

decoration.'

'Up until now, I haven't had that much interest

in home furnishings. That's not to say that I

don't have a preference for certain style and I

definitely know what I like. But there is a big

difference between knowing what you like and

undertaking the daunting task of decorating an

entire condo. I simply needed to get the right

start.'

Having first met in the BoConcept store in

San Francisco, design consultant Caroline

Krogh-Jensen arranged to meet Mario Vega in

his new condo so she could see the space in

person, take measurements and get a feel for

Mario's own ideas and preferences. 'Mario is a

sociable guy who likes to entertain. So it was

important to create a lounge environment that

was optimal for entertaining. He was also very

specific about the small alcove in the living

room where he wanted a comfy spot where he

could enjoy the stunning city views.'

A week later, Caroline presented Mario with

3D drawings of the interior space she had

INTERIOR PLAN MEETING IN THE STORE

planned for the condo. 'When you decorate a

small space, it's important to incorporate easy

storage to help keep the room looking neat

and organized. The wall unit has door fronts so

books, files, multimedia and DVDs are hidden

away. The coffee table has built-in storage

space and its table tops can be raised into

position for eating or working. And finally to

optimize space, the dining table is extendable

so Mario can easily make room for more guests

when he's entertaining.'

'As for seating space, the Mezzo sofa was

selected for its spacious design and the dark

leather adds a masculine touch to the interior.

For the alcove, the Como sofa is the perfect

comfy, open-ended seat where Mario can

enjoy the views or have extra seating space

for guests.' Caroline also made drawings of the

bedroom. 'I used the soft grey pebble wall in

the bedroom as inspiration. The furniture is

dark and I mixed it with lots of textures and

colors in fur, leather and silky petrol to create a

very sophisticated and elegant look.'

Caroline's proposal also included suggestions

for wall colors and a full accessory plan. 'Mario

had told me that his favorite colors were

eggplant and aquamarine. So I worked with

different shades of these colors. The deeper,

darker colors were brought to life with accents

of brighter and bolder colors to create a wow

factor.'

The visco-elastic foam in a Fahrenheit mattress

consists of open, self-ventilating cells designed to

automatically respond to your body temperature

and weight. It molds to your body shape giving

you ultimate support, so you can say goodnight

to neck and back pains. The unique foam helps

to eliminate uncomfortable pressure points, and

as a result you don't have to turn over so often

while you're sleeping. This means a better night's

sleep, so you don't need the same amount of

sleep compared to a regular mattress.

Because of its unique pressure-relieving

properties, the Fahrenheit mattress may require

a short adjustment period whilst your body grows

Return and exchange policy

If you are dissatisfied with your purchase, you

are naturally entitled to return it within five

days (furniture) or seven days (accessories),

as long as it is unused and undamaged, part

of our main selection, and is still in its original

packaging. A restocking fee, of 40% of the

original purchase price, applies to all furniture

orders. Should you wish to have the items

picked up, a delivery charge will also apply.

Please note, however, that items bought on sale

cannot be returned. See in store for full details

of our terms and conditions.

For quick and easy delivery and assembly, our

professional service team can assist. They are

knowledgeable about our products and will

ensure expert assembly, packaging removal

and careful placement of the furniture in

your home. Assembly is free of charge for all

BoConcept products and there is a flat rate

delivery fee for all orders delivered within the

store's normal trade area – please ask in store

for details.

Delivery time

We have a wide range of products available

in our main selection, which can be delivered

in 3-4 weeks. Much of our selection is also

customized and delivery time for custom-made

special orders is 8-10 weeks for board furniture

and 10-12 weeks for upholstery. Delivery time

may vary based on the store's location in

North America.

Furniture care

Good things last even longer when you take

care of them.

Wood and veneer

• Wood and veneer are affected by light. For

the first 6–8 weeks, when the item is first

absorbing the surrounding light, keep the

surfaces clear of any objects or decorations.

It is possible that uneven light absorption

could result in permanent marks and circles.

At first, new furniture will also need time to

absorb light before it will match the tone of

your existing furniture

• Water is only to be used in small quantities

and only in the form of a damp cloth. After

wiping, always wipe dry with a dry cloth

• No polish or oil treatment of any form should

be used

• Wood and veneer are very sensitive to

liquids. Therefore, wipe up spilled liquids

immediately

• Always try to remove stains with the mildest

cleaning materials

Upholstery in general

• If possible, switch the seat and back

cushions on a regular basis to extend the life

of your cushions and to ensure even wear

over the years

• Cushions with a filling of foaml feather

should be shaken regularly to ensure form

stability

• Expect a 'breaking in' period for your new

sofa. The cushion fillings need time and use

to stabilize so your cushions will fell more

smooth and comfortable

• All leathers and fabrics will stretch during

use. To achieve the best comfort, covers

cannot fit too tightly. Therefore, some

creasing may occur, while adding to the

character of your sofa

• Make sure the legs are fitted tightly to the

sofa and check them on a regular basis

• If you need to move your sofa or chair, avoid

dragging it into position. Lift it to prevent

scratching the floor, or damaging its legs

or frame

Furniture textiles

• Protect fabric from direct sunlight to prevent

color fading

• Regular cleaning: Vacuum frequently and

use the BoConcept Textile Cleaner for

general cleaning

• We recommend treating your fabrics with

the BoConcept Textile Protection to prevent

stains and dirt from penetrating the textile

fibers before use and also after use of the

BoConcept Textile Cleaner

• Remove stains by using the BoConcept Spot

Remover Kit and again use the BoConcept

Textile Protection

• BoConcept stain-cleaning materials should

only be used after they have been tested on

a small, less noticeable area to check the

effect on the material

• Removable covers in fabrics can be dry-

cleaned

Leather

• Protect leather from direct sunlight and

sources of heat to prevent color fading

• For general cleaning use a dry soft cloth only

• If necessary, wipe or lightly rub the whole

surface with a clean, soft cloth wrung in

soapy water

• If vacuum cleaning, use a soft brush nozzle

to avoid scratching the surface

• Use the BoConcept Leather Protector before

you start using your new piece of furniture.

When the leather needs to be cleaned use

the BoConcept Leather Cleaner and then

BoConcept Leather Protector to maintain

the leather

• Use the BoConcept Leather Cleaner for

cleaning the sofal chair 2–3 times a year

Mattresses

• Leave the bed uncovered as much as

possible and always place the mattress on

slats and not a solid base. This lets the air

circulate and airs the mattress

• Try to remove spills by dabbing the mattress

with a simple mix of water and dish liquid.

Leave the mattress uncovered to air

Duvets and pillows

• Air your pillows and duvets regularly. Before

covering your bed with a bed cover leave the

duvets and pillows uncovered to air for a while

• Wash the duvet in a washing machine with a

minimum capacity of 11 lbs and preferably

15 lbs. Use a non-biological wooll down

detergent. Use half the amount of detergent

that you would use for a normal wash. Wash

on a warm setting with the gentlestl most

delicate spin option

• Always dry in dryer. A couple of clean,

unused tennis balls in the dryer will make the

drying process more efficient

Furniture production is part of our heritage.

Over 60 years of experience and know-how

facility in Denmark, as well as in our close

cooperation with our global suppliers. We have

chosen to work with only a few select suppliers

that share our commitment to high quality.

Together, we work to develop competencies

and processes, and to implement initiatives

that take responsibility for people and the

Our aim is to manufacture products with as

little impact on the environment as possible.

We continually strive to make environmental

improvements in our supply chain, and we have

many positive results to document our efforts,

such as:

• Our furniture lacquers are mainly UV-based,

which means we have reduced the use of

organic solvents significantly

• All our board furniture is within the E1 norm

for formaldehyde emission

• We use recyclable chipboard and MDF

instead of solid wood

• We use packaging made of recycled

cardboard

• Our furniture is packaged according to the

knockdown principle, which minimizes the

transportation volume and thereby the

emission of CO2

and based on our passionate regard for functional and

affordable design. To achieve this, we work with finding the

right balance between carefully selected materials, beautiful

design and deliberate simplicity.

We have applied a quality assurance system based on

the ISO 9000 standard, and most of our products and

accessories meet European and international standards. Our

own production experience and the fact that we work with

only a few, select suppliers puts us in control of the entire

production process ensuring the highest quality every step

of the way.

Wood furniture

You will find veneer surfaces on most of our board furniture,

such as wall systems, tables and bed frames. Veneer is just

like wood – a natural material – and variations in the grain

must be expected. This is what makes each piece of wood

furniture unique.

Glass

Many of our glass tabletops are made of tempered glass for

our customers' safety – please check at time of purchase

whether your glass tabletop has tempered glass. The

colored glass plates are color consistent. All edges are

finished to highest standard.

Metal parts

To reduce impurities, the majority of our metal parts are

made from the highest quality metal. This makes it easier to

work with and leaves a smooth surface.

Upholstered furniture

We are dedicated to ensuring that every single piece of

our furniture provides you with perfect seating comfort.

That's why we primarily use high resilient foam in our

seat cushions. High resilient foam is very structurally

stable, ensuring optimum comfort and a long lifetime. Our

back cushions are channel sewn so that they are durable

and retain their shape. They are filled with specially cut

foaml feather filling. Some of our sofa programs use high

resilient foam for back cushions. Expect a 'breaking in'

period for your new sofa. The cushion fillings need time

and use to stabilize; so your cushions will feel smooth and

comfortable.

The selection and application of hardwearing materials,

which contribute to the lifetime of our products, is a key

factor for us. So too is the widespread use of hard woods,

especially where strength and stability are required. Our

products are upholstered with high quality foam that

ensures both soft and rounded edges and corners, and

means that our cover fabrics wear less and last longer.

Leathers and fabrics

We select our leather and fabrics based on the design and

function of the individual products they are to be used for.

We guarantee no color difference between different pieces

of furniture when commissioned as one order. Our only

requirement is that all the pieces of furniture are ordered at

the same time.

All leathers and fabrics will stretch during use. To achieve

the best comfort covers cannot fit too tightly. Therefore,

some creasing may occur, but this adds character to the

sofa or chair.

All our furniture fabrics are tested at internationally

recognized and accredited institutions.

We have 5 leather types available:

Rio, Bahia and Salto leathers are made from buffalo hide

(Rio) or cowhide (Bahia and Salto) that have been treated to

provide a consistent structure and provide protection against

spills and stains. All three leathers are soft and comfortable,

yet hardwearing and able to retain their appearance over

a long period of time. They are easy to maintain and are

especially recommended for homes with children and pets.

Salto is a thick leather that makes it very suitable for big,

soft surfaces and it has a very exclusive look.

Estoril leather is made from cowhide, and is known for

its natural grain characteristics, and exclusive feel. Soft

and flexible, Estoril leather is classified as high-quality

semi-aniline leather that ensures maximum sitting comfort.

Through use, Estoril leather will develop a beautiful patina

that adds character to the product.

Salvador is a top grain leather and classified as an aniline

leather. The highest quality part of the hide is used for

aniline leather. The natural softness of the leather is

preserved to ensure exclusive seating comfort. Visible

natural markings will add character to the material.
