NEIGHBORHOOD SERVICES
By Chris Goodwin
Northwest Council Member,El Paso Neighborhood Coalition
El Paso is on the crossroadsof big changes and ourneighborhoods need to be apart of that change. Whetheryou agree or disagree on thelocation of the new baseballstadium and the nationallyrecognized Plan El Paso,Neighborhood Associationsform the backbone ofcommunity involvement.
My question to all Associa-tion members is, How do wekeep our neighbors involvedand active? Typically, involvement peaks when anissue or project immediatelyaffects the neighborhood andwhen the project or issuecomes to an end, Associationinvolvement wanes. I would
like to request ideas from
anyone and everyoneregarding outreach, upcoming neighborhoodprojects, communicationbetween Neighborhood
Associations, partneringwith agencies to beautifyand develop parks, andhow to get our communityinvolved in the Neighbor-hood Coalition AestheticsCampaign.
Coalition Council membersrepresent the five cityplanning districts: MissionValley, Central, Eastside,Northwest, and Northeast
and each district is
responsible for represent-ing the registeredNeighborhood Associationswithin that planning area.Project grants are avail-able, Keep El PasoBeautiful is now a part ofthe City EnvironmentalDepartment and our city isgrowing every day.
Lets work together,encourage neighborhood
volunteers and make ourcity an even better place tolive and raise our families. If you have ideas on how toget the word out toNeighborhood Associa-tions, please feel free tocontact me:
