There are a few changes taking place in the
Resident Services Office. After serving the Lawrence-
Douglas County Housing Authority for 16 years, 8 as
Director of Resident Services, Carrie Lindsey is
moving to Wichita.
Filling the position of
Director is Heather Odell.
When asked about her
new position, Heather
said, “I am pleased to
announce that I am now
the Director of Resident
Services. I am stepping
into the role formerly held
by Carrie Lindsey and I
wish her the best on her
Wichita adventures. The
Employment Program at
Resident Services will
always be close to my heart, but Steven Mutz can
now assist with any employment or education goals.
I look forward to serving housing assistance
recipients in a new way, by writing grants,
supervising the fabulous Resident Services Office
staff, continuing the great programming that we
already offer and building new programs. Please
call or come by to see me if you have any questions
or concerns.”

Take precautions against mosquitoes
The Lawrence-Douglas County Health Department urges residents to take precautions
against mosquitoes when outdoors. The recent rainy conditions have the potential to
make mosquito populations flourish this summer. There are a few simple precautions you
can take to keep yourself and your family safe this summer.
When outdoors, use insect repellent on exposed skin and clothing that contains these
active ingredients: DEET, picaridin, IR3535 or plant-based oil of lemon eucalyptus. Follow
the directions on the package.
Wear long sleeve shirts and long pants and socks while outdoors.
The mosquitoes that spread West Nile virus bite between dusk and dawn. Limit the
amount of time you spend outdoors during these hours.
Get rid of mosquito breeding sites by emptying standing water from flower pots, buckets
and barrels. Change the water in outdoor pet dishes and replace the water in birdbaths
weekly. Empty children's wading pools when they aren't being used.
