GENERAL INFORMATION:
How COVID-19 is spread
(CDC- https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/about/transmission.html)
● Coronavirus (COVID-19) is spread mainly from person to person.
● Between people who are in close contact with one another (within about 6 feet).
● Through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes.
● These droplets can land in the mouth or nose of people nearby and possibly be
inhaled into the lungs
● It may be possible that a person can get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object
that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose, or possibly their
eyes, but this is not thought to be the main way the virus spreads.
Current evidence suggests that novel coronavirus may remain viable for hours to days
on surfaces made from a variety of materials. Cleaning of visibly dirty surfaces
followed by disinfection is a best practice measure for prevention of COVID-19 and
other viral respiratory illnesses in households and community settings.
https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prepare/cleaning-disinfection.html
Can someone spread the virus without being sick?
● People are thought to be most contagious when they are most symptomatic (the
sickest).
● Some spread might be possible before people show symptoms; there have been
reports of this occurring with this new coronavirus, but this is not thought to be the
main way the virus spreads.
● CDC suggests that the incubation period may range from 2-14 days.
Prevention:
Take steps to protect yourself
Clean your hands often
● Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds especially
after you have been in a public place, or after blowing your nose, coughing, or
sneezing.

● If soap and water are not readily available, use a hand sanitizer that contains at
least 60% alcohol. Cover all surfaces of your hands and rub them together until
they feel dry.
● Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hand
Avoid close contact
● Avoid close contact with people who are sick
● Put distance between yourself and other people if COVID-19 is spreading in your
community. This is especially important for people who are at higher risk of
getting very sick.
Take steps to protect others
Stay home if you are sick, except to get medical care. Learn what to do if you are
sick.
Cover coughs and sneezes
● Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze or use the
inside of your elbow.
● Throw used tissues in the trash.
● Immediately wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If
soap and water are not readily available, clean your hands with a hand sanitizer
that contains at least 60% alcohol.
Wear a facemask if you are sick
● If you are sick: You should wear a facemask when you are around other people
(e.g., sharing a room or vehicle) and before you enter a healthcare provider’s
office. If you are not able to wear a facemask (for example, because it causes
trouble breathing), then you should do your best to cover your coughs and
sneezes, and people who are caring for you should wear a facemask if they enter
your room. Learn what to do if you are sick.
● If you are NOT sick: You do not need to wear a facemask unless you are caring
for someone who is sick (and they are not able to wear a facemask). Facemasks
may be in short supply and they should be saved for caregivers.
Clean and disinfect

develop a fever and symptoms, such as cough or difficulty breathing, call your
healthcare provider for medical advice.
● Stay home except to get medical care
● Separate yourself from other people in your home (home isolation)
● Cover your coughs and sneezes
● Clean your hands often
● Avoid sharing personal items
● Emergency warning signs: get medical attention immediately

other symptoms that are severe or concerning.
Testing Guidelines:
Who should be tested?
CARBON COUNTY, WYOMING
COVID-19 RESOURCE GUIDE
6
Information Prepared for Carbon County COVID19 Incident Management Team Current as of: 3/25/2020
Not everyone needs to be tested for COVID-19. Here is some information that might
help in making decisions about seeking care or testing.
● Most people have a mild illness and are able to recover at home.
● There is no treatment specifically approved for this virus.
● Testing results may be helpful to inform decision-making about who you come in
contact with.
CDC has guidance for who should be tested, but decisions about testing are at the
discretion of state and local health departments and/or individual clinicians.
● Clinicians should work with their state and local health departments to
coordinate testing through public health laboratories, or work with clinical or
commercial laboratories.
How to get tested- swab sent to Wyoming Department of Health Lab
If you have symptoms of COVID-19 (cough, fever, and difficulty breathing) call a
medical provider so they can screen you first and determine next steps. Testing supplies
are limited; therefore, it is important for medical professionals to screen patients first.
What to expect:
1. CALL MEDICAL PROVIDER FIRST: Screening about symptoms and where
you have traveled, or possible exposures
2. Possible flu or strep testing
3. Next steps determined by medical professional if you need COVID-19 testing,
and meet CDC guidelines
Where to get tested after screening, if told to do so:

Questions about Pregnancy and Coronavirus Disease 2019
Pregnant women
Q: What is the risk to pregnant women of getting COVID-19? Is it easier for
pregnant women to become ill with the disease? If they become infected, will
they be sicker than other people?
A: We do not currently know if pregnant women have a greater chance of getting
sick from COVID-19 than the general public nor whether they are more likely to
have serious illness as a result. Pregnant women experience changes in their bodies
that may increase their risk of some infections. With viruses from the same family as
COVID-19, and other viral respiratory infections, such as influenza, women have
had a higher risk of developing severe illness. It is always important for pregnant
women to protect themselves from illnesses.
Q: How can pregnant women protect themselves from getting COVID-19?
A. Pregnant women should do the same things as the general public to avoid
infection. You can help stop the spread of COVID-19 by taking these actions:

● Cover your cough (using your elbow is a good technique)
● Avoid people who are sick
● Clean your hands often using soap and water or alcohol-based hand sanitizer
You can find additional information on preventing COVID-19 disease at CDC’s
(Prevention for 2019 Novel Coronavirus).
Q: Can COVID-19 cause problems for a pregnancy?
A: We do not know at this time if COVID-19 would cause problems during
pregnancy or affect the health of the baby after birth.
Transmission during pregnancy or during delivery
Q: Can COVID-19 be passed from a pregnant woman to the fetus or newborn?
A: We still do not know if a pregnant woman with COVID-19 can pass the virus that
causes COVID-19 to her fetus or baby during pregnancy or delivery. No infants born
to mothers with COVID-19 have tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. In these
cases, which are a small number, the virus was not found in samples of amniotic
fluid or breastmilk.
Questions about Infants and Coronavirus Disease 2019
Infants
Q: If a pregnant woman has COVID-19 during pregnancy, will it hurt the
baby?
A: We do not know at this time what if any risk is posed to infants of a pregnant
woman who has COVID-19. There have been a small number of reported problems
with pregnancy or delivery (e.g. preterm birth) in babies born to mothers who tested
positive for COVID-19 during their pregnancy. However, it is not clear that these
outcomes were related to maternal infection.
Interim Guidance on Breastfeeding for a Mother Confirmed or Under
Investigation for COVID-19
(https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/specific-groups/pregnancy-guidance-breastfeeding.html)
CARBON COUNTY, WYOMING
COVID-19 RESOURCE GUIDE
9
Information Prepared for Carbon County COVID19 Incident Management Team Current as of: 3/25/2020
● This interim guidance is intended for women who are confirmed to have
COVID-19 or are persons-under-investigation (PUI) for COVID-19 and are
currently breastfeeding. This interim guidance is based on what is currently
known about COVID-19 and the transmission of other viral respiratory
infections. CDC will update this interim guidance as needed as additional
information becomes available.
● For breastfeeding guidance in the immediate postpartum setting, refer to:
Interim Considerations for Infection Prevention and Control of 2019
Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Inpatient Obstetric Healthcare
Settings.
Transmission of COVID-19 through breast milk
● Much is unknown about how COVID-19 is spread. Person-to-person spread is
thought to occur mainly via respiratory droplets produced when an infected
person coughs or sneezes, similar to how influenza (flu) and other respiratory
pathogens spread. In limited studies on women with COVID-19 and another
coronavirus infection, Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-CoV), the
virus has not been detected in breast milk; however we do not know whether
mothers with COVID-19 can transmit the virus via breast milk.
CDC breastfeeding guidance for other infectious illnesses
● Breast milk provides protection against many illnesses. There are rare
exceptions when breastfeeding or feeding expressed breast milk is not
recommended. CDC has no specific guidance for breastfeeding during
infection with similar viruses like SARS-CoV or Middle Eastern Respiratory
Syndrome (MERS-CoV).
Outside of the immediate postpartum setting, CDC recommends that a mother with flu
continue breastfeeding or feeding expressed breast milk to her infant while taking
precautions to avoid spreading the virus to her infant.
Guidance on breastfeeding for mothers with confirmed COVID-19 or under investigation for
COVID-19
● Breast milk is the best source of nutrition for most infants. However, much is
unknown about COVID-19. Whether and how to start or continue
breastfeeding should be determined by the mother in coordination with her
family and healthcare providers. A mother with confirmed COVID-19 or who

is a symptomatic PUI should take all possible precautions to avoid spreading
the virus to her infant, including washing her hands before touching the infant
and wearing a face mask, if possible, while feeding at the breast. If
expressing breast milk with a manual or electric breast pump, the mother
should wash her hands before touching any pump or bottle parts and follow
recommendations for proper pump cleaning after each use. If possible,
consider having someone who is well feed the expressed breast milk to the
infant.

Questions about Children and Coronavirus Disease 2019
CHILDREN (https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/specific-
groups/children-faq.html)
Q: What is the risk of my child becoming sick with COVID-19?
A: Based on available evidence, children do not appear to be at higher risk for
COVID-19 than adults. While some children and infants have been sick with
COVID-19, adults make up most of the known cases to date. You can learn more
about who is most at risk for health problems if they have COVID-19 infection on
CDC’s current Risk Assessment page.
Q: How can I protect my child from COVID-19 infection?
You can encourage your child to help stop the spread of COVID-19 by teaching
them to do the same things everyone should do to stay healthy.
● Clean hands often using soap and water or alcohol-based hand sanitizer
● Avoid people who are sick (coughing and sneezing)
● Clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces daily in household common areas
(e.g. tables, hard-backed chairs, doorknobs, light switches, remotes, handles,
desks, toilets, sinks)

it’s important to keep top-of-mind and remind customers your business is still
there. The messaging can involve reminding the public of your (presumably
positive) food safety and training record and reinforcing the measures the kitchen
is taking to prevent the spread of disease, OR delivery/curbside service .
