In thirty years of activities and more, as one of the

Gruppo Luci companies, Gesteco Spa has reached a

leading position in the world of research and practical

environmental solutions.

It consists of three Divisions that share design criteria

and methodologies. They also have in common some

fundamental values of The Group as regards

seriousness, competence, reliability and interest in

innovation to look for new techniques and materials.

Through the Division dealing with environment,

Gesteco builds and manages plants for the treatment

and disposal of dangerous and non-dangerous

waste. Furthermore, it has specialized in reclamation

techniques for large polluted areas, using avant-garde

tools and equipment.

The Division handling aggregates and pre-conditioned

elements is involved in extraction activities, aggregates

production, earth moving and demolition works.

Thanks to the Division manufacturing prefabricated

elements, Gesteco is also specialized in industrial

pre-fabrication activities.

Throughout the years, the strong point of the Group

has become innovation and research. For this

reason, the company is very proud of its department

consisting of analysis and research laboratories

acknowledged by the Ministry of Universities, Scientific

and Technological Research.

Cooperation between the various Divisions, together

with the sharing of methodologies, has allowed

Gesteco to become known all over the world.

Gesteco may offer the most adequate solutions, respectful

of the environment, for any recovery, treatment and waste

disposal requirement. The company owns the following

Moreover, Gesteco organizes treatment campaigns on the

spot, in order to guarantee a further proper disposal and /

or recovery of some waste with characteristics preventing

digestion and / or recovery, due to contaminants or peculiar

physical conditions.

The treatment takes place to send waste:

a) to a recovery plant;

b) to adequate disposal plants.

For these treatment campaigns, the company uses

MOVABLE PLANTS authorized to operate over the whole

national territory:

• Movable equipment Mashmaster 1300 MP - Doppstadt;

• Movable equipment Maulwurf DM 215 - Doppstadt;

• Movable screening equipment SM 518 P - Doppstadt.

The company’s movable equipment is designed to perform

the followings treatment processes:

• homogenization;

• consolidation;

• agglomeration of dusty waste;

• inertization;

• screening and volume reduction through granulometric

separation of the material.

Besides, the company may supply

equipment to be directly set up on site,

where waste production actually takes

place. Gesteco also operates on the

entire national territory using authorized

movable equipment.

More specifically, the movable

crusher KOMATSU BR380JG-1E0

is a newly-designed piece of

equipment, simple to use. It has

a remarkable power and crushing

capacity (from 100 to 240 t/h

according to required size).

It is suitable to operate on material

coming from demolition works,

on rocks, slag and foundry waste,

as it crushes aggregates and

separates metals.

The crusher itself is equipped with

a dust abatement system made of

special water sprayers fed by a

pump.

This technique, used for years on

this type of equipment, allows the

elimination of dust in the area.

The equipment can operate in a

flexible way, by carrying out crushing,

screening and metal separation as

single processes or in a combined

way.

This peculiarity allows the crusher

to be included also within the

framework of complex processes.

The plant has the necessary

authorizations to perform campaigns

for aggregates recovery all over the

national territory.

Reclamation of Polluted Site

As regards reclamation works in contaminated areas, Gesteco follows the whole

procedure foreseen by the many laws in this respect:

• environmental characterization of areas by

means of direct chemical, physical and geological

investigations (laboratory and field analyses, use of

the best available technologies, eco-toxicological

characterization and bio-monitoring);

• programming of actions concerning safety and

reclamation on site, also through the application

of risk analysis procedures and environmental

construction of models, as well as simulations in

laboratories and tests on site.

More specifically, due to years of

experience, the Gesteco Division dealing

with the environment has developed

specific competences regarding the

drafting and execution of environmental

investigation programs.

Gesteco carries out preliminary environmental

investigations to check for possible presence

and concentration of polluting substances in

environmental matrixes of sites that might be

contaminated. The procedure foresees:

• collection and analysis of existing

and available data regarding

geomorphological and environmental

characteristics of the site examined;

• definition of the site’s geological and

hydrogeological context;

• collection and evaluation of information

on activities taking place on site and

production cycles;

• identification of polluting substances

related to activities taking place on

site and predictable location of such

substances inside the site;

• identification of potential pollution

targets;

• identification of pollutants’ migration

pathways.

All these results are then gathered into the

characterization plan edited in view of the

preliminary project and subsequent final

reclamation project.

Demolition Works

Thanks to the dynamism of an efficient

business structure, Gesteco operates in all

branches of controlled demolitions:

• demolitions of civil and industrial

facilities;

• demolitions of metallic structures;

• special demolitions;

• demolitions with the help of explosives.

Adequately trained technicians and

operators guarantee the activities’

results in any situation, with efficient

and innovative actions, in order to solve

environmental problems of whatever

type, whether in public or private areas,

in industries or civil premises.

These are complex solutions, designed

to last for a long time.

Analysis Laboratories

Laboratories perform analyses and offer advice. They are involved in studies and

applied research, with a particular reference to environmental problems.

Gesteco has worked for a long time on this quality concept to develop services relying

on:

• a team of highly qualified professionals, with years of experience in the field of the

environment;

• highly sophisticated laboratory equipment suitable for the analytical

methodologies required or recommended by national and regional laws or by national

and / or international organizations, such as CNR-IRSA, UNI, Unichim, Niosh, ASTM,

ISO, EPA and APHA;

• exhaustive expertise, constantly updated and strictness of the operational

analytical methodology.

Laboratories have the following qualifications:

• registration at the Ministry of Education, University and Research (Code of

Registration in the Research National Registry n. 53792ZKE);

• accreditation ACCREDIA (accreditation of the laboratory as of norm UNI EN ISO/

IEC 17025, delivered by ACCREDIA with Certificate number 0583, and regarding

the technical competence of test laboratories and referring exclusively to accredited

tests.

The list of these tests and relative analytical methods used are

available on the site www.gesteco.it (linked to the ACCREDIA site).

More specifically, laboratories can perform analytic research on more than 250 different parameters, offering services in the following main fields:

• primary waters, sources, wells, water tables, water ducts and process

waters;

• surface river and lake waters;

• sewage waters coming from civil and industrial facilities;

• water intended for human consumption;

• solid waste deriving from industrial processes;

• solid waste deriving from civil and industrial treatments;

• liquid waste;

• excavated earth and rocks intended for re-use;

• reclamation soils.

Analytic Research

Investigations in work environments permit verification of their salubrity. The

activity usually considers two steps: collection and sampling first, followed by

actual analysis.

Gesteco laboratories have a flexible structure that may operate efficiently in

highly specialist contexts, as on a wider scale.

It is well known that noise pollution effects play an

even more important role in the environment as a

whole and as a risk factor in work places.

In the last few years, norms have been evolving

to establish specific requisites for private

operators, as well as public organizations. In

order to comply with these norms, it is necessary

to survey and measure noise impacts.

Gesteco evaluates noise impacts using forecast

models. These studies become efficient tools to

determine unforeseen negative aspects, introduce

adequate corrections and reach final

design solutions. Activities are carried out

with competent technicians specialized in

environmental acoustics.

NoisePollution

The laboratories’ staff activities cover a wide range of services for the control of emissions in the atmosphere and air quality. The main ones are the following:

• sampling and emissions analyses in industrial premises and

handicraft facilities, from static sources, for the verification of

compliance with emission limits;

• self-control analyses for the verification of industrial processes;

• verification of functionality and efficiency of systems abating

pollutants in emissions;

• environmental monitoring in temporary or permanent sites for

the verification of the environment qualitative state (campaigns to

measure conditions before starting works, during works execution

and afterwards) and for an evaluation of pollutants’ possible fall-

outs.

Environmental Due Diligence

Due Diligence is a process aimed at investigating and ensuring the

wholesomeness of a given site in the environmental context, with

particular attention to the eventual acknowledgment of environmental

liabilities.

It can be said that the main purpose of the Environmental Due Diligence

is therefore to ascertain, through the historical reconstruction of the

activities carried out on site and a targeted and analytical collection of

information, whether there are conditions of risk or criticality if the

environmental impacts present or previous events in a specific site.

Thanks to the many years of experience in the sector, the efficiency of the

internal analysis laboratories and the specialization of the Gesteco team,

the Environment Division is one of the few companies specialized in the

execution of complete Environmental Due Diligence.

Gesteco intervention protocol:

• on-site environmental audits, until the necessary data are fully

retrieved;

• analysis of the environmental aspects involved – climatic,

geological and hydrogeological;

• finding and checking the conformity of the authorization

documentation;

• overall analysis of compliance with environmental legislation;

• identification of environmental liabilities;

• final report to the client, with an estimate of the related costs

resulting from the liabilities found.

Thanks to a consolidated credibility at

the local and national levels, Gesteco has

been called upon to take an active part

in the project of INAIL Regional Direction

of Friuli Venezia Giulia called “OCJO”. This

program foresees information sessions

in schools and companies, to have safety

become a major factor as regards the

quality of work and life-style.

So far, the program has involved more

than 22.000 people (professionals,

workers in public and private companies,

high school and university students).

Training courses include theoretical

and practical activities, with experienced

teachers. They take place in the clients’

premises or in business centers

of Gruppo Luci. Gesteco organizes

financed training programs by supporting

companies throughout the whole

procedure up to reporting.

The company performs its activities, such

as process analyses, determination

of critical aspects and design, together

with the client. To continuously improve

production facilities, Gesteco supports

companies in the implementation of

Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001)

and Environmental Management

Training & Safety

Safety in work places is a basic and absolute requisite

in any work environment. In all these years, Gesteco has

developed the necessary capacities to become capable

of having production demands in facilities or sites wich

have come to terms with technical norms. The idea is

to have the concept of safety become an added value,

useful to the overall economic result and quality of the

process itself.

2 Aggregates and Preconditioned Elements Division

Gesteco works in the field of extraction, processing

and sale of aggregates needed in the building

industry. After an accurate selection, aggregates

coming from quarries, excavation works and

restoration works of water streams go through a

washing and crushing process. The company offers

a complete range of materials (with CE certificates),

now completed with the production of mortars

manufactured in ùniko sacks.

ùniko Mortars Range

ùniko is the result of the long experience and thorough knowledge of the

aggregates Division. It is a new range of pre-dosed mortars designed

not to alter the environmental eco-biological balance. With respect to

traditional mortars, ùniko mortars are much more lasting and resistant.

They come in practical 25 Kg bags. ùniko products contain cement,

mortar, sand and others aggregates, all strictly dosed previously, to

guarantee the best possible practicality and naturalness.

The range of BIO mortars offered by ùniko covers all types of demands.

They are safer for operators, while walls gain with natural and perfect

salubrity. Mortar gives walls a perfect balance, as it breathes along with

climate changes and proves helpful in any situation.

The Prefabrication Division is specialized in designing and

building new production facilities.

It offers a complete service, on a turnkey basis: Starting from

feasibility studies, and all the way to design and rendering,

technicians always cooperate directly with clients. They have

their professional capacities made available to customers, for

a unique result from the point of view of quality.

3 Prefabrication Division

The Prefabrication Division offers a complete service,

from the project up to the actual building of new spaces,

to ensure high-quality projects. All the raw materials and

components used in the production process are tested

and certified in compliance with CE norms.

Gesteco intends to promote a new concept in the world

of buildings designed as production premises and work

places. This trend is already present on an international

scale, and the Prefabrication Division is facing the

challenge. It re-uses essential components of old

prefabricated elements, to interpret them in a new way.
