Presentation Notes
ONC has been facilitating the development of a nationwide health information highway using a phased approach. In its first year, the NHIN established four consortia to design and evaluate standards-based prototype architectures for the NHIN. The Prototype Architectures were followed by Trial Implementations of the NHIN – the current phase we are just concluding. The Trial Implementations focused on building a core set of services and capabilities and testing and demonstrating these capabilities through a collaborative process with the NHIN Trial Implementations participants. We demonstrated an initial set of capabilities to the AHIC in September 2008, and we are very pleased to share with you our work over the past year at this Public Forum. The Trial Implementations provide hands-on experience developing, testing and demonstrating a set of core services and capabilities that form the building blocks of the production NHIN, and this effort exercised development of capabilities to support seven AHIC Priority Use Cases. This Forum is intended to showcase the results of the NHIN Cooperative in building these capabilities. By attending the demonstrations and presentations today and tomorrow, you will be able to learn about this foundational work and see it in action. We are energized by this progress, and we are eager to share this energy with you.
