Why use facebook? 5. (not so brief) History of FacebookFacebook born. Harvard only. Profile = directory (name, contact info, picture,2004interests). Work-intensive (had to visit friends profiles to see updates).Facebook available to professionals, students from other colleges, even2005high school students. News Feed added, which highlighted friend information (most recent and 2006most relevant content) on your own homepage.Term social graph was coined to describe how Facebook maps out 2007 peoples connections (remember that these connections exist in the realworldall Facebook does is map them out). 2008 Facebook redesign made Wall the central focus, a big step in the direction ofhelping people share immediate experiences with one another: a thought, astatus, a photo, a note, a feeling. Companies, government entities, organizations, etc. are encouraged to join Facebook. 2009 The old adage about shift happens? Facebook underwent another redesignin March 2009. Layout and emphasis were streamed. Publicfigure/celebrity/organizational profiles began to look, act, and display contentmore like personal ones. 2010Lists allow a Google+-y approach to organizing your connections and information flow. Timeline. According to Zuckerberg, Timeline will be "all your stories, all 2011your apps, a new way to express who you areas time goes by, it will automatically help users by saving the important items and shrinking the lesser ones (http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/f8-facebook-mark-zuckerberg-announces- timeline-feature-open/story?id=14582916)Future?
