End of School Year Letter to the Editor

June 22, 2018 End of School Year Letter to the Editor Dear Friends in Catholic Education, As another school year comes to an end, I would like to take

this opportunity to acknowledge the dedication and ongoing efforts of our students and staff at the Northeastern Catholic District School. Over these past ten months, we have achieved many great things together. We have worked to solve important problems; we have been reflective and creative thinkers; we have made many efforts to contribute to our communities in meaningful ways; we have grown in our understanding of how to be responsible citizens; and we have celebrated our Catholic faith through word, prayer, and action. Each day provided us with the opportunity to learn more about ourselves, each other, and the world in which we live. We have been living examples of how Catholic Education makes the difference.

On behalf of the Board of Trustees and the entire NCDSB community, I extend our sincere best wishes for an enjoyable and restful summer vacation. We look forward to seeing each other again on the first day of school, September 5, 2018.

Please find attached the latest Good News story from the Northeastern Catholic District School Board:

O’Gorman High School students visited Toronto to help those less fortunate and struggling to survive on the streets. This project is through MCC - Mennonite Central Committee and called TOOLS - Toronto Ontario Opportunity for Learning and Serving.

This discipleship adventure will ask you to consider Kingdom truths as you serve, and reflect on issues of poverty and homelessness. You will encounter Jesus in the people living in the margins of Toronto, and rub shoulders with those who serve and walk with them.

Please see the below story of one of our Catholic schools giving back to their community and demonstrating the true meaning of “Thanksgiving”.

Students at St. Anne Catholic School took up the “Fill-the-Bucket” Thanksgiving challenge and did a fantastic job of filling the front end loader full of non perishable food items for the local foodbank and women’s shelter. The school collected a whopping total of 2,095 items, breaking every record for a food drive the school has ever held. All students in the school participated in collecting and loading the tractor, learning first hand what it means to give to others, and how they can make a difference in their community. Students will be taking a field trip to the foodbank next week to learn first hand about its role and function in our community. Within the school, Mrs. Lambert’s JK-2 class led the drive with over 500 items collected.

NCDSB is proud of you and your student’s efforts. Happy Thanksgiving to all!

NEWS RELEASE NCDSB Director of Education Retiring June 30 June 28, 2017: Glenn Sheculski, Director of Education for the Northeastern Catholic District School Board is retiring this June 30, after working in Catholic education for 33 years. Mr. Sheculski has been with the Northeastern Catholic District School Board for a total of 29 years as a Teacher, School and Program Principal, and finally Director of Education, beginning in July of 2009. He spent two years at the beginning of his career teaching for the Fort McMurray Roman Catholic Separate School District and two years as a Superintendent of Education at Waterloo Catholic District School Board.
