POLICY & ADVOCACY: AN INTRODUCTION TO THE SPG
Policy & Advocacy Within the NCC Critical that the NCC address policy change
It’s how coalitions can make a lasting impact Lots of challenges…
Many policy options relate to the NCC’s mission NCC members who participate in policy must:
Agree on a winnable objective Have the right expertise and passion Be motivated to lead and work with coalition partners
We all have limited time and resources
The Solution?
Special Policy Groups (SPGs) Specific in nature Address policies relevant at the time and as
they emerge Draw from expertise in the NCC Dissolve when objective has been met
The Policy & Advocacy Committee Proposes to…
Dissolve as a standing committee but keep policy change as an NCC goal
Use SPGs for specific policy objectives In 2012, create and Adolescent
Confidentiality SPG Purpose is to focus exclusively on
promoting confidentiality for adolescents through policy change
Benefits
Focused: less time spent prioritizing and debating the wide range of options
Directly supports NCC’s mission and goals Will pull together those who are motivated
to coordinate, support each other, and pool resources and expertise to affect change
Will meet tomorrow to create a work plan for 2012
We need your help!
