Co-owner Carl Broussard said he was excited to finally have people eating at their ta- bles. The restaurant site sat va- cant for years before the com- pany signed a sublease in July. “It feels fantastic,” he said. “We had a good test run, and we still have some kinks to work out. But we will have them worked out hopefully by this weekend.” Dozens of families and couples packed the tables and bars both inside and outside the restaurant for the three hours it was open. The out- door bar served up beer and wine as the sun set over the deck. The indoor bar offered a wide variety of drinks and football on the televisions. The Broussard brothers and their staff offered up a sam- pling of the full menu that in- cluded appetizers of crab dip with fried tortellini, boudin balls and fried onions. Entrée options included shrimp and grits, shrimp po-boys, catfish and more. For dessert guests were offered deep-fried sweet potato bread pudding with pecan praline sauce. Broussard’s employee Cin- dy Hibbert helped design the new décor of the restaurant. Sunday she sat amongst her handy work chowing down on appetizers with friends. She said when they first started the remodel they were faced with quite a challenge. Part of the ceiling was falling down, the bar chairs were in need of TLC and the floors were black. “Cosmetic-wise it was a lot. That was what I saw. But there was a lot more with the plumbing and the stoves and the refrigera- tors,”she said. So the team rolled up their sleeves and got to work. She said the wait staff even pitched in with cleaning and painting. “These guys busted butt. It is amazing because we had a small team,” she said. The décor, which consists of wood and metal finish- es with pops of bright beach house colors, was part of her handwork. “We were trying to keep it Cajun yet beachy,” she said. “Carl wants it to be ‘the beach meets the bayou,’so try- ing to keep all those elements in play without getting too beachy. I think we did a good job.” Her friends agreed as they munched on appetizers. “I like the way it looks. I love Cajun food,” Iris Rence said. “I have had Broussard’s food before and I am looking forward to this place making a great name for itself here in Navarre.” Local Marlene Hulten agreed. “As a community we are just glad that we have a nice restaurant finally back in town,” she said. “It has been vacant too long and we wish them the best.” Broussard said they are still working out the logistics of when the restaurant will be open for certain parts of the year, but he said a tentative open date for dinner service only will be Friday. Broussard’s Bayou Grill and Cajun Specialty Meats opened their doors Sunday night on Navarre Beach for an invite-only preview of the soon-to-be open eatery.

Co-owner Carl Broussard said he was excited to fi nally have people eating at their ta-bles. The restaurant site sat va-cant for years before the com-pany signed a sublease in July.

“It feels fantastic,” he said. “We had a good test run, and we still have some kinks to work out. But we will have them worked out hopefully by this weekend.”

Broussard’s employee Cin-dy Hibbert helped design the new décor of the restaurant.

Sunday she sat amongst her handy work chowing down on appetizers with friends.

She said when they fi rst started the remodel they were faced with quite a challenge. Part of the ceiling was falling down, the bar chairs were in need of TLC and the fl oors were black.
