The natural gas network

Natural gas will soon be available to homes and businesses in Listowel Town, bringing all of the benefits of natural gas which over 680,000 domestic and commercial customers around the country currently enjoy. For central heating and cooking, natural gas provides a continuous, clean and controllable supply of instant energy, at a very competitive price.

Gas Networks Ireland delivers natural gas across 20 counties through the pipeline network and does this on behalf of all gas suppliers. We are also responsible for connecting all natural gas customers to the network.

The Gas to Listowel project was approved by the Commission for Regulation of Utilities (CRU) in February 2016. Following this, Gas Networks Ireland contracted Kerry Ingredients in Listowel as a large anchor load customer which enabled the project to proceed to design and construction. The construction of a local distribution gas network in Listowel Town will present homes and businesses in the town with the opportunity to connect to the natural gas network and avail of significant energy savings.

Construction works commenced on the Feeder Main route during Summer 2017, while works in Listowel Town will commence in early 2018.

The construction of the local gas distribution network in Listowel Town, comprising approximately 9kms of gas pipelines, will follow work on the Feeder Main and is scheduled to begin in early 2018. Delivered by our highly-experienced construction team, the Gas to Listowel project will facilitate both domestic and commercial connections to customers along the route and within Listowel Town. Local gas distribution networks will be constructed in Ballyhahill and Moyvane, and gas will be available to customers in these areas later in 2018.

The Gas to Listowel project involves the construction of a 41km Feeder Main natural gas pipeline from Barrigone, Co. Limerick, passing through Ballyhahill, Co. Limerick and Moyvane, Co. Kerry to Listowel Town. The route is shown on the map below.
