Maintaining Membership

• Maintain a cumulative grade average of 92 or above throughout the academic year.

• Conduct grades must be an “S” or “E”. • Perform 22 service hours from June 2014

through May 2015. Eleven hours MUST be turned in before Christmas holidays (12/19/14)

• Continue to exhibit the qualities of excellence which made you eligible for membership in the National Junior Honor Society.

Service & Fundraising Projects

• Members participate in one or more service projects which are helpful to ourselves and others–Habitat for Humanity – Penny Drive

–Food Drives

–Blue Santa

• Safety Town – forms available tonight!• Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts• Church or mission work• SPCA • Community events

Documentation of Service Hours

• Forms signed by adult supervising the activity.

• NJHS box in the Guidance Office to deposit completed service forms.

• Service forms are located in the Guidance Office

• Copies of certificates are also accepted.

Past Projects• Assisting teachers to prepare their rooms before

the beginning of the school year, • Directing students and parents at the 7th grade

Orientation and again at Open House, • Collecting canned goods for local food pantries, • Participating in the city and county cleanup

days, • Collecting money for Walk to Habitat’s Penny

Drive and Love for Somalia • Helping with elementary school festivals.

Meetings

• Once every six weeks

• 8:00 a.m. in the Forum on Friday

• First meeting is Friday, May 23, 2014.

• Attendance is required; not attending 2 or more meetings could result in dismissal

Dismissals• Grade Point Average

– maintain your cumulative grade point average of 92 or above• Conduct

– conduct must be “Satisfactory” or “Excellent” in each of your classes/school each six-weeks grading period

• Service Hours– 22 hours of service by May 2015. – Try to get 10 hours over the summer– 11 due by December 19, 2014

• Required Activities– Participate in required activities and meetings

• Written Warning– formally placed on “probation”.– one grading period to correct the deficiency

• Formal Dismissal– Failure to meet criteria for two consecutive grading periods

• Any student who is involved in a flagrant violation of school rules or civil laws may be removed by the NJHS sponsors and school administration without a warning period.

NJHS Officers

• Complete officer form and return it to a sponsor by Thursday, May 22, 2014. pick up one tonight!

• Officers’ election will be at the NJHS general meeting at 8:00 a.m. in the Forum on Friday, May 23.

• There will be NO election campaigning.• Officers’ responsibilities:

– general supervision of the affairs of the chapter– attend officers’ meetings prior to general meetings and any

called meetings– conduct the business of NJHS at the general meetings – conduct the chapter’s induction ceremony
