A woman principal of a pri-vate and unaided school herewas arrested on Monday bythe police in connection witha brutal incident of lockingan upper kindergarten(UKG) student inside a dogcage. The incident took placeat Jawaharnagar EnglishMedium School at Kudap-panakkunnu in the city onlast Thursday, when the childwas locked in the kennel as apunishment by a teacheridentified as Deepika fortalking in the class. When the child’s elder sisterstudying in the same schoolcomplained to the principal,she threatened her of direconsequences if she dis-closed it to anyone. The six-year-old child re-vealed the incident when heraunt questioned him after herefused to go to the school.

The agitated parents and lo-cals stormed the school de-manding stern actionagainst the school authori-ties. Activists of variousyouth and students bodiesalso staged protests in frontof the school. The police hada tough time in pacifying thecrowd.The crowd dispersed afterthe police took away theprincipal. Her husband wasalso taken into custody later.The accused teacher was notpresent in the school. Policehave registered a caseagainst her. Parents of other childrenstudying in the school havealso alleged similar inci-dents. One parent said hischild was locked inside a toi-let a couple of years ago afterhe failed to give the tuitionfees. Though a complaintwas lodged then no actionwas taken against the schoolauthorities.
