Welcome to a Place Where Art

Comes to Life

This site is designed to share the work of Nathan Comerford and to at the same time change your perspective on art. More relevant than work in a museum and less pretentious than art is a gallery this site is intended to bring art to life.

Studio Project MarketplaceFramed WorkOn the Road Introduction 1 2 3 4 5 6

Art is my sanity. It keeps such significant company as ox-

ygen, water, and nutrients in that without it I may cease

to exist. My mind sketches a hundred ideas for a hundred

paintings while I venture down a busy thoroughfare, then

tortures me until I pour the oddity of the tilted couple near

the corner bookstore on to a piece of paper. Art urges me

to be a modern day story-teller, gives me the freedom to

fantasize like a child or awestruck lover, collects a his-

tory in a visual journal of socially uncensored truths. It

instructs me to ignore proper behavior, to speak with the

loose lips of an 80 year old woman who no longer cares

who thinks what, and to notice the significance of every

day life. Art hands me gestural trees silhouetted against

canvas skies where the sun squeezes into the earth and

I am sane for another day.

Open the Door and Walk Into a Work of Art

The Studio Project gives you a key to the studio, dibs on a comfy chair, and free reign of sketch-books. You’ll see ideas first, claim a bit of the credit, and give your personal critique. You’ll tag along on location to interesting places, be introduced to the sub-jects, and hear their story. And on opening night you won’t wait in line . . . you won’t even need an invitation.

SketchbookPage through the scattered stacks of sketchbooks overflowing with original drawings. You’ll see big ideas when they were still fresh thoughts and intimate studies.

Nathan’s art uses bright color, large shapes, and dynamic line to catch your attention from across a room; however, it also rewards you for taking the time to take a closer look.

Come Along on an Artistic

Journey

A great idea may be just around the corner or out there somewhere on the road. While framed art is often seen in a still setting creat-ing art is not a stationery process. Nathan’s art is about recording our collective journey both figu-ratively and actually. On the Road gives you a shot-gun seat as we explore following creative ideas. Grab a sketchbook or camera and your sense of adventure, there are people and places we can’t wait to discover.

Traveling expands your experience and there are ideas everywhere you turn. Big ideas are often born out of the juxtaposition of things you see along the way.

The Southern California desert is at first arrestingly stark; however, as you spend more time there you learn to greatly appreciate its subtle beauty. The endless sand, rocky mountains, and enormous sky become a canvas for the ever changing mood of the day.

The Pacific Northwest is an amazing place filled with crisp skies, purpose-ful rivers, and evergreen covered mountains. It is full of hardy people and ex-perienced trucks. In Priest River, Idaho the heaping log rigs pass rapidly by at a sobering pace.

Be An Original

Sketchbook DrawingsThe most economical way to own original art is to purchase sketch-book drawings. Many artist hold their sketchbooks and working drawings close. Nathan allows you in. Some of Nathan’s favorite pieces are straight from his drawing pad. These images retain the energy and immediacy of places along life’s journey. Many times the drawings are the spark of an idea that ultimately takes the shape and scale of larger framed work. The sketches allow you to own something that stands on its own as well as inspires bigger ideas.
